Turn your son in knowing it’s the death penalty?

1000 replies

TaupeLemur · 12/09/2025 15:28

Kirk’s killer has apparently been turned in by his family - or persuaded to hand himself in.
Trump &’his supporters have been very vocal about getting the death penalty for the shooter.

would YOU hand your child over, knowing that the electric chair would be the likely outcome?

YANBU - I wouldn’t turn him in to die.

YABU - I would he’s a killer and deserves all he gets

I can't find any evidence he thought women shouldn't be able to vote so I didn't even bother to fact check the rest of what you wrote.

I went ahead and fact checked the rest for you too-
here he is just the latest time he said women should submit to their husband - https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/charlie-kirk-taylor-swift-travis-kelce-engagement-b2814724.html

here he is telling a teenage girl she should only be allowed to go to college to find a husband - https://www.independent.co.uk/tv/news/charlie-kirk-girl-college-mrs-degree-video-b2773303.html

and here he is saying he’d force his daughters to carry a rape baby - https://www.reddit.com/r/ToiletPaperUSA/s/mX2PMczjQZ

Charlie Kirk claims Taylor Swift’s engagement will make her ‘conservative’

MAGA mouthpiece Charlie Kirk offered a somewhat disingenuous congratulations to the pop megastar – who he has regularly criticized for being ‘woke’ – following the announcement

You definitely did say that!!! And lots of people say terrible things, all the time, im soooo pissed off with the left now and the way they behave! Believe in my way or DIe!

Go ahead and find it. Where did I say that?

JHound · 12/09/2025 20:52

He did not say women should not be educated. He said their main reason for going to university should be to find a husband.

And he did not say it 10 years ago (getting young woman to have children early is an obsession of his).

www.independent.co.uk/tv/news/charlie-kirk-girl-college-mrs-degree-video-b2773303.html

Jesus, what a ridiculous thing for him to say. That’s really very embarrassing (also - thank you for providing an actual link with actual footage of him saying it because I am quite suspicious of people mis quoting him to further their argument)

I obviously think what he said here is fucking ridiculous. But he did have a right to say it. And my point to the PP was that, for all we know, he may have looked back on that in ten years time when his daughters were older and he felt differently and realised himself what a ridiculous statement it was. Or maybe he wouldn’t. But either way, he’s had that chance taken away from him. The chance to learn and to grow. Because someone thought he deserved to be shot for his words.

I don't believe in an eye for an eye, and I thought Christians were not supposed to either - isn't that very Old Testament? I think the death penalty is abhorrent and unjust and if I knew for sure there would be zero repercussions and things would all work out, I would not turn my child in if they faced the death penalty, but I can also understand the father's actions and the worth of doing the 'right thing'. I can only imagine being horribly conflicted in this situation and there are of course so many angles we are not aware about.

The US death penalty is incompatible with the right to life and the prohibition of cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment under the ECHR. While he wouldn't qualify for asylum due to having carried out a serious non-political crime, there may be a reasonable expectation that the shooter would be protected against return to the US, if he made it as far as the EU for example. Completely hypothetical and probably practically impossible, but if it were my child, I would hope they might be able to escape the US and face justice in a more rights-respecting jurisdiction!

And when has that ever, ever, happened in Utah?

Serious question, btw.

Also, who exactly are "that lot"?

There’s a first time for everything. Kirsti Noem said she’d think about a tv show in relation to immigrants, so who knows what the administration is capable of.

Tatemoderndrawyourown · 12/09/2025 19:38

Love this. I agree with others facing their sins but not my own child. Bet there’s plenty more you(‘d) let them get away with.

@Tatemoderndrawyourown

why is it ok for others to face the consequences and not your offspring?! NEWSFLASH- your children are not above anyone else.

TheNinkyNonkyIsATardis · 12/09/2025 21:07

I understand how repulsive his comments about his daughter were. But it remains true that they were hypothetical - as are most people's ideas of how they'd respond on this thread are.

What's real is that 3yo saw her dad die. I read that she ran towards him because she was scared.

I couldn’t see anywhere in this article that he said women shouldn’t vote.

PrestonHood121 · 12/09/2025 21:08

They might take death penalty off the table if he pleads guilty to avoid a trial.

The discussion was on a radio show. They said that women should not be allowed to vote for anyone other than who their husband was voting for, and for her to cast a different vote was abhorrent.

Rosscameasdoody · 12/09/2025 20:45

They haven’t executed anyone since 1977. Aggravated murder is the only charge that attracts the death penalty, but prosecutors have to specifically request it, and they usually don't, preferring to opt for life without parole or a minimum sentence of 25 years.

He has been charged with aggravated murder.

Have skimmed the thread but not read every post.

Just wanted to add something I have been wondering as I thought if I would turn one of my own sons in if it had been them-

Is there a different response if you are a mum or a dad?

It was the dad who turned him in and the mum was scrubbing facebook of pics of him with guns. Which I suspect I might have done myself.

I don't know the answer but thought an interesting discussion.
And obviously not every mum or every dad but wondering if they would have the same answer...

Neither have I but that’s really not the point.

Actually it is, because there's a difference between fundamental basic values, like equality, and political views. One of them is a reflection of your character and isn't going to change. He had bad character. And in response to your previous comment, if I stand on a platform and urge people to keep guns, oppose legislation around guns and oppose the rights of their daughters, sisters, mothers, friends and neighbours then yes, I am at least in part responsible for the harm they go on to cause because of my words.

I couldn’t see anywhere in this article that he said women shouldn’t vote.

Neither could I. The poster attacked me and insinuated that my reading skills aren’t up to scratch, but clearly neither are theirs because he doesn’t say anything of the kind. It was a debate about a woman lying to her husband about which way she had voted. I don’t agree with a single word that came out of the man’s mouth, but clearly the fact that he’s dead means far more to this poster than the fact that he was killed because of his views.

RingoJuice · 12/09/2025 21:10

in 2024, following a campaign ad that reminded women that voting is private and they could vote differently from their husbands without disclosing it, Kirk reacted strongly. He described the idea of a wife lying to her husband about whom she would vote for, or voting for someone else as “nauseating”. He called it “the embodiment of the downfall of the American family.”

TaupeLemur · 12/09/2025 21:13

The more I read about it, the more I think the parents/dad/ whoever did it to save his life right now.
I suppose they can fight again to save his life later with lawyers in a courtroom.

Not if Trump
has anything to do with it.

That was my thought. It seems the death penalty is on the table for aggravated murder, which is what they’re charging him with. Prosecutors in Utah don’t normally go for it, opting instead for life with no parole etc, but if the specify it, it’s a possibility.
