Can’t find a name for my little boy?

Saxfie2021 · 13/09/2025 15:33

Hello,

so I’m pregnant, 7 months and really really struggling to find a name. I have a boy already, and his name is as easy peasy for me to choose - I knew straight away, even before I was pregnant.

since finding out I’m having another boy, I’ve been struggling to think of a name. I have options…. But just don’t love any of them. I feel really guilty about it, feel bad that I can’t think of a name for him, can’t connect with him on that level? Maybe I’m over thinking it but I truly feel like a crappy mum, I should “know” his name.

My husband like Huxley… I thought it was okay, and would’ve happily have gone with it for him but his cousin has now called their baby Huxley. So that’s that. Won’t use it.

we both like Rudy, but i don’t LOVE it, it’s okay but doesn’t feel like that’s his name.

we like cassian, again, doesn’t move me to tears but it’s fine 🤣

these are the other options.

Oswin
Jago
Magnus
Neo
Roux
Marcel
Seb

Think Roux is too close to the making of a sauce and also he’ll be questioned on how to spell it.

love Magnus, always have, he’d be called Maggie? I don’t know. People love a nickname.

neo.. also like it but will people think I’ve named him after Neyo - the singer.

anyway, it’s a big deal naming a baby. I want something easy to say and spell, not tooo common.

My son is: Saxon
I love it so much, just looking for something to go with it.

help and please be nice….

Honestly, we drove through a village called “saxmundham” and I thought “Sax” that’s cool, and then that led to Saxon….

and that was it, my partner liked it and if we ever had a boy he was Saxon. We fell pregnant a couple of months after that moment :)

And when you came up with Roux were you making lasagne?

Boopeedoop · 13/09/2025 20:15

I’ve seen a few babies name Roux (and Roo) recently, although the Rouxs have been female.

honestly, names are very wide and varied now, not just celebrities and upper class.

The "olde" historical names, the geographical names, the latin / greek literature inspired names, old fashioned 1800s names, books of the bible names, Hebrew names etc.

Of course Oliver, Freddie, Theo, George, Jack are popular because they are so nice but there are a lot of folk who choose names they like!!!! it's not like the op wants to call her 2nd child "Rake", "Trunk" or "Hose Pipe"

Kingston
Prince
Sterling
Aspen
Rowan
Julius
Lincoln

Enjoy this special time of choosing your child's name!

Absolutely awful names for today

Clearly state in my original post - that even though I like Roux, it is the same roux as making a sauce. So very funny but literally stated this and won’t be using it

What about Mika?

I like Mika, originally liked it for a girl but I do like a masculine name for girl….

(and if ya hate that you’ll hate the name we had if this baby was female 🤣)

anyway, MIKA?

I prefer that spelling to Micha -

If you like Roux, how about Rupert, nn Roo?
Or, Archer? I feel like that has Saxon vibes?

Saxfie2021 · 13/09/2025 19:55

we call him Saxon normally - we don’t usually shorten it, I think it’s a very strong name for a man and I feel it will grow with him.

we are now swaying towards Cassius. :)

Each to their own - only he can be the judge of that. We agree to disagree. When that kid learns about Angke Saxons the teasing may increase ….

Ah - I'm in my late 60s and all the kids called Elsie, Ruby, Stanley, Ernie, etc - they were names from my grandparents' generation.

Names come and go and someone has to be the one to bring back what sounds to some like an old-fashioned name!

Take a look in the mirror and stop pointing fingers I haven’t been unkind but factual. You have been accusatory, unkind and rude just because you didn’t like my opinion. In fact you have been quite cutting and personal to anyone who doesn’t agree that the name Saxon is an amazing one. To me is isn’t. That’s fine. It’s an opinion. It isn’t right or wrong but doesnt warrant your passive aggressive behaviour. I don’t wish anything on a four year old and said when he studies angle Saxons which he clearly won’t do at four.

And the irony of speaking about the world being unkind and then writing what you did. You aren’t the authority.

Your comment was uncalled for and nasty. I am perfectly lovely and my children have great names. You do you.

KTheGrey · 13/09/2025 21:43

I am liking Anhalt. I don’t know why, just sounds kind of strong and definite.

Marcel is lovely. Marcus is one of my personal favourites instead of Magnus?

I’d read that as ‘mee-ka’ (like the singer) I’m afraid!

Micah is the usual (biblical) spelling. It's usually pronounced My-kah, and the Micah spelling makes that more obvious.

It's a male name - Micah was a prophet.
