Can’t find a name for my little boy?

Saxfie2021 · 13/09/2025 15:33

Hello,

so I’m pregnant, 7 months and really really struggling to find a name. I have a boy already, and his name is as easy peasy for me to choose - I knew straight away, even before I was pregnant.

since finding out I’m having another boy, I’ve been struggling to think of a name. I have options…. But just don’t love any of them. I feel really guilty about it, feel bad that I can’t think of a name for him, can’t connect with him on that level? Maybe I’m over thinking it but I truly feel like a crappy mum, I should “know” his name.

My husband like Huxley… I thought it was okay, and would’ve happily have gone with it for him but his cousin has now called their baby Huxley. So that’s that. Won’t use it.

we both like Rudy, but i don’t LOVE it, it’s okay but doesn’t feel like that’s his name.

we like cassian, again, doesn’t move me to tears but it’s fine 🤣

these are the other options.

Oswin
Jago
Magnus
Neo
Roux
Marcel
Seb

Think Roux is too close to the making of a sauce and also he’ll be questioned on how to spell it.

love Magnus, always have, he’d be called Maggie? I don’t know. People love a nickname.

neo.. also like it but will people think I’ve named him after Neyo - the singer.

anyway, it’s a big deal naming a baby. I want something easy to say and spell, not tooo common.

My son is: Saxon
I love it so much, just looking for something to go with it.

help and please be nice….

Cassius - when he’s older kids may associate it with Mohammed Ali (Cassius Clay was his real name) and if he’s a wee, nerdy lad rather than a tough, fighter could lead to terrible teasing. Tbh even if he joined a trades or police or army where nicknames are common, he’d have that issue.

Roman is a good, solid choice as it’s not that unusual and keeps with the theme of naming the boys after old European tribes like Saxon. Albion is similar and if you’re ethically English would be well suited - Alby for short. The only thing to be wary of is if these tribes aren’t painted in a good light in history class and a more diverse non-white group of people would see it as being a bit ‘aggressively patriotic’. I don’t personally think there’s anything wrong with it but in a world where so much history is getting cancelled - maybe the less association with historic tribes the better.

Rudy is lovely and uncontroversial , and Arlo is getting more main stream - very cool. Milka sounds too much like the famous Austrian chocolate.

Magnus is a popular and lovely Swedish/Nordic name - if his surname isn’t and there’s no Scandi heritage, he might find it confusing or deal with questions/assumptions about it. Esp if he ever works with Scandis which he might in a global job.

I like Jago with it’s Cornish origins but might be a bit odd if you live in northern England and no family/heritage from Cornwall.

Talk about stretches of the imagination 😁

Saxon and Rex
Saxon and Edward
Saxon and Felix
Saxon and Milo
Saxon and Woodie
Saxon and Fergus
Saxon and Reggie

All the best to you, @Saxfie2021 ~ there are loads of fabulous names in the responses x

SpringingOn · 14/09/2025 08:56

I like Oswin or Jago from your list.

Magnus, Seb, Rudy and Marcel are also solid names but not my taste.

I don't like Roux or Neo.

Similar names I like/already suggested are Oisin, Rufus, Reuben (nn. Roo), Jasper, Eikki. Maybe Leo instead of Neo.

Wyndham (nn Wyn)?

😂 These are the names of my father in law and his brothers who are all in their 80s. You missed Ron and Pete

Absolutely awful names for today

Good, classic names! No worse than the names OP likes 😬

Sometimes they have to be born and in your arms for you to make a final decision. I don’t think I settled on a name until they’d arrived lol.

Vandal?! Really?!

No, that was an attempted joke, following the suggestions of Dane, Norman, Roman, etc. to go with Saxon. I think the English language version of the name Vandal is Wendel(l), though, anyway.

Exactly what I was going to say.
Why the rush OP. Just wait until he's born.

Thank goodness! Although it’s probably not the worst on here, there are some awful suggestions.

How many people know that Jago has Cornish origins? How likely is it that this would cause any issue, ever?

Same with Magnus. It's a gorgeous name that's made the leap to non-Scandi parents using the name, and in the real world, it's really, really unlikely to be an issue that the OP isn't Swedish.

ElixirOfLife · 14/09/2025 21:53

Ah yes it’s true that’s Cornish - Jago or Trago!

What about a cross between Magnus and Jago - Mungo!

Neo or Jago are nice and sound good with Saxon.

If you love Magnus how about Gus as a nickname?

MotherOfShihTzus · 14/09/2025 22:28

Augustus, Gus for short?

Butteredtoast55 · 14/09/2025 22:45

If you want unusual, definitely don't choose Neo. I have it on good authority there are lots of boys being named Neo at the moment!
To the PP who commented on grandad names, Ronnie is actually pretty popular. I know three baby Ronnies, and a Roddy.

Saxon and Cassius

All sound fab, imo!

What about Mika?

I like Mika, originally liked it for a girl but I do like a masculine name for girl….

(and if ya hate that you’ll hate the name we had if this baby was female 🤣)

anyway, MIKA?

I prefer that spelling to Micha -

Would you pronounce it Me-Kar or My-ka

I would also associate it with girls, as I know a girl called Amika who goes by Mika. But I think it works really well for a boy too. He can stick with original, or go by Mike/Mickey if wants. I'm a firm believer in giving names with a variety of options for shortening/variation - we chose a name but the child has to live with it for a lifetime

I also like your suggestion of Reuben, and also Rowan.

SnowFrogJelly · 15/09/2025 01:09

Klaxon?

Dearnurse · 15/09/2025 01:52

Rupert? Felix? Cosmo? Jasper? I'm having a boy too! congratulations x
