Which country will you move to if Reform win next election?

Faced with the prospect of NHS being sold off, ICE-style immigration raids and deportations, emboldened bigots, changes to the school curriculum, public services dessimated, leaving EHCR, I honestly think I'll have no choice but to leave. I don't want to but I couldn't bring DC up in fascist state.

Luckily my DH, DC and I are all dual nationals of an EU country so we have an escape route if needed and this country goes to the dogs.

Where would you go?

@Fleetheart but isn’t that because neither Labour nor the tories can be honest about brexit? We already have the populists in power…

Sick of the hatred being whipped up by fuckers for self gain

Yep and social media is behind most of it. MN included sadly.

Why do people think it’s highly unlikely Reform would win an election?

I just checked the odds and the favourite for next Prime Minister is Nigel Farage. Favourite for most seats in the next GE is Reform.

Bookies aren’t often wrong, and their odds are both shorter than the last time I looked about a month ago.

Even Starmer apparently told his cabinet today Reform are the main opposition

Canopop · 15/09/2025 20:37

This is scaremongering I don’t know anyone in real life who supports reform I really hope it isn’t a thing 😢

Reform are currently polling around 32 - 34% of the electorate. At last year’s election, Labour won a massive majority on 33.7% of the vote, albeit with the assistance of mass anti-Tory tactical voting.

That doesn’t mean that Reform would get a massive majority if there was an election next week, but it would almost certainly become the largest party in the HOC and Farage would earn the right to try to form a government. There isn’t going to be an election until 2029, though, and a lot can change between now & then.

TheFrendo · 15/09/2025 21:11

I want to see illegal immigrants deported (millions?). If that means leaving the ECHR, so be it.

mrlistersgelfbride · 15/09/2025 21:12

I know loads of reform voters, of different ages.
I always say we’ll move to Barcelona as we have friends there, but in reality we’ll probably just stay in this country until it collapses.

Krenonges · 15/09/2025 21:12

WillowDB · 15/09/2025 21:09

Reform will get in quite comfortably. Many of the comments on here are indicative of why that will happen.

Some people are in for a rude awakening.

100% people think it's scaremongering and not going to happen but we're sleepwalking into it. Just like with Brexit, the right makes att the noise and no one to properly oppose them

well come on now every government that gets in gerrymanders to increase their votes, it’s par for the course. It’s not a new thing.

My husbands from Saudi Arabia, so there!

Yikes.

CatchTheWind1920 · 15/09/2025 21:14

Ironically we're trying to come back (I'm British, DH is German). Brexit is making it difficult enough, if reform get in, we'd be staying put...
And would be keeping our fingers crossed the AfD didn't get in next 😬

Fleetheart · 15/09/2025 21:14

kinkytoes · 15/09/2025 21:09

What's Truss got to do with it?

I just dislike the patronising 'fell for it' tone which the left just can't seem to shake.

ALL political parties are full of wronguns. We might as well let the ones that haven't had a turn yet have a spin of the wheel.

Can't get much worse tbh.

Why do people say it can’t get worse? of course it can! we are still the 7th biggest economy in the world. we have a long way we can fall!

Foragingfox · 15/09/2025 21:15

Oh they’ll poll well, how well depends on Labour - Starmer isn’t wrong about that. Opposing, farage has the easier job.

Franpie · 15/09/2025 21:15

Greece. I’ve actually been looking into it before now due to the increases in taxes Labour has been bringing in. But the march on the weekend really made me and my kids think that this country isn’t where we want to be long term any more ☹️

BridgetofKildare · 15/09/2025 21:15

UK passport holders do not need an Irish passport to move to the Republic of Ireland.

But no houses any place people want to live, no NHS, lower state benefits and an anti immigrant, nationalist movement which mirrors Reform. So be careful what you wish for!

Me too. I'm staying the heck where I am!

Or gloating over dual citizenship!

Greece have recently become really strict on not allowing illegal immigrants so you probably won't want to go there

CandidRobin · 15/09/2025 21:17

It's not quite as simple as just moving anywhere. Unless very wealthy, most people need jobs and quite often alot of capital to move to another country.
We live in a democracy, something i am very grateful for even when the choice of the majority differs from mine. Swings and Roundabouts, things will eventually change again.

If people aren't happy, advocate for change. Encourage people to take an interest and become involved in politics. No point complaining over Sunday lunch at the country club/local gastropub.

Turnouts at elections in UK are poor. That needs to change. I have spoiled my ballot when I've felt there was no-one to vote for. Women sacrificed their lives so I could vote, i will never not do that.

We're possibly the only country where national pride is a thing of shame and division. People would rather run their country down instead of trying to work towards common ground. We can all feel proud and privileged to be British whilst not agreeing with each other's political ideologies. The freedom to express those differences without fear of retribution is arguably quintessentially British.

it seems impossible for them to be honest and communicate with the electorate the real effects of Brexit. The new guy in the Greens seems to be telling it like it is. I hope he gets some coverage

I am not so sure that is true any more. I am 68 and I never thought to see 150,000 racists on the streets of London. Tommy Robinson has never made any secret of the fact that he wanted to take Parliament. Right now Farage isn't even the worst possible option. Politics is no longer about ideology in action - you no longer need policies or ability. Trump has proven that. What makes you think that the UK is immune to a creeping menace that is gathering pace across the world.

Foragingfox · 15/09/2025 21:18

Well nearly all of East Germany did vote AfD didn’t it? With the exception of a pocket of Leipzig - Germany does indeed have a significant issue along the same lines.

You can move to Greece if you have money and buy property
