Anyway, to recap, I would never have to make the choice to hand my son in as he is not a hard left lunatic who would slaughter a man in front of his kids, that's just not a decision I would ever have to make.

But the man who did this should be publicly executed, and we need to bring back public executions for paedophiles too.

I think the majority of normal children grow up in households which DON'T want a return to medieval era public executions. But maybe you might be happier in Afghanistan, I hear that watching people be killed is a popular pass-time for the Taliban. CK had a lot in common with them.

Apparently those reports were wrong and the dad was never in law enforcement.

CNN are also reporting that the suspect had said that he'd rather commit suicide than turn himself in, so the dad was in a very difficult spot.

Of course you'd be terrified of turning him in, death penalty or no death penalty, because he's never going to step foot outside of prison again for the rest of his life, but suicide/being killed by the cops would be the more pressing immediate concern, there was absolutely no way he would have got away with it or been able to go on the run, he was Americas number 1 most wanted so there was no hope whatsoever of getting away with it.

I'm suprised so many people are so against using the death penalty at all, and interested as to why that is? Is it because it then feels like they are escaping facing their punishment?

I certainly think it should be administered carefully, but not sure how anyone can want proven evil monsters like the Southport killer, Wayne cousins, or Ian Huntley (could name many more) walking the earth and wasting taxpayers money being kept alive for years for no reason.
People who have done crimes too awful to ever be rehabilitated for are a waste of oxygen.

Because most normal, balanced people, even those who agree with the death penalty, don't think watching people die should be public entertainment regardless of what crime they have committed.

I, and many other reasonable human beings, do not agree with state sanctioned murder. You may have noticed it’s not been legal in the UK for quite some time.

Nope, most normal balanced people want or would be perfectly fine with the public execution of child rapists and would absolutely never get upset over a throwaway comment about it.
