I’ve noticed I’ve got a favourite seat in the living room and it’s accumulated a few of my things on and around it like my handbag, sweets, book, medication (because it’s the only thing that helps me remember to take it) a couple of letters that I opened and haven’t put away yet and a pack of baby wipes.
Dh is watching the game just now and I’ve sat down in my spot and accidentally knocked my medication off the armrest. I turned to dh and said “ do you know what would be handy, a little table next to me so I can put all my bits and bobs on” 🤦🏻‍♀️ my life flashed before my eyes before the words finished leaving my mouth. I’m 41 by the way how has nobody told me about this monumental moment.

I just turned the music down in the car so I could 'see' better 🤣

Emmz1510 · 15/09/2025 13:36

Oh where to start? I’m only 46 but lately I feel like it’s catching up on me.
Grey hairs needing dyed more and more often.
Starting to become long sighted as well as short sighted.
Perimenopause symptoms ramping up- unexplained sweating, vaginal dryness, decreased libido, teenage skin, irregular periods.

I was looking for something under my bed and I thought my knees were going to lock and then break when I struggled to my feet.

It's the worst feeling isn't it?! Hate it! Wish we could feel young and healthy forever!

I stretch my arms forward, and see my mother’s hands.

Bonbon249 · 15/09/2025 14:01

This hit me a few years back when I realised that people born the year I left school would be 40!

lastones · 15/09/2025 14:05

My ex dating a 19 year old (I am 40 and he's 60 next month). We accidentally ran into each other in a social event and I felt absolutely ancient and irrelevant next to her. I know it is very shallow, but just could not help feeling bad about how flipping old and haggard I am.

zingally · 15/09/2025 14:06

I did about an hour and a half's worth of weeding in the garden around Saturday lunchtime. It's over 48 hours later now, and I'm still feeling a bit achy.

I'm almost 41 and my period is almost 2 weeks late (no I'm definitely not pregnant!) This is the first time it's ever been anywhere close to this late. Is this menopause starting? No other obvious symptoms!

InveterateWineDrinker · 15/09/2025 14:09

Two of my primary school DC's classmates have parents turning 40 this month. I can remember what I was doing on the days they were born. I am also older than some of the grandparents.

Northernladdette · 15/09/2025 14:15

You mean you don’t yet have a table full of framed photos? 🤣

Taking a picture of a label so that o can zoom in to read it. It

I have had great eyes my whole life. Now I wear glasses for work and have to either zoom in on my phone or get a child to read out cooking instructions. FML.

You should really just be feeling relieved not to be with a bit of a perve!

I know, isn't there enough in life to worry about without getting upset at full sodding stops! Who decides these things anyway. Perhaps we should start putting it about that a ? at the end of a sentence is too stressful because it pressures people into, you know, actually having to answer a question.

Sorry, rant over😄

I shall continue to use colons, full stops, commas, question marks and paragraphs. So that I'm easily understood . If anyone is offended that is their problem.

Jakers that's just icky forty year age gap. Be glad you're not wiping his bum, finishing his sentences, etc in another 20 years

Dontlletmedownbruce · 15/09/2025 16:05

I was talking to a young colleague about winter coats and the weather changing etc. I said I have a coat that is so warm I only wear it for about a week or two every year and it's so bulky it takes up half the wardrobe... I said it looks ridiculous like I'm wearing a sack but i don't care it's so snug. She replied well when you are older no one cares what you look like anyhow...

Table!!! I wish. We've got nine on the desk in the hall, bought a three shelf book case for another dozen . One massive frame with ten pictures in. It's nuts. 😂

The font size I’ve put on my phone is huge! The young ones at work are in fits of laughter whenever they see it! The volume is up to the max too…

Does any one hate it if there’s too much background noise, or intrusive music? I can’t concentrate (or hear) if there is.

Reading a cataract operation. I’m 64!

justasking111 · 15/09/2025 16:13

My eyes got so bad, very long sighted then dimness. Glaucoma after six operations including new lenses. My eyes are -.5. it's pretty damned good. But tiny writing on packaging still defeats me. OH had new lenses which are trifocal so he reads the small print now.

FirstCuppa · 15/09/2025 16:15

I've actively invested in fleeces this autumn, having flirted with them and appreciated their ease of washing, warmth and durability last year. I don't even care what colour, just whichever is cheapest. My fashion radar is shot I may have torpedo'd it deliberately because I DGAF any more.

I have begun treating the dog like I did when my DC was a toddler. I talk to her while I re-pot plants, burp her after meals, towel her down in the same way, talk to her as if she should know better when she is being a bit cheeky (staring at my lunch dolefully, being grumpy with other dogs on walks, trying to sit in my spot).

Thinking I need to label all of my storage boxes and bags with BIGGER LABELS because I keep opening things I think are duvets and finding an excess of pillows. Honestly had no idea I had 14 extra pillows. Now feel too guilty to throw them away. Which leads me to my final realisation - I hate waste. I've taken on my grandma's waste not want not approach. Now spending an inordinate amount of time coming up with "uses for old pillows"...

Gosh, I wouldn't feel bad about this. I would however feel a bit queasy at him dating someone young enough to be his granddaughter.

This reminds me of my grandmother, who’d say things like “I was talking to this poor old dear on the bus”, even though she was over 80 herself 😄

My grandma was like that! She would talk about the "old ladies" that lived on her street, she had at least ten years on all of them!

MayaPinion · 15/09/2025 16:39

When you try on shoes and nobody asks if you can run fast in them.

blobby10 · 15/09/2025 16:41

This thread is making me chuckle and also feel not quite so bad about feeling so old lately Grin. So thank you everyone!!!
