I’ve noticed I’ve got a favourite seat in the living room and it’s accumulated a few of my things on and around it like my handbag, sweets, book, medication (because it’s the only thing that helps me remember to take it) a couple of letters that I opened and haven’t put away yet and a pack of baby wipes.
Dh is watching the game just now and I’ve sat down in my spot and accidentally knocked my medication off the armrest. I turned to dh and said “ do you know what would be handy, a little table next to me so I can put all my bits and bobs on” 🤦🏻‍♀️ my life flashed before my eyes before the words finished leaving my mouth. I’m 41 by the way how has nobody told me about this monumental moment.

I have this amazing side table for all my essentials and the best part is there are two plug sockets and two USB outlets inside which is so handy to plug different things in. I can charge my phone, plug in my mini menopause fan, hobby light, nail lamp and all sorts of other things. And the lid closes to hide my mess!

Other things that make me feel old are my constantly aching joints, wishing I could take early retirement (I'm only 50 and can't afford it!), can't see without my glasses any more even on a night out..... and so many more!

@MuddlingThroughLife , if you’re still reading, where did you get that table from?

So.ebody I hadnr seen for 8 months told me I looked 10 years older!!!! That kind of made me feel old (er?)

How unkind

Curryingfavour · 15/09/2025 17:59

Feeling stiff if I sit down for too long ,but still wanting a nice sit down and a cup of tea .
I have a side table next to a chair in our living room with a drawer I keep a pair of specs in for watching TV , plus tissues and bits and bobs .I only wear comfy shoes ( usually trainers ) comfy clothes and undies .
I am in my 60s

Blipette · 15/09/2025 18:03

I go to bed fine and wake up with a ruined shoulder,

JungAtHeart · 15/09/2025 18:11

Making a noise when I get up if I’ve been sitting down too long … also when I sit down if I’ve been walking for a long time or just on my feet. Always having to have my reading glasses with me. Reluctance to take long haul flights anymore … and fast developing a taste for cruises 😂 letting my grey hair grow out. I’m sick of bleaching it! Thinking about my pension and what my might retirement look like. Being invited to a LOT of 60th birthday parties. Leaving my toxic husband last year. Giving less and less fucks what anyone thinks of me and my life choices. Really enjoying nature! I prefer a walk on the beach to a pub now … Loving my one year old cat and her attitude to life and people 😂

Taking a picture of a label so that o can zoom in to read it. It

Yes!! This and many other things; aching joints, tired, grumpy, low tolerance for idiots/nonsense ( don't mind that one), oh, and buying stuff in bulk when I see it ( tissues; I have favourite tissues now), and being excited about my new vacuum 😀

Lollipop81 · 15/09/2025 18:19

This is hilarious. I’m 44 and have only recenly acquired a favourite spot on the settee which I never equated to getting old until I read this 🤣🤣 great idea about the tray I might invest in one of those 🤣🤣
one thing that definitely makes me feel old is that I was always a party girl well up into my late 30’s when I had children and had to settle down. Now I actually dread a night out and am always glad when it’s over ha ha

Spidey66 · 15/09/2025 18:23

Loads of things!

my knees are playing up. I have OA and while I’m mobile, bending down, getting off the floor (eg in a gym class) are getting tricky.

my reading glasses are often on a string round my neck.

I’ve been treated for cataracts and have also had a hysterectomy.

evenings in front of the telly with some knitting are appealing.

i now hate crowded noisy pubs.

I can’t do hangovers like i used to so drink less.

my memory isn’t what it was.

the worst? Last week I bought a couple of tops from Bon Marche. The shame.

Lincslady53 · 15/09/2025 18:24

The thing that always makes me release I am old is when I meet someone who we knew when they were in their teens/early 20s, and haven't seen for years, and they introduce us the their DCs who are now the age they were when we knew them, teens/ early 20s. Happened twice this year.

Youdontseehow · 15/09/2025 18:25

Turned 60 this year and have developed these new “habits”;

  • afternoon nap
  • big pants instead of g strings and bra-tops instead of bras
  • talking to myself
  • cant watch the news because “it’s all bad”
  • need subtitles on the TV all the time
  • hate going out in the evening - afternoons only unless a special occasion
  • scared to drive in the dark

officially old!!

Lincslady53 · 15/09/2025 18:29

Oh, last week we had 2, 17 year old give a talk about a leadership course we sponsored them to go on, one of the small audience asked if they keep in touch with people they met on the course, and if they have a WhatsApp group. He put us in our place by saying 'No, Snapchat, we don't use Whatsapp'

Pliudev · 15/09/2025 18:30

Losing the cap off my front tooth and having what remained extracted. Now got a big gap until it can be bridged. Wondering if it's even worth an old hag wearing lipstick and learning to smile with my mouth closed.
Suddenly stiff after sitting. All this has happened recently and it's come as a shock.
Even though I probably am old compared to all you young things. Enjoy it while you can.

I go to bed fine and wake up with a ruined shoulder,

Yep! I’m sure I get beaten up overnight!!

I go to bed, absolutely fine, make loads of plans for the next couple of days, bit of painting, shifting stuff around, moving furniture to hoover properly, wash the window… etc.

Next morning, I appear to have been viciously beaten up in the night - bad shoulder, dodgy knees, pain in hips, bad back…etc. I can barely manage the stairs and spend the day doing sweet f.a. on the sofa, moaning and rubbing deep heat into me.

I'm65 but just this year also got a 'little table'😅😅 it has my book, I pad, phone and various bits and pieces, all safely contained, I love it 😅😅

CremeDeSudo · 15/09/2025 18:52

I've just been to a k-pop dance class and was the oldest one there by some stretch 🙈 I'm 43

OhMyMirror · 15/09/2025 18:54

My oldest sons girlfriend has tattoos, that she got legally 😭 that one really got me, he just turned into a man overnight. I'm 39, he is 18.

If I do any of the following:

drink alcohol
eat after 7
caffeine after midday
don’t exercise during the day
too many carbs at dinner

I will be wide awake between 12-4am. This will take me a week to recover from.

There is no slack in the system. I am a precious, wilting flower.

Me, too! You are not alone 🌺

My publisher’s new intern was born in 2004.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 15/09/2025 19:02

I like a bit of slow sewing and making stuff. Threading a needle is now the bane of my life, requiring getting my glasses at just the right distance (I also wear contact lenses), getting the thread just right, with the right amount of spit, and I seem to have lost the feeling in the tips of my fingers for no good reason, so I spend alot of time retrieving said needle from wherever it's dropped, and half the time I can't see it at all. Beading needles are the worst.

And yes, I have needle threaders. The quality is usually so poor I just end up with a piddly bit of wire and nothing to grip to pull the thread through, because it's pulled off in my hand on the return journey.

Honestly my dexterity has deteriorated so much due to age and lack of practise, cos life, I might just take up a different hobby. Potato prints perhaps. Or crayons.

I’m really cross that the supermarket keep moving things.

I went to a social history museum recently. The staff there told me they were having a clear out. They explained that they needed to update the museum for modern visitors and wanted to display more stuff from the 70s. The 70s! Things from a decade I was alive in are now deemed museum worthy.

I went to a museum and they had a Treehouse toy on display, exactly like mine that I still have at home from 80/81 ish. Devastated!

ToadRage · 15/09/2025 19:03

I too have a favourite chair, slippers and a little table covered in all my 'shit'. But what made me feel really old was realising there are adults in the world who are too young to remember 9/11.
What's happening to me? I'm only 38.

I bought sketchers slip ins. I’m 42. In my defence I have two destroyed hips and degenerative disk disease in my spine.

Sorry but these are great, got my first pair at 30, 32 now and still get them ha

I have a green jumper which I accidentally wore with brown cords once and looked exactly like that tree house
