I’ve noticed I’ve got a favourite seat in the living room and it’s accumulated a few of my things on and around it like my handbag, sweets, book, medication (because it’s the only thing that helps me remember to take it) a couple of letters that I opened and haven’t put away yet and a pack of baby wipes.
Dh is watching the game just now and I’ve sat down in my spot and accidentally knocked my medication off the armrest. I turned to dh and said “ do you know what would be handy, a little table next to me so I can put all my bits and bobs on” 🤦🏻‍♀️ my life flashed before my eyes before the words finished leaving my mouth. I’m 41 by the way how has nobody told me about this monumental moment.

So.ebody I hadnr seen for 8 months told me I looked 10 years older!!!! That kind of made me feel old (er?)

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 14/09/2025 16:03

I’ll see your stiff joints and favourite chair and raise you slipper-wearing and a sudden inability to sleep beyond 7 am

imfabul0us · 14/09/2025 16:07

I have a similar chair and a little box next to it with medications, skin cream, nail stuff etc. Also, on occasion, I have to hoover the crumbs all around it. 👵

I’m finding it hard now to do the gym class I’ve been doing for about 7 years. I’m looking at yoga and Pilates instead.

happinessischocolate · 14/09/2025 16:09

I’ve had “my” seat in the lounge my whole life 😂 my parents and sister had allocated seats and I had the one no one else wanted, same as at the dinner table.

I have my seat on the sofa and the dc always sit in the same seat, even the dog used to sit in the same seat everyday. I also have a coffee table next to the sofa but my “stuff” is hidden in a wooden box or behind the photo frame.

the only thing currently making me feel particularly old is the hairs on my double chin 👵🏻

one of those handheld vacuums would come in handy for the crumbs 🫢

Mine was realising I have to now take my glasses off to be able to read things close up. I didn't realise that not being able to focus close up happens to pretty much every one with age, I'm scared I might have to get varifocals! I'm 43!

You’ve just reminded me that I need to go pick out my glasses that I’ve been meaning to do since my eye test 4 weeks 😬

When I moved to this house, I used to wave to an old lady who sat in her window up the road from my house. I would see her 2 or 3 times a day as I walked my dog. She always had a table lamp on, day or night, summer or winter.
I moved the furniture round in the lounge a couple of months ago.
The other day, I realised that I now leave a small table lamp on, day or night. No idea why. If DP turns it off, I get cross and turn it back on again.
I am now that old lady from when I moved here, 22 years ago.

Same here. I wear contact lenses to be able to see distances so I now have a pair of reading glasses to correct my already-corrected vision. Optician said it usually happens from age 35 (!) so i guess I should feel quite lucky I haven’t been touting a pair of glasses round my neck on a chain for the past 10 years.

I love a table lamp on night or day too. I must get one - we lost ours when having house renovated

Not knowing instinctively where to tap my card when paying

needing to go to bed by 9pm

not wanting to go out and instead preferring to sit on sofa with a cuppa

turning the radio off when they are “playing garbage”

having an urge to bake loaf cakes

Why have I never thought of doing that? I think it's because I'm so old all my go-to fixes pre-date the Smart phone!

It’s a while ago now, but hearing On The Floor by JLo for the first time at a work party where all the young people in their 20’s were dancing. I remember dancing to the song that is sampled, at University, and realising how long ago it is. 1980 is 45 years ago.
