Turn your son in knowing it’s the death penalty?

TaupeLemur · 12/09/2025 15:28

Kirk’s killer has apparently been turned in by his family - or persuaded to hand himself in.
Trump &’his supporters have been very vocal about getting the death penalty for the shooter.

would YOU hand your child over, knowing that the electric chair would be the likely outcome?

YANBU - I wouldn’t turn him in to die.

YABU - I would he’s a killer and deserves all he gets

Does America even have a 'left', not as we know it in the UK.

Lucky them…

Yes it does the democrats - joe and Kamila

MyDeftHedgehog · 12/09/2025 18:51

Child killers should receive the death penalty

InterIgnis · 12/09/2025 18:52

Onthebusses · 12/09/2025 18:04

I am sceptical about the whole thing. Some kid? Made that shot? More likely a false flag to amplify the right wing voice. He'll probably turn up to court looking like he's on all sorts of meds, cause he will be. Patsy.

A 22 year old that’s been handling guns and hunting since childhood could absolutely make that shot.

That would have chosen a better patsy than this guy for a false flag.

Although he enjoys the presumption of innocence at this time, he was happy to dish it out, so I’m sure he’s capable of taking it.

Yes but for some reason I am reminded of a line in Heart Of Darkness, "The horror! the horror!".So much violence all around.

Yes it does the democrats - joe and Kamila

They are not 'left wing' they are Centrists.

DorothyGaleFromKansas · 12/09/2025 18:55

Don’t worry - they only wanted the death penalty when they thought the shooter was a democrat, trans person of colour. Now that it turns out to be a white guy from a Christian republican family they’re just going to pray for him instead…. Hmm

If all evidence is a definite that's him and he admits it, why shouldn't it be a death penalty?

Kirk's 2 children are now growing up without a Daddy.

This. If you take someone’s life then why should you get to live

Are you British? They absolutely are if you are comparing them to the Labour party here (well, not so much now).

Because in a civilised society you don't have state sanctioned murder.

I'm not British and I'm not comparing them to the labour party.

JustMyView13 · 12/09/2025 19:01

Yes. Anyone who can assassinate a prominent figure should be taken off the streets at the earliest possible moment. That man is not the son they know. At the heart of this discussion is a cold blooded killer. Would we even be asking this question if he’d behaved this way in his school? There’s a lot wrong with America - but one things for sure, life for a life is a well known risk you take when you go around shooting people.

Yeah just lunatic lefties murdering you for your opinions

Pregnancyquestion · 12/09/2025 19:02

I’d hand them in but only because I couldn’t live with myself if they went on to kill others. I’d do my best to get them a good lawyer. I don’t agree with the death penalty but my child made the decision to kill someone so he’s not safe to be around others. I’d have to accept that I’d chosen to live somewhere with the death penalty - which would never happen as there’s no way I’d live in a country that believes in the death penalty

What does the violence do to help the U.S. society, What's the homicide rate again?

Digte · 12/09/2025 19:04

Hoppinggreen · 12/09/2025 16:27

Yes
I don't need to think about anything.
The ONLY reason for turning him in would be his safety or the safety of others, mostly his.
Might make some people uncomfortable but I don't much care

Clearly this thread is hypothetical, but folk with this attitude are the reason why there hasn't been justice for Stephen, or peace for his family.

People have no shame. Or morals.

I never said it helped US society.
40000 per annum I believe

Onthebusses · 12/09/2025 18:47

You sound racist. That man had mental health problems. The state and their lack of mental health provision, and possibly their racism, are to blame there.

Had that man just been racist and compus mentus I would feel very differently.

I still wouldn't condone vilifying black people in the way the American right do though because that leads to violence against them.

That story was a damning indictment of the US mental health and US criminal justice. Apparently his mom and sister had begged for him to be locked up.

Kirk taking this and making it a diatribe against ALL black Americans says more about him.

Dearnurse · 12/09/2025 19:05

No I wouldn't hand my child over ... unless they were something terrible like (god forbid) a pedophile or S crimes etc then i would hand them over but in their position I would do everything in my power to make sure they didn't catch him , I don't agree with what he did but the man was evil & stood for terrible things it's not like he killed a child ...

Bodypumpmum · 12/09/2025 19:05

I would support it

indoorplantqueen · 12/09/2025 19:06

I would turn in my child in in these circumstances because what sort of life would he have? His identity is known and he wouldn’t be able to hide forever. Someone else would kill him.

I am generally opposed to the DP because there have been so many wrongful convictions, but if there was absolutely concrete evidence that could not be disputed then in some cases the world is better without certain people (rapists, child murderers etc).

Makes me laugh how all these “pro lifers” lose their beliefs when it comes to the death penalty.

A very good point!

But killing people is all fine in your books lol

Iwantmyoldnameback · 12/09/2025 19:07

I would not hand my son in no but I'd also be damn sure he wasn't playing with guns - that was a hell of a shot!
