I’ve noticed I’ve got a favourite seat in the living room and it’s accumulated a few of my things on and around it like my handbag, sweets, book, medication (because it’s the only thing that helps me remember to take it) a couple of letters that I opened and haven’t put away yet and a pack of baby wipes.
Dh is watching the game just now and I’ve sat down in my spot and accidentally knocked my medication off the armrest. I turned to dh and said “ do you know what would be handy, a little table next to me so I can put all my bits and bobs on” 🤦🏻‍♀️ my life flashed before my eyes before the words finished leaving my mouth. I’m 41 by the way how has nobody told me about this monumental moment.

When I go and pick up my prescription in the pharmacy it comes in a plastic carrier bag rather than a tiny paper one!
When I apply mascara and it gets on my upper eye lids because my eye have dropped.
When I look in the mirror and see my face or my body isn't as flexible!
When I realise the 80s were 40 years ago😭

We went out for a lovely meal in August, the food I chose was extremely rich and I felt moderately ill afterwards and had to go and sit outside in the fresh air. I felt slightly queasy and hot. I won't be repeating that in a hurry. One glass of wine involved. Luckily it was a lovely evening to be outside.

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 14/09/2025 17:09

Realising that people who were only just born when I started university are now well into their 20s and having kids.

overstimulatedhermit · 14/09/2025 17:11

Now the shocks wore off a bit about the granny table, it’s clear now that there were signs.

Like getting my daughter to put my details into the shops tablet for my receipt because I was unfamiliar with the layout.

Getting my children’s names mixed up and going through all the names until I got to the right one.

Asking dh what my date of birth is.

Taking a picture of a label so that o can zoom in to read it. It

Why the hell have I never thought about doing that? Instead of pulling my completely useless multifocals onto my forehead. Which probably makes me look so cool. 😂

Beamur · 14/09/2025 17:13

When your baby turns 18

madameimadam · 14/09/2025 17:15

I have a child going to university next week 😭

And Im currently wearing my new glasses. They are varifocals….

MinnieMountain · 14/09/2025 17:18

I’ve got reading glasses somewhere…

Pointing out to a friend that 11yos don’t get exhausted and realising that I can’t remember being 11.

I used to love hiking, now I mainly want to sit and look at a view.

menopausalmare · 14/09/2025 17:19

... because I haven't a clue (or care) to learn about young person slang.

Daleksatemyshed · 14/09/2025 17:20

When someone's at the bus stop before you but when the bus arrives they say after you, I say No you were here first but they insist - shit, they're very polite but they see me as old. In truth they're going food shopping and I'm off to the pub 😁

TheeNotoriousPIG · 14/09/2025 17:26

I began to think that what the Americans amusingly call "fanny packs" were a terribly sensible idea, given the lack of pockets in women's clothing. (My job is not one where I can carry a pretty handbag about).

After a brief panic about, "I'm not old enough for one of those!" I then reminded myself that at least I'm not wearing crocs and socks yet.

squashyhat · 14/09/2025 17:26

Having to get up more than once in the night for a wee. Once is understandable; twice is bloody annoying. And we have a downstairs bathroom Angry

MirrorsGrin
I am so ugly now, compared to how I used to lookConfused And, menopause belly!

I was going to post similarly. It shocks me sometimes when I catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror.

Usernameunavailableagain12 · 14/09/2025 17:32

I got excited when I realised you can order a food shop from Tesco and it will get delivered in 20-30 minutes, I was thrilled. I’m not even old 😂

Seymour5 · 14/09/2025 17:32

When my older child became 50!

MuddlingThroughLife · 14/09/2025 17:35

I have this amazing side table for all my essentials and the best part is there are two plug sockets and two USB outlets inside which is so handy to plug different things in. I can charge my phone, plug in my mini menopause fan, hobby light, nail lamp and all sorts of other things. And the lid closes to hide my mess!

Other things that make me feel old are my constantly aching joints, wishing I could take early retirement (I'm only 50 and can't afford it!), can't see without my glasses any more even on a night out..... and so many more!

FurForksSake · 14/09/2025 17:37

I bought sketchers slip ins. I’m 42. In my defence I have two destroyed hips and degenerative disk disease in my spine.

I signed up for a subscription service this week and had scroll down quite far to find my age range...

There are people working for our company who weren't born when I started there...

You need to start carrying Gaviscon around with you like I do.

So many foods I've eaten happily for years without effect are now "not agreeing with me"

Younger people prop their sunglasses on their heads and look stylish. My reading glasses propped on there just draws attention to all my grey roots...

Mine was realising I have to now take my glasses off to be able to read things close up. I didn't realise that not being able to focus close up happens to pretty much every one with age, I'm scared I might have to get varifocals! I'm 43!

This was mine recently too! I'm 44 🤣

MidnightMusing5 · 14/09/2025 17:44

Stiff joints and looking forward to going to bed 😂

getting excited about discovering anything that makes my household chores easier.

FurForksSake · 14/09/2025 17:45

Spinning the wheel to find your year of birth like your trying to win at roulette.

This! I have to scroll back for ages to find my birth year. I still find it strange anyone's been born in the 2000's

Leaving the Chemist with a carrier bag of prescription medication and having 3 medical appointments in one week.
