A light Friday post. What is your go to mug for tea drinking? And do you use a teabag or loose tea with a strainer or teapot?

Mine is this very simple and boring one I have bought in Cornwall almost 15 years ago

Great thread! I'm obsessed with mugs. I could not drink out of yours, it is entirely the wrong shape and the handle is awful (sorry to your mug I'm sure you love her dearly).

I'll upload mine in a bit - it's not to hand. It became an unexpected favourite after I bought it in a craft fair. It has a dark blue inside, which I normally hate (usually needs to be white so I can see it's clean) and has a cat shape on the front. It is lovely and I wish I could get more but I don't know who made it.

AgDulAmach · 19/09/2025 10:51

Sorry I didn't answer your other question. I use tea bags. I like loose leaf in theory but I don't have the wherewithal to manage it. I am much more particular about coffee - I absolutely will not drink instant, it is foul.

AgDulAmach · 19/09/2025 10:53

Oh and my DH doesn't drink tea which is the weirdest thing in the history of things. I was surprised how pleased I was when my teenage DS liked tea - it's so odd being the only tea drinker in the house.

GlastoNinja · 19/09/2025 10:53

Mine needs to be as big as possible, but classy, not like the sports direct ones.

Are you a quick drinker, or are you ok with the bit at the end being a bit cold?

Aspiringcook · 19/09/2025 10:57

@GlastoNinja the sports direct ones are just awful imo, I like a nice ceramic mug, it’s a treat

I was given some M & S coffee bags as part of a food gift hamper, they are really, good and very convenient having no grounds to deal with, but ridiculously expensive at £13.50 for 6!

Sorry tried to put a photo in but it didn't work

Wow that is pricey. I tried bags ages ago and found them rubbish. I have an espresso machine which is a faff but it makes great coffee.

Those awful tiny white hotel cups are an abomination. When I see them I feel sad.

Pfpppl · 19/09/2025 11:05

Fine bone china, a nice thin rim and as big as possible. This is one of my faves.

I don't like cups too thin. The design is fab though.

Mine with Yorkshire tea

The Keep Calm one is for the first cup of the day and the other is for subsequent cups.

Hard agree on the white insides; my SiL gave me a Harry Potter cauldron style mug and although it’s nice and big I can’t use it because it’s black inside and the tea just looks wrong.

Oh I love your second one! Can I ask where it is from please? My very favourite mug was broken recently and I'm on the lookout for a worthy replacement

Never tea. Only coffee.

Mine is not too big and not so small that it isn’t a satisfying cup of tea.

I have a fine china one that I use with loose tea but this cup is for tea bags. I can’t drink black tea (thyroid) so I drink Rooibos and have a million boxes of various herbal teas too.

Is maith liom e!

When I first moved to England from Ireland I found British tea to be too strong - I grew up with Barry's tea which is much milder. But now I find Barry's wishy-washy and Yorkshire is my go-to. I've tried herbal but I can only manage Earl Grey, I find everything else boring.

PegDope · 19/09/2025 11:52

@AgDulAmach Barry’s is my tea soulmate, I wish I could still drink it.

I find the Yogi teas to be the best flavour wise. Everything else just seems insipid. I love Earl Grey too but it’s black tea so I can’t drink it 🥺

IHateEmptyPockets · 19/09/2025 11:54

I have at least three or four different mugs depending on my mood lol. An Agatha Christie one with a Poirot quote on it for work days (I'm a writer), a big bottomed chunky one when I fancy a big cuppa, a tall skinny one for other moods... and probably more I can't think of. I'm a bit of a mug collector.

I shouldn't drink black tea either - I'm constantly anaemic and black tea prevents the absorption of iron, but I just can't give it up.

I have different mugs for different moods too. I love when other people make me tea but I hate when they use the wrong mug. I don't say anything but secretly I'm annoyed!
