Which country will you move to if Reform win next election?

Faced with the prospect of NHS being sold off, ICE-style immigration raids and deportations, emboldened bigots, changes to the school curriculum, public services dessimated, leaving EHCR, I honestly think I'll have no choice but to leave. I don't want to but I couldn't bring DC up in fascist state.

Luckily my DH, DC and I are all dual nationals of an EU country so we have an escape route if needed and this country goes to the dogs.

Where would you go?

Elon Musk addressing the rally and urging people to fight gave me a turn. He will back Farage with his money.

Hahaha. It didn't do Conor McGregor much good and the judge he backed in Minnesota with offers of a million dollars a vote didn't get in either

I've lived abroad and most people have roots somewhere, a network, a community. if you don’t have those things and you’ve got transferable skills then good luck shopping for a country without a populist politician problem…

I’ll take an average “populist politician problem” any day over an actual Reform government 🙏. We’ve been discussing options for where to move, as unfortunately it does feel like a real risk.

Or gloating over dual citizenship!

I won't mention that I have three citizenships then, shall i?

Viviennemary · 15/09/2025 21:19

I think I'll stay here. There will be more room after the mass exodus of all the protestors and all the Angela Rayners with their three houses each.

Foragingfox · 15/09/2025 21:19

I wonder if Musk is backing Robinson to make reform look more palatable and the whole split between Musk and Farage was manufactured. Some journo should follow the money.

KhakiTiger · 15/09/2025 21:19

If some of these far left so called hateful ‘progressives’ on this thread move away, then that’s a bonus from a Reform win.

SeaAndStars · 15/09/2025 21:19

We hear a lot about Reform's view on immigration. Not so much about the migration that would be caused if they win power.

Foragingfox · 15/09/2025 21:20

What’s average @CandelabraCat Italy, Germany, France?

Theoretically everyone here can move to Ireland because of the common travel area. I am not sure what would happen if everyone actually tried to though.

I can tell you exactly what would happen. The Irish would start protesting…sound familiar?

How many Angela Rayners do you think there are?

ByQuaintAzureWasp · 15/09/2025 21:21

We are too old to emigrate. Wish we'd done it 8 years ago. However, recent experiences have made us realise that moving abroad is not necessarily practical if you become really ill.
I do think we need to come out of ECHR ... its a licence for lawyers to print money in terms of defending asylum seekers who have not been given permission to stay. We can have our own laws on how we treat people that don't prohibit us as much as ECHR.

Musk has had a long relationship with Robinson. And praised him over many years. His incel philosophy suits Musk much more - Farage doesn't have many morals, but I think he has a few too many for Musk.

Ionlymakejokestodistractmyself · 15/09/2025 21:21

Ireland seems to be doing quite well. I wouldn't mind moving there but I'm not sure the DC would be happy. I wonder if English children would be more likely bullied there. So I'll have to stay in England. The area I live is at least very liberal - I don't know anyone personally who would vote Reform.

What's Truss got to do with it?

I just dislike the patronising 'fell for it' tone which the left just can't seem to shake.

ALL political parties are full of wronguns. We might as well let the ones that haven't had a turn yet have a spin of the wheel.

Can't get much worse tbh.

Very surprised to see this sort of attitude. Of course it could get much, much worse.

Krenonges · 15/09/2025 20:52

He also went in front of Congress to say the UK is like North Korea. Underestimate him at your peril

I most certainly don’t underestimate Farage. Quite the opposite, in fact. In my view he is a brilliant communicator and a highly skilled politician. If it were not for him, we would still be in the EU. And I say that as a Remainer who was appalled by the referendum result.

So called by whom?

Cattenberg · 15/09/2025 21:23

I don't have dual citizenship of anywhere, so I'd go to Ireland, at least for a few years. Israel might also be an option due to my Jewish grandparent, but I don't want my DD to be called up for military service.

All of this is assuming that my parents don't need my help in four years' time. If they do, I'll be stuck here until they don't need me anymore.

Why do people think it’s highly unlikely Reform would win an election?

I just checked the odds and the favourite for next Prime Minister is Nigel Farage. Favourite for most seats in the next GE is Reform.

Bookies aren’t often wrong, and their odds are both shorter than the last time I looked about a month ago.

There won't be an election for another three years! A lot can happen in that time.

MyHeartyCoralSnail · 15/09/2025 21:23

oviraptor21 · 15/09/2025 21:13

Yikes.

Oh come on, it won’t be that bad. In the last 7 years alone they have become more progressive and allowed women to drive.

Buddingbudde · 15/09/2025 21:23

Krenonges · 15/09/2025 21:04

Labour are useless. A disappointment. I'm no fan.

But I just don't think Farage genuinely wants to make thus country a better place. He's in it for himself. He'll pimp us out to his US friends

I-agree I don’t think Farage wants to make the UK a better place and Keir does, but he’s so spineless we’re not going to get it. I’m so disappointed in Keir. We need to increase taxes and slash spending to get the economy back on track and he wimped out on the welfare cuts and set the WFA threshold at £35k which is far too high.

Farage will get in because Keir isn’t listening and isn’t communicating.

People don’t want to live next to migrants from countries which think of women as objects to ogle and clean for them. That’s reasonable.

People want an NHS system like they have in Europe which is well funded and people can get treatment in good time. that’s reasonable.

People don’t want to fund endless pensions rises and benefits rises through their taxes. That’s reasonable.

People want an education system that lets quiet, well behaved children get on and learn. That’s reasonable.

These are all massive issues. Keir is showing no sign of listening to what people are saying on any of these matters.

Krenonges · 15/09/2025 21:02

Yes that's true. My DH says everything happens in cycles and right now we're in a very right wing fascist one across the world.

I'm just not used to all this hate and intolerance everywhere.

Maybe I just need to move to a lost corner of Wales with no internet

I live in a lost corner of Wales but I do have Internet 🙂. We are considering Ireland because we can. I am as concerned as you are and I do think a lot of people are underestimating the Reform thing.. Farage is a conman running a private company not a political party that is subject to rules about who is funding them. This painting roundabout bollocks is well planned and local Reform groups are well funded... That TR protest thing in London was horrifying, just the amount of people worried me to death. I too am still reeling from Brexshit and all that's come after it... Like the bigots are out of their boxes and growing. There is also the fact that I feel I've just realised how fucking stupid so many people are and that's blown my mind. I cannot believe so many are taken in by a blabbermouth with a private company and no costed manifesto armed with a list of talking points. Critical thinking is dead and when America sneezes we all catch cold.

Probably Germany (DH is from there and has Dual Nationality) but we own a place in Spain and I speak Spanish so maybe there

HolidayInCambodia25 · 15/09/2025 21:25

I'm English. My ancestors have pretty much been here since the ice sheets rolled back. I'm not going anywhere.

SeaAndStars · 15/09/2025 21:22

I live in Scotland. The ‘progressive’ greens here think women that don’t want trans identifying men in their loos are hateful bigots. Maggie chapman for example is a classic example of a hateful bigot.

If half of mn moves away there could be some houses for sale.
