Which country will you move to if Reform win next election?

Faced with the prospect of NHS being sold off, ICE-style immigration raids and deportations, emboldened bigots, changes to the school curriculum, public services dessimated, leaving EHCR, I honestly think I'll have no choice but to leave. I don't want to but I couldn't bring DC up in fascist state.

Luckily my DH, DC and I are all dual nationals of an EU country so we have an escape route if needed and this country goes to the dogs.

Where would you go?

I'll be staying here in Scotland.

Kibble19 · 15/09/2025 21:03

Why do people think it’s highly unlikely Reform would win an election?

I just checked the odds and the favourite for next Prime Minister is Nigel Farage. Favourite for most seats in the next GE is Reform.

Bookies aren’t often wrong, and their odds are both shorter than the last time I looked about a month ago.

I think it's also a disappointment in me when I see how many British people fall hook line and sinker for Farage and co

Well you lot fell hook line and sinker for Starmer and Co so I think that puts you in a worse light tbh.

We don't yet know what Reform might do.

Labour already proven liars.

Labour are useless. A disappointment. I'm no fan.

But I just don't think Farage genuinely wants to make thus country a better place. He's in it for himself. He'll pimp us out to his US friends

Yes, everyone could theoretically move to Ireland, but I don't think they could work or have recourse to any public funds or services. This would only apply to those with Irish residency - which for us wouod be my DH and our girls, but not myself for first 2 years of living there.

Crikeyalmighty · 15/09/2025 21:04

I don’t have an issue with Labour - agree with many proposals - I have a huge issue with a country dominated by a bunch of sub Masonic club weirdos

Do you mean this because they have very few policies, budgets that dont add up, representatives that are clueless and spin a load of rubbish and are populist? Is that why you don't know? Do you remember Truss? brexit?

Gladysknightgottogetaholdofmyself · 15/09/2025 21:04

Sick of the hatred being whipped up by fuckers for self gain

MyHeartyCoralSnail · 15/09/2025 21:05

LakieLady · 15/09/2025 20:46

France would be my first choice (I have two sets of friends in Charente) but I don't know if that would be possible post-Brexit, especially as I'm a pensioner.

If not, I'm afraid it would be Ireland. I was rather taken with Galway City when I was there a few years ago.

This is peak Mumsnet

First post nailed it as usual 👏

You’ve just summed up Labour perfectly

Foragingfox · 15/09/2025 21:06

Isn’t it sort of the point of democracy that if the vote doesn’t go your way, you wait it out and hope for better next time? Plenty of US based friends talked up moving if Trump won and…none of them have moved. You can get involved and fight for a different outcome next time.

QueenClinomania · 15/09/2025 21:06

Kenya for us.

I wonder if I can start a go fund me and ask bigots to send my family back where they came from.

XanLovesHaribo · 15/09/2025 21:07

Me and my partner are an interracial couple, and we have 2 mixed race kids. Not sure where we can move to that will be better than London, even if Farage is in power.

Ireland would have been an option, but Indians are on the receiving end of a lot of abuse over there right now.

SeaAndStars · 15/09/2025 21:07

We don't yet know what Reform might do.

We can be pretty sure what they'll do on women's rights and blood sports.

Maybe it’s your outlook that’s actually causing you the issue. People tend to create their own jail

Ive literally had my own brother voice support for Tommy Robinson over the weekend. My brother was a fairly neutral, possibly left leaning person a few years ago. Now he spouts crap about sharia law and immigration- it's like he's been radicalised online. It's scary and it's made me fearful

I've lived abroad and most people have roots somewhere, a network, a community. if you don’t have those things and you’ve got transferable skills then good luck shopping for a country without a populist politician problem…

it doesn’t really work though; everything has really been scuppered by Brexit and because there is no real understanding of this and an impatience with this government we will now lurch right and nothing will get sorted

Crikeyalmighty · 15/09/2025 21:08

@MyHeartyCoralSnail it’s not the same PR means they simply don’t have the power as no one wants to work with them

Foragingfox · 15/09/2025 21:08

@Krenonges ah well that is scary - I found out a lovely old family friend was there. Amazed.

RitaFromThePitCanteen · 15/09/2025 21:08

I don't have any other passport except my British one, unfortunately. Roughly a decade ago I was planning on moving to another EU country but Brexit made it too difficult. If Reform gets in I will stay and work towards opposing some of their more insane ideas, particularly the dismantling of the NHS.
If we end up going full 1939-Germany levels of racism and fascism, I will stay and fight. I don't have children though and don't blame anyone with them who would want to leave if it got to that point.

My DS is like this. It really upsets me- he won’t talk about it reasonably at all and he actually hasn’t got any clue about how government works he is just obsessed with the boats

That assumes everyone plating by the rules though. What about Texas redrawing voting districts lines etc? They do these little tricks to try and subvert democracy

We're not dealing with good people here

What's Truss got to do with it?

I just dislike the patronising 'fell for it' tone which the left just can't seem to shake.

ALL political parties are full of wronguns. We might as well let the ones that haven't had a turn yet have a spin of the wheel.

Can't get much worse tbh.

Yes I was thinking Ireland too

Because there are zero issues there

WillowDB · 15/09/2025 21:09

Reform will get in quite comfortably. Many of the comments on here are indicative of why that will happen.

Some people are in for a rude awakening.
