My son has gone on the march

Hi, have been on here years but only lurk, don’t post. But today is the day.
I am in bits. My 22yr old DS is in London on this march. I am shaking and utterly appalled. We differ on politics massively and have done for some time. I work in education, have travelled and am bit of a lefty hippy but to be honest it’s becoming more about values and morals. He is fully immersed in the manosphere algorithm and I’ve always thought he is exploring himself and things and have chats about why he has the opinions he does and try and understand his point of view. I try not to belittle him but try and get him to critically think about things.
But this I can’t deal with. I am so upset that my son has gone to this, and that it is something that is so far away from me and my values, something that I thought I had instilled in him as well.
I am totally aware that it’s triggered embarrassment but that is my issue and I’m not putting that on him. He is still my son and I love him and his passion and interest in the world, just in something I believe is so wrong and makes me sad.
Please talk some sense into me.

Neither is being concerned about immigration and the effect it's having on the country means that a person is far right and a racist. I think the protest is aimed at the Government really. People want them to do something. I have heard chants of "Starmer is a wanker" when watching footage of recent protests.

The historical context Is relevant in London in particular, it is making people feel uneasy and uncomfortable and this is not fair or right.

This is complete rubbish.

The only indoctrination happening is the son being indoctrinated by the racists.

Owl718 · 13/09/2025 11:19

You say you aim to be open minded and provide a balanced view to your DS but then have an issue if he doesn’t agree with you.

The fact that you think your views are right and his are wrong shows you are incredibly blinkered.

You are not acting in the way you claim you are. You are trying to indoctrinate him.

Closed minds such as yours are unhealthy. I’m afraid you are a poor role model for your DS.

You don't believe anyone should have sincerely held beliefs then?

Good on him! It's a celbrate Britian gathering you're completely unhinged!

What an embarrassing comment.

stoptheworldiwanna · 13/09/2025 13:06

Your son is allowed his own views. You will lose him if you try to control him.

Sure. Just don’t foist them onto others.

If they have no other pressing concerns in life. What a luxury!

What a silly, ill-considered retort. To many millions of people, sport is a welcome distraction from the very pressing concerns of their everyday lives.

just turned bbc on - it is athletics.
i wonder how racists think about all the immigrants who make up our sports teams? i bet they change their tune then!

That is a different matter.

Sportspeople have come to UK legally and are gainfully and legally employed.

Illegal migrants are just here to "work the system".

LadyJaneEarlGreyTea · 13/09/2025 13:07

MrsSkylerWhite · 13/09/2025 12:58

And?

The pp was trying to say that the right wing protesters are ‘bad’ people and used the abuse of police as an example.

The op aligns herself with pro Palestine protestors, presumably seeing them as ‘good’, I assume the pp also sees left wing protesters as ‘good’.

I was pointing out that the people who the op and pp perceive as ‘good’ are no less likely to abuse the police.

Unless it’s okay for the left to abuse the police but not the right?

You can’t resist resorting to insults, can you? 😁

Of course it’s aimed at the Government. The right (via right wing media) have been trying to topple Labour since July 2024.

It’s funny we didn’t see protests at hotels and organised marches from 2023 when immigration soared due to Brexit and Johnson’s policies.

Wonder who did these jobs before mass immigration?

I wonder…

Migration isn’t a new thing, so give your little brain a rest and stop wondering.

Shewasafaireh · 13/09/2025 13:09

Why is MN suddenly overrun by right wingers these past few days? I know it skews conservative but this is OTT

Goldenbear · 13/09/2025 13:09

smallpinecone · 13/09/2025 13:01

There you go. No discussion, automatically branded a racist. Thank you for proving my point! 😄

You haven't responded as to how historical racism in Britain is not relevant, you haven't explained in any detail why you think this context is not relevant, it is not an opinion I have, it is a fact. A fact you wouldn't understand if you didn't grow up in 90s London. Context is everything, what the U.S. feels is irrelevant!

ComfortFoodCafe · 13/09/2025 13:09

Your son is allowed his own views, keep pushing yours onto him and you will lose him.
He is his own person, not an extension of you.

CaptainMyCaptain · 13/09/2025 13:09

apricotcobbler · 13/09/2025 12:51

Because of the rise of "non-crime hate incidents" where the Police are sidetracked from actual "policing", checking up on people accused of writing "hurty words" on social media.

'Hurty words' threatening to burn them alive.

I'm sorry OP, I'd find this hard too. Tara Brach has good talks and meditations about this. Best of luck xxx

Susan the UK has solid foundations built on the back of immigration. The current issue with the UK is we have thousands on thousands of undocumented, unknown males entering the country ILLEGALLY who should not be here. On top of this our services are at breaking point, our own people are struggling to make ends meet but we're paying £8 MILLION PER DAY in food & housing for these people whilst our own are on the street. They are also given priority for housing, no one should come before our own!!

You clearly don't have a clue about what's going on.

Just to add many of these males are not fleeing war torn countries and the ones that are have come through many safe countries to get here and they are here to take take take but we're not allowed to say too much otherwise we risk being arrested HENCE THE FREEDOM OF SPEECH FESTIVAL today in London.

So the March is just a dressing up party for people without plans on a Saturday?
