Many of these people are desperately seeking asylum…

They could have claimed asylum legally in one of the many countries they've had to cross to get to Calais if that's all they were desperate to do.

I cried my eyes out when I saw a street two away from me covered in union flags and saltires. I'm was so angry, and so sick of people pretending it's some kind of innocent pride and patriotism. I felt it absolutely in the pit of my stomach. We live in an area with a lot of migrants and it absolutely crushes my soul to think about how hostile this all is for them. From people who in same breath wank on about 'British values'. I'm in Glasgow and there's no illusions about who's doing it and what their politics is. It's the same vicious, vacuous right wing people it always is.

I would never let on to anyone that it affected me so deeply as I'm known for being fairly stoic. Maybe it was just one more thing in a long line of shit things that are happening in the world but it really got to me. It affected me more negatively than a migrant living on my street ever has.

@usedtobeaylis sorry the lettuce thing made me laugh. But totally agree. Lots of migrants live in our town. Ironically the ones I know all work. The ones with the flags outside don't. You see them sitting on their fronts smoking and talking shit.

IRL I'd never tell anyone how many crushes I've had over the years, on men who are not my husband.

I'd also never tell anyone that sometimes I feel like walking out of my boring, middle-class life and doing stupid things, maybe robbing a house, taking heroin, something to make me feel alive and awake. Or grabbing an attractive man off the street and having sex with him somewhere.

It's just the idea of these things that has some kind of appeal, the reality would be grim and I would never do any of them.
