Hair help!

Posting here instead of style and beauty as need a quick answer to try and get this fixed tonight or tomorrow.
Had highlights done, which I liked, it is light but my hair lifted really well apparently. I met with a friend today who took one look and said you need to cover that with a darker colour asap it looks ridiculous ( thanks for that) so question is can I just chuck a box colour over it? She reckons a mid to dark brown. I can’t afford to go back to hairdressers as highlights cost quite a bit so box colour it is.
Any advice from hairdressers or someone who has done this themselves successfully would be greatly appreciated!

Honestly, your jealous friend has made you dought yourself, does she always do this? Please don't give in this time as she will keep on doing this to you.
Strangers have told how lovely you look, friends said it looked nice. Please tell this woman you call a friend that you like it and will be doing nothing with it. Better still share this thread with the spiteful woman. Do not let her insecurities affect your confidence.
I went from jet black to blond, trust me it took ages with the stripping ect. People said it looked lovely, only on said, "well if you like it" I ignored her, over the years I found out she was ignorant about many things.
You need to put this woman straight now, and stop second guessing yourself.

I was a bit overwhelmed by all the positive responses to be honest so it’s really made me think about the motives behind her comments… I haven’t spoken to her since but will tell her she upset me. And if I’m going to get honest responses, it’s here 😬 and I was ready for it too, I wanted exactly that and everyone has been lovely.

Thank you so much. I will tell her, it really knocked my confidence and was ready to colour over it that night but not one person has said yes do that it looks awful, not one! And I knew I’d get honesty here that’s why I posted.
