Can’t find a name for my little boy?

Hello,

so I’m pregnant, 7 months and really really struggling to find a name. I have a boy already, and his name is as easy peasy for me to choose - I knew straight away, even before I was pregnant.

since finding out I’m having another boy, I’ve been struggling to think of a name. I have options…. But just don’t love any of them. I feel really guilty about it, feel bad that I can’t think of a name for him, can’t connect with him on that level? Maybe I’m over thinking it but I truly feel like a crappy mum, I should “know” his name.

My husband like Huxley… I thought it was okay, and would’ve happily have gone with it for him but his cousin has now called their baby Huxley. So that’s that. Won’t use it.

we both like Rudy, but i don’t LOVE it, it’s okay but doesn’t feel like that’s his name.

we like cassian, again, doesn’t move me to tears but it’s fine 🤣

these are the other options.

Oswin
Jago
Magnus
Neo
Roux
Marcel
Seb

Think Roux is too close to the making of a sauce and also he’ll be questioned on how to spell it.

love Magnus, always have, he’d be called Maggie? I don’t know. People love a nickname.

neo.. also like it but will people think I’ve named him after Neyo - the singer.

anyway, it’s a big deal naming a baby. I want something easy to say and spell, not tooo common.

My son is: Saxon
I love it so much, just looking for something to go with it.

help and please be nice….

Rupert? Felix? Cosmo? Jasper? I'm having a boy too! congratulations x

Absolutely.
Well, to be fair, they’d be fine in the posh areas of Edinburgh.
But Glasgow would be social suicide 😅

See, I was so stressed at the thought of these names in Glasgow that I replied to the wrong poster 😜 Comment below was for @WhiskyintheJarr

Wolfie, Rex, Thatcher, Rafe, Simon

Not Thatcher- that still has too many political associations.

I like Simon,

Some mumsnet posters really wind me up with their insistence that anything that isn't James or Harry will lead to your kid being duffed up in the playground and a lifetime of disgrace with some mad nickname. Newsflash, in most areas there is an incredibly diverse mix of names, gone are the days of classes of Emmas and Sarahs, thank fuck.

Love Rudy OP! Magnus is nice, I know a couple. Anything with nickname Cass great too

@Laertease Well, if I know it's Scandi (and i'm not even European or English) others would as well. There's enough footballers and famous people for people to associate it as Scandi. It's quite a common Scandi name - a bit like asking how people would know Antonio is Italian or Pavel is Slavic. It absolutely shouldn't and doesn't stop people taking names from other cultures if they like it, but the average person would assume you shared some heritage unless told otherwise. I personally find it odd to take names from cultures neither me or DH have any affinity to because to me I'd rather the name spoke to our own heritage. It's a personal preference though and OP wanted opinions so this is mine.

The same with Jago - people wouldn't know how to pronounce it so would ask where it's from. (Jay-go, Yay-go, Yaa-go, Jaa-go - which is an Indian name). There's a specific Cornish pronunciation I assume OP would want which is odd if you're not Cornish. A bit like if someone were to pick an Irish Gaelic name with specific pronunciation most people don't know (Niamh, Aoife, Siobhan etc) when having no Irish/Gaelic heritage. Difficult to pronounce names when they're part of your heritage are meaningful and an opportunity to share your language and culture, otherwise it's just having a name that is mispronounced for no reason. I have a very unusual and difficult to pronounce Asian name and love telling people what it means in my language - I'd find it a faff if it had no meaning to me.

Here in Scotland Alba seems to be quite popular as a name.
Perhaps if you are in England you could call your son Anglo. It would go nicely with his older brother's.

🤣

Where do some of you live that kids get bullied for having a less popular name? Thankfully we live in a cosmopolitan and open minded area!

wizzler · 15/09/2025 16:46

How about Angus ?
i like pp suggestion of Augustus
jude ?

I live in the cotswolds so I was just listing a few nice names at my children's school but I see that it could be an issue if you lived in certain areas 🤣 ...

Pick something easy to spell with an obvious pronunciation or he might not thank you for it. Plenty of good ideas on here.
