A light Friday post. What is your go to mug for tea drinking? And do you use a teabag or loose tea with a strainer or teapot?

I love this thread!

I have my first cup of the day in a giant Costa mug. DH used to work for Costa and I was delighted when he brought this one home for me. Just measured and it actually holds an entire pint of tea 😅

Any cups of tea later on are drunk from the smaller mug which is 400ml ish and came from Morrisons. If I’m at home I use a teapot when not in a hurry, it feels very luxurious and like a proper treat, as my cups of tea at work are usually a bit rushed!

Thanks again everyone for posting your lovely mugs. I now want to purchase a few new ones 😂 I reckon I also need a teapot!?

@Aspiringcook keep an eye on teapot brands when you have tea in cafes, that way you can check for lid stability, drippiness and grip before buying.
Once you get a teapot it’ll take a while for the tea to taste properly nice from it, the tea needs to leave tannins on the inside surfaces to develop the taste well. Don’t scrub your teapot too much inside or you’ll ruin the tannin layer.

Never tea. Only coffee.

But are you the Queen of fucking everything, or the Queen of fucking everything??

Ha! Queen of fucking EVERYTHING, but the first time my brother saw the mug he nearly choked. Says more about him than me, really.

Emphasis is a tool that needs to be used wisely. There's a traditional Irish tune called "Fanny Power" because it was written for, well, Miss Fanny Power, but it could also be taken as a feminist anthem - FANNY power!

Bit late to the (tea) party, but here’s my favourite mug. I bought this mug years ago from M and S, fine bone china. I love its curved shape, how the tea tastes and its mouth feel.

Enjoyed seeing all the mugs and getting a tiny glimpse into everyone’s personalities.

I have at least three or four different mugs depending on my mood lol. An Agatha Christie one with a Poirot quote on it for work days (I'm a writer), a big bottomed chunky one when I fancy a big cuppa, a tall skinny one for other moods... and probably more I can't think of. I'm a bit of a mug collector.

I’d love to see (and own!) the Poirot mug!

I have a selection of these Dunoon mugs, they hold just under .5 litre so I know if I have 4 in the day, I’ve done my 2l.

I haven't found my dream mug - does it exist? ... I'd like a cup which is...

  • Egg shaped (small rim diameter, big round body)
  • The finest bone China (so it cools quickly)
  • very large
  • looks earthenware glazed (not sure this is even possible with fine bone China)

... and as a bonus, I quite like the double handle like @YessicaHaircut 's Costa mug. Or I like a handle-less mug..

This old Cath Kidston one is my favourite, have a mug of Punjana tea every morning.

My favourite at work is a handmade pottery one that reminds me of the sea. But at home it’s usually one of my moomin mugs. They are just the right size for me and I love the variety of cheerful or peaceful designs depending on mood. Love Snufkin!
