Can’t find a name for my little boy?

Saxfie2021 · 13/09/2025 15:33

Hello,

so I’m pregnant, 7 months and really really struggling to find a name. I have a boy already, and his name is as easy peasy for me to choose - I knew straight away, even before I was pregnant.

since finding out I’m having another boy, I’ve been struggling to think of a name. I have options…. But just don’t love any of them. I feel really guilty about it, feel bad that I can’t think of a name for him, can’t connect with him on that level? Maybe I’m over thinking it but I truly feel like a crappy mum, I should “know” his name.

My husband like Huxley… I thought it was okay, and would’ve happily have gone with it for him but his cousin has now called their baby Huxley. So that’s that. Won’t use it.

we both like Rudy, but i don’t LOVE it, it’s okay but doesn’t feel like that’s his name.

we like cassian, again, doesn’t move me to tears but it’s fine 🤣

these are the other options.

Oswin
Jago
Magnus
Neo
Roux
Marcel
Seb

Think Roux is too close to the making of a sauce and also he’ll be questioned on how to spell it.

love Magnus, always have, he’d be called Maggie? I don’t know. People love a nickname.

neo.. also like it but will people think I’ve named him after Neyo - the singer.

anyway, it’s a big deal naming a baby. I want something easy to say and spell, not tooo common.

My son is: Saxon
I love it so much, just looking for something to go with it.

help and please be nice….

The Magnus we know does get called Maggie a lot. I guess it’s the most intuitive shortening…

CinnamonBuns67 · 13/09/2025 17:55

I think as you have a Saxon, Roman would be good as would Marcel and Magnus would fit in well.

Lifestooshort71 · 13/09/2025 18:07

I agree with pp - Finn.

I LOVE caspar.

I liked the nickname Cass so tried to convince my OH with cassius, caspar, caspian... All to no avail 😭.

We went with Ezra in the end which I do love.

How about Acer, Ace for short?

What made you choose saxon? I think it would help know what you like about it to find other names you might connect with.

Also have you tried chat gpt 😂 I put my name list in and asked for suggestions and it helped because I could pinpoint specific things I liked such as nicknames ending In the ee sound and I didnt want a link with nature. It did help with ideas.

Honestly, we drove through a village called “saxmundham” and I thought “Sax” that’s cool, and then that led to Saxon….

and that was it, my partner liked it and if we ever had a boy he was Saxon. We fell pregnant a couple of months after that moment :)

Sounds like you like names with X in them. How about:

Maddox
Alexis
Axel
Xavier
Maxwell
Dexter

I love Magnus btw. A friend's son is Magnus. Don't think he's ever been called Maggie.

cramptramp · 13/09/2025 18:16

None of them. Just give him a normal name.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 13/09/2025 18:26

I believe the name Ozymandias is much underused and it even has a random food connection like Roux as well. 🐌

PuddleintheOcean · 13/09/2025 18:27

Really like Magnus.

Tudor?
Quinn?

WheresMyFont · 13/09/2025 18:29

Very much like Jesse. And goes well with Saxon.

HumerousHumous · 13/09/2025 18:29

There’s been some lovely name suggestions but I’d probably avoid anything with the same vowel sound, so the ‘a’ in Magnus, Casper, Xavier etc. may have both your DS’s running when you shout to them that it’s dinner time. Roman and Saxon is lovely but may raise a few chuckles, still a fab couple of names though. Think Huxley is a dog’s name tbh.

Rudy is fabulous….as is Seb but give him Sebastian on BC.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 13/09/2025 18:30

Troy.

CoheedandCambria · 13/09/2025 18:37

They're not going to be laughed at at school for having a less common name these days as lots of people go for less common names!

Is Cassian an Andor reference. I also like it for that reason and there is an actor whose real name is Cassian in another great sci-fi show I like.

I have to say I don't really like Magnus it makes me think of Magnus Magnuson.

I like Tamlin - has old English kind of vibes I think.
Have always liked Rowan

BlueSlate · 13/09/2025 18:40

I like Rudy.

You can sing A Message to Rudy to him too. Keep him on the straight and narrow 😉

ArchieStar · 13/09/2025 18:43

Phoenix

Jago is a legitimate Cornish name.

Jago very popular in my area! I really like it

Arlo and Saxon
Jake and Saxon
Jasper and Saxon

BunnyRuddington · 13/09/2025 18:49

You don’t have to be certain on a name and you’re not failing if you haven’t got a name at 7 months.

Our DC2 was named after I’d given birth and DH was holding her and it suits her very well.

The names you’ve mentioned so far are all lovely names Smile

Greenmoonshining · 13/09/2025 18:51

I really like x names. I have a Dexter and Hendrix was a back up. Ignore any of the negative comments. Less traditional names are not unusual now so I don’t know why anyone thinks they would be laughed at at school etc. Those posters probably need to focus more on bringing up children that don’t bully rather than criticising others name choices on the internet.
