Black people don’t really matter but the loss of Charlie Kirk is a tragedy.

I posted this in response to a short thread on Feminism and Women’s Rights but I want more people to see it. I want to have my say, even if I’m late to the conversation, and even if most people don’t care. I don’t expect many replies but maybe I’ll make some people think about what I’m saying.

I guess none of you are black. It’s the only way you can go out of your way to highlight this man’s ’virtues’. I don’t believe anyone is born bad or is irredeemably bad, I guess that’s my Christian upbringing, but I also don’t understand the deification of this man and the need for many people on this website to paint him in the best possible light. He’s not the first public figure to be shot and killed, even this year. If those deaths were even mentioned on Mumsnet, they certainly weren’t given much attention.

I’d never heard of Charlie Kirk before he was shot and his death had little impact on me. I have serious issues in my own life, people are shot and killed in America every day and there is a lot of suffering going on around the world, a lot of atrocities committed. It didn’t seem to be an incident that affected me in any significant way, even when I discovered his position on transgender ideology. I share essentially the same position on transgender ideology with many people I don’t want to be associated with.

Then I read his comments about black people. I can’t wax lyrical about how Charlie Kirk was ‘decent’ and ‘respectful’. How, ‘Isn’t it nice he gave his political opponents a platform’. And I can’t feel any kind of kinship with people who, knowing what he’s said about black people, still feel compelled to highlight his good qualities.

Let me be clear: I don’t believe he should have been killed. I don’t even support the death penalty in any circumstance, so I can hardly support Charlie Kirk being killed. But I am learning, not for the first time, that Mumsnetters in general, and users of this subforum (FWR) tend to ignore black people and our concerns, until we are useful. Whether that is taking cases to court when much is made of the claimant’s ethnic heritage (why?) or the perennial ‘transgenderism is womanface, it’s offensive like blackface’.

You have no idea and I think it is possible you will never understand just how much slights about my ethnic heritage cut deep. Slights to my womanhood are pretty trivial in comparison. I think this is something white women will never understand. So, you go on singing the virtues of Charlie Kirk. We’ll be here the next time you need to exploit us for your own purposes.

What did he say about black people that you disagreed with?

saveforthat · 14/09/2025 19:16

I've not seen anyone singing his virtues at all on here, quite the opposite but just posts saying remember he has a family left behind. Everyone is different so of course slights to your womanhood may not cut deep (and many white women may agree with you). I don't, I grew up I the 1970s. I am a staunch feminist, slights to my womanhood cut very deep.

CallMeMessy · 14/09/2025 19:16

He was an out and out racist and many, MANY of us know that. Read some of the other threads and you’ll see that just as many, if not more people, think he was a particularly despicable person and while
no-one should be murdered for their political views, he won’t be missed by many.

PurpleChrayn · 14/09/2025 19:18

What did he say about Black people?

RidingTheTube · 14/09/2025 19:20

He was a blatant, unapologetic racist.

Tells you everything you need to know about the people who defend him.

PeanutGallerist · 14/09/2025 19:21

Thank you for posting, @QOrion.

MrsPinkSky · 14/09/2025 19:21

I don’t expect many replies

Don't worry, you'll get plenty with that thread title.

BollyKnickerz · 14/09/2025 19:22

I think you're looking at this with a very biased lens i'm afraid.

SulkySeagull · 14/09/2025 19:23

I’ve seen a lot of his interviews and content but I’ve not seen him ever mention race - can you shed some light on what he said?

ShesTheAlbatross · 14/09/2025 19:27

Insertfootnote · 14/09/2025 19:14

What did he say about black people that you disagreed with?

“Happening all the time in urban America, prowling Blacks go around for fun to go target white people, that’s a fact. It’s happening more and more.” If there’s an issue with racial crime, fine (although black people are more likely to be a victim of street crime than white people). But “prowling blacks”?

“If I see a Black pilot, I’m going to be like, boy, I hope he’s qualified.” For this one, he said he didn’t want to feel this way, but “the left” made him feel this way due to affirmative action. I’m not sure what affirmative action led to hiring unqualified pilots, but anyway. It’s also ridiculous because presumably he didn’t worry about white pilots (or white doctors or whatever) being less competent but more likely to be hired because they were white and male.

Dweetfidilove · 14/09/2025 19:35

@QOrion , you'll get plenty responses on this one.
Lots of faux shock, 'what did he say about black people', he was not a racist, he was a freedom fighter, blah blah blah. And, if you evidence his racism, be prepared for some gaslighting.

You can have your say, but don't expect much here.

BollyKnickerz · 14/09/2025 19:48

Unless I've missed it (which is possible?) I've not seen one thread on the poor young white girl in America who was stabbed senselessly and so violently by a black stranger and was left to die , looking terrified, and clutched herself in a ball until she collapsed and died in a pool of blood on the floor. All her fellow passengers (all black ) did nothing.

Now: we can pretend not to notice things or characteristics. Or we can start having very painful conversations. If the shoe was on the other foot and that was a black refugee stabbed by a white man and all the white passengers did nothing: we all know there would be anarchy.

So I don't think the divisional perpetual victim minority stance is helping cohesion is it.

We're all bloody victims of each other it seems.

Iryna Zharuvska I believe her name was.

Stop calling people "cunts" : it's not big and it's not clever and it doesn't wash.

A man died that had controversial views. He was still a husband and a father and a son. Two little girls now grow up without a daddy. A young woman is widowed.

Disagreeing with someone's views is fine. Shouting the word "cunt" about a murder victim (who's crime was saying things lots of people disagreed with ) is not tasteful at all.

What on earth are you on about?

Try reframing your post with an actual question.

VivienneDelacroix · 14/09/2025 20:19

The white fragility on this thread is embarrassing.

OP I've been appalled by the apologists for this man on here. I'm starting to think that the bots have taken over Mumsnet, because no one with an ounce of humanity can believe he was a force for good.

I don't think anyone should be assassinated, but this is the divided world people like Kirk have created. And America has basically free access to guns, which he also defended.

Could you link the whole interview/s please. Some context would be helpful.

LakieLady · 14/09/2025 20:28

He was a despicable human being imo, and a dangerous one.

But I found it ironic that if the USA had the strict gun controls that he was so opposed to, he would quite probably still be alive.

What gives you the right to label white people's views as "white fragility?" You're ok with racism towards whites then clearly? Did you bother to read my post about that poor young woman or do you just pick narratives where your cause is the victimhood?

What has that murder got to do with this thread? Men brutally murder women every day all over the world (black men, white men, black wonen, white women…motivated by racial or religious hatred sometimes, by hatred for women always ) . It is always horrific and frightening.

THIS is a thread about women on Mumsnet defending a PUBLIC figure who was most very definitely a racist.

Shame on you for bringing your ‘save our women’ nonsense here.

What has murder got to do with this thread !?

It's literally about a murder!!!

Only, the OP thinks it's black people that are always the victims and nasty white people don't care.

Iryna zhuravaska: what about all the black people surrounding her (and it literally was only black people ) that never came to a dying stab victims aide. Not even to try to stem the bleeding, or just cradle her as she died.

If the colours were reversed: there'd be riots. We all know that.

So I think it's rather crude timing to start pushing perpetual victimhood and making all white people out to be baddies. It's tiring. Really really tiring .

RidingTheTube · 14/09/2025 21:23

I meant what has THAT murder (of the young woman) got to do with this thread.

Skippydoodle · 14/09/2025 21:23

I’m from a mixed family. I agree with what he has said about the cultural/racial differences. I do not agree with all of his views, but often he has talked and quoted with upheld , statistics which are valid.

It's got EVERYTHING to do with this thread (and OPs distorted polarised view of white people ) if you can't see it: the problem is you. Not me.

He was a cunt who has made this world a more dangerous and more unpleasant place to live for a lot of people. Being a young father doesn't undo the damage his words have done and continue to do.

I wish he hadn't been killed but just because he was it doesn't make anything he said better. On the contrary. His wife and followers seem to be happy to make a martyr out of him and use his killing to further their agenda.
