Turn your son in knowing it’s the death penalty?

TaupeLemur · 12/09/2025 15:28

Kirk’s killer has apparently been turned in by his family - or persuaded to hand himself in.
Trump &’his supporters have been very vocal about getting the death penalty for the shooter.

would YOU hand your child over, knowing that the electric chair would be the likely outcome?

YANBU - I wouldn’t turn him in to die.

YABU - I would he’s a killer and deserves all he gets

At this point all we have been told is that he is in custody. I would imagine there will be a psychological evaluation as to his state of mind and even the possibility of a plea deal not unlike Brian Kohberger.

If his family believe he is still danger to himself or others I honestly don't see any other choice than turning him in. Also his picture was out there. He was actively being hunted by law enforcement and the general public.

Edited

His family is republican.

Also, while what he did is horrific, there has to be some responsibility of social media bosses for exposing young people to extremist views on both sides. Being so politically motivated at age 22 to commit such shocking violence would not have been so easily possible without the help of social media brainwashing.

Death penatly needs to be brought back in europe too, too many looneys around and keeping them in comfy jails with xboxes (like the one who stabbed little girls 100 something times) is a joke not a punishment,

Who? Can you quote some of these posts that evidence ‘seriously disturbed individuals ‘ on this thread?

Yep;‘He would have forced them to do that, and now he is dead he can no longer force his children to give birth to a rapist’s baby. They are better off.’

Yep;‘He would have forced them to do that, and now he is dead he can no longer force his children to give birth to a rapist’s baby. They are better off.’

you know where that came from? “Chat GPT, debate in the style of Charlie Kirk” Grin

Out of curiosity though, do you think good parents force 9 or 10 year olds to give birth to rapists’ babies?

nettie434 · 12/09/2025 23:19

I assume that his relatives balanced the probability of life imprisonment against him eventually being involved in a fatal shoot out as the authorities gradually closed in on him.

Actually there are far fewer people in US prisons who are executed than are imprisoned for life without parole. Quite a few drug companies refuse to sell sedatives that could be used in executions to US prisons. It is possible that he will not be executed If convicted. Most death penalty decisions are made at state level. They also often occur many years after the offence because of the appeal process. The exception is Timothy McVeigh who refused to take any part in the appeal process.

It must be a terrible decision for anyone. How do you decide if you should keep quiet (and possibly place more lives at risk) or inform the police. It's just another of the reasons why the death penalty is wrong.

Well yes, CK is clearly the disturbed individual with abhorrent views. But can you provide a quote which shows a poster has ‘seriously disturbed’ views, as that’s what you keep saying?

...according to chatGPT

Is this the level of debate these days? ChatGPT says so, so it must be true?

muminherts · 12/09/2025 23:24

I don’t approve of the death penalty but you can’t not report someone who has killed. This individual is clearly dangerous.

Reading is fundamental. The key prompt was “include your source”. And there it is, right there, by each statistic. You can look it up in any way you like - pop to the library, look at every news article manually, count them on your fingers and carve it into a stone if you wish. Or publications like the NYT and the Guardian have done fairly expensive deep dives into it. It doesn’t change the facts - political violence in America is overwhelmingly right wing. In fact, in 2022 every single act of US political violence had a right wing perpetrator.

Except I DIDN’T say all that stuff about his children being raped. Charlie Kirk did. It’s a direct quote. Here you go - you can watch him say it. Literally everything I have said has been to point out that this is sick and wrong, and disagree with him.

I’m still waiting for you to provide quotes to back up this statement @ThatWaryOchreQuoter

“Some seriously disturbed individuals. You can quite clearly see where the violence comes from.”

Or is this just more inflammatory hyperbole and personal insults..

?!? That was the quote. Did you think CK came back to life to post on mumsnet about his kids getting raped and they’re better off with him dead? That is incredibly unlikely.

I have literally provided you with the video of him saying it. Everything I have said has been to disagree with that. I think discussing your own daughters being raped is sick and disgusting, and the idea of forcing them to have a rape baby is abhorrent. But you know who didn’t? Charlie Kirk.

That video is literally him saying he would do that. Do you think I am deranged for saying that his daughters shouldn’t have to carry a rape baby, and you don’t think he is deranged for saying he would force them to carry a rape baby? Looks like you are the one Prevent needs to look at - what is WRONG with you that you think that’s ok?

Weren't his family in the audience so his 3 year old daughter may well remember watching her dad die in front of her.

That said, people tend to avoid the death penalty when they turn themselves in and cooperate.

It's hellish to think about. Poor little boy and girl, and poor Erika.
