I’ve noticed I’ve got a favourite seat in the living room and it’s accumulated a few of my things on and around it like my handbag, sweets, book, medication (because it’s the only thing that helps me remember to take it) a couple of letters that I opened and haven’t put away yet and a pack of baby wipes.
Dh is watching the game just now and I’ve sat down in my spot and accidentally knocked my medication off the armrest. I turned to dh and said “ do you know what would be handy, a little table next to me so I can put all my bits and bobs on” 🤦🏻‍♀️ my life flashed before my eyes before the words finished leaving my mouth. I’m 41 by the way how has nobody told me about this monumental moment.

Catching sight of myself in reflection at work I realised I'm a shorter, fatter version of my DAD, but with long hair. Honestly made myself jump 😭

I've never been pretty, but yikes I've aged like milk

I’m sure this isn’t true but it’s made me cry 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I was chatting to an older man on the bus then realised he was 2 years me above at school, bloody depressed me the rest of the day !

Edited

My dad would always shout
'Come on Grandad, put your foot down!' when stuck behind slow drivers. He was still saying it up to the day he died when he was 76 with 8 grandchildren of his own.

DoubtfulCat · 14/09/2025 19:08

The first time was realising I was older than all of the Welsh rugby team (to explain: I started watching rugby when the team were about 10 years older than me. Then I got to an age where they were my peers. Now I’m old enough to be their mum 😬

These days it’s the shortness of my arms, I can’t lean far back enough to see things and have had to start taking my glasses with me to the shops so I can read the shopping list.

And joint pain, OMG. I’m so over that already. Really hoping it stops hurting when I pass into post-menopause, because if I live as long as my nana I’m only halfway through life, and that’s a lot of groans to make on getting out of chairs.

Had to give my year of birth to a lovely young store assistant in H & M and I thought “ god, I’m old”. Then there’s the fact that I’m even referring to her as a lovely young person. 😣
In my job, I sometimes have to ask people’s date of birth, and when they say some date post 2000 I always think they’ve made a mistake.

Talking about H&M, I'm still wearing a dress with Hennes & Mauritz on the label and I'm sure young people wouldn't even recognise that name.

I peed a little in my pants when I got up to feed the cats rather than wee first when this morning. I just can’t seem to hold it in as much I used to. Perhaps in the last few weeks this has changed.

I can’t sit on the floor without getting on all fours and hold on to something to help me up.

Small print is a no no and has Ben for about 6 months

I’m fat and eat ok and swim 3x a week but fat is sitting there. I’ve given up looking in the mirror - I don’t want to my mother staring back at me

I’m 53 fgs

ghostyslovesheets · 14/09/2025 19:11

I’m 55

my joints hurt in the morning
I have a nap sometimes
a night on the town leaves me dead for 72 hours
i I have a favourite cardigan

when the first aid instructor said recently ‘we used to say between the nipples but now we say armpits ‘ (CPR) I snorted as it’s the same place for me if I need CPR and I’m braless

my youngest is learning to drive!

id rather stay in than go out

ive stopped running and now go for long walks

ghostyslovesheets · 14/09/2025 19:12

Oh yes and I do the squinting hold it up to the light thing when trying to cook food!

Oh good for him 😀

I had "a fall" yesterday. Not a bad one, i went flying over the hoover I'd forgotten was behind me. Anyway, 3 hours later I suddenly felt horribly dizzy which I've put down to the fall & my age related inability to instantly recover from these things.
I'm 39.

AntiBullshit · 14/09/2025 19:14

I don’t understand half of what my teen says to me or even what music she listens too, it’s just noise

I'm only 3 or 4 retirements away from being the oldest in my department. I'm not even THAT old..it's terrifying.

I feel like I'm the oldest or second oldest everywhere I go and I'm still only about half way through life. Where are the people older than me?

HPFA · 14/09/2025 19:15

Not really being able to get comfy in bed anymore.

There's always a little ache somewhere or I'm just a little bit too hot. I really, really miss that feeling of snuggling up in bed feeling totally relaxed and cosy.

DoYouReally · 14/09/2025 19:15

I was at my cousin's 21st birthday party in a pub about a month ago.

I found myself thinking....the music's too loud, there should be more seats and thought someone of the outfits on the night were more than a bit skimpy!

I'm only early 40s. I used to love nights like that and wore many the indecently short skirt too. 🫩

PennywisePoundFoolish · 14/09/2025 19:16

I also spent £300 on varifocals. It was 2 pairs but I've lost one. DH and I had the world's most boring argument this weekend as he'd picked my glasses up by accident and was wearing them, whilst I spent hours looking for them. He's accusing me of losing his 🙄

SouthernBel · 14/09/2025 19:08

I’m sure this isn’t true but it’s made me cry 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

During Covid, I tried to do that thing where you train your hair not to need to be washed every day or every other day. I turned into my bald uncles!

BusySittingDown · 14/09/2025 19:16

Oh, a few months ago I saw someone who looked familiar and thought, "wow, that woman looks like a middle aged version of X from school. Obviously it's not X as that woman is oooold." Of course it WAS X! 🙄 X IS middle aged, as am I.

I forget I'm not a teenager anymore. When I look at photos of myself I feel like the character in Freaky Friday when she wakes up as Jamie Lee Curtis's character "I'm like the crypt keeper!" 🤣. Proper jump scare!

I have varifocals but still struggle

Littletreefrog · 14/09/2025 19:17

Went for an eye test recently. I wear glasses for distance. Now apparently I am both long and short sighted at the same time. The very young Optician said 'it's nothing to worry about it's just your age, these things happen as our body starts to wear out". I am 41.

FurForksSake · 14/09/2025 19:17

@PleaseStopEatingMyStuff you fell over, you did not have a fall, you are in your 30s!

Adventurewillresumesoon · 14/09/2025 19:18

An adult man accidentally talking to me in a shop as he thought I was his mum.
Needing my reading glasses that were just for my computer at work all the time, including reading menus and labels.
Bad knees.
Needing to wee in the night.
Today’s was glancing at my hands when driving and realising that they looked old. Stopped at Boots on way home to buy more hand cream!

I was watching Friends in my teens so they were teaching me about adult life and now I'm almost the age of the characters' parents. It's quite weird.

ghostyslovesheets · 14/09/2025 19:19

Oh another one - I love driving- always have but recently night driving has become a bit scary 😟

And I’ve driven some fab fast cars in my life and just purchased an i10

Chinsupmeloves · 14/09/2025 19:19

Feeling happy to be in comfy clothes, having a drink and chilling at home on a sat night as I always used to go out.
