Turn your son in knowing it’s the death penalty?

TaupeLemur · 12/09/2025 15:28

Kirk’s killer has apparently been turned in by his family - or persuaded to hand himself in.
Trump &’his supporters have been very vocal about getting the death penalty for the shooter.

would YOU hand your child over, knowing that the electric chair would be the likely outcome?

YANBU - I wouldn’t turn him in to die.

YABU - I would he’s a killer and deserves all he gets

CK would have been arrested for hate speech if he were in the UK. Opinion is one thing. He was riling up white supremacists.

No he wasn't

I get that but at what point would you draw the line? What if they killed someone you cared about? What if they killed a second time or a third? How many deaths would be too many for you to accept? How does it impact you to know you effectively sanctioned murder - that’s got to be a heavy burden? 🤷‍♀️ not criticising in case it comes across that way just think it’s an interesting thing to think about.

Dont get me wrong id feel immense guilt for all of it and youd inevitably get caught and have to face punishment as well. If the murder was more sadistic (ted bundy esque) or of a woman or a child id feel differently. tbh I think nobody really knows how they'd react in that situation youd be in immense shock. I just cannot imagine turning them over but realistically as others have said it might have been the safest way to keep them alive not that they have anything to live for now. Depressing all round.

Why would Trump arrange for one of his closest allies to be assassinated? Are you seriously saying he and his inner circle sat around saying 'We need a martyr. Charlie Kirk would do. People would feel really sorry for his wife and tiny children. Get the CIA onto it!' And then the CIA lines up this family, which genuinely exists and is part of a community, and gets them to agree to destroy their family and uproot their lives - for what? Money? How many people would have to be complicit in this conspiracy? This is madness. Far easier for me to accept that we live in a time where many impressionable people have become immersed in social media and have genuinely come to believe that people with certain beliefs they don't share deserve to die. It's not like this is the first case even this year.

Money? I don't think you understand how the CIA works. This will gain sympathy for the right wing. It's already happening.

The more pertinent question is why would anyone on the left do it. It hardly helps their cause.

Yes he was. The comment about 'roaming blacks targeting white women' was enough but his podcast went on for hours, as did his debates and he said things like this over and over.

wiminny · 12/09/2025 18:34

The consequences of not turning in your child after something like this are awful. Forever on the run, no witness protection program, people wondering where you are, suspicions, hunting down and eventually, Bam. Better to turn them in and as pp said, protect yourself as a parent from incarceration for being an accessory after the fact.

Anyhow, I am going to make a prediction. Either the gunman will get a show trial and very quickly be condemned to death, or he will have the same or similar fate as Epstein.

Who the heck would want to live in the USA right now? Although mission creep is happening here too. Feels to me - and I'm no expert, that the Far Right in Trump's America are doing everything they can to demonise the Democrats, most of who are moderate centrists but are painted as loony left by the Republicans. It's a dangerous game when the dictators convince everyone they are the good guys. No matter what the Democrats say now, they will be tarred with the association of things like this shooting. Of course I could be off my rocker and be totally wrong. But it's what I'm feeling right now.

smallpinecone · 12/09/2025 18:34

Funny how there’s no accountability or self responsibility on the left. It’s always someone else’s fault, and there’s always someone else to blame. They see people as weirdly childish and incapable of thinking for themselves. Someone must have ‘riled them up’…

MorningLarkEchoes · 12/09/2025 18:34

In all honesty, no, I couldn’t. I think what happened to Charlie is truly sad, and I feel deeply for his family - especially given all the cruel comments online from people gloating about his death. I also feel sympathy for the family of the murderer, who will also lose their son. He is only 22, and there’s every chance he could face the death penalty. I suspect he may have been radicalised by far-left influences online. So much focus is given to the far-right, but we need to start having a conversation about the radical far-left, who are equally as dangerous. No one deserves to die because of their beliefs.

What was he saying to 'rile' up white supremists? I honestly dont know about this, I only heard of this bloke yesterday but you know a lot about him so please tell, what did he say to warrant death?

Oh yeah sorry that black guy who was roaming around before looking for a target to murder and happened to pick the only white woman on the bus and then go on to say " I got that white woman" then basically have no news coverage until some people kicked up a fuss?
And you think talking about such an attack is racist? Really?

TeaNoSugars · 12/09/2025 18:39

I’m not sure. What if the next person he killed was a child? I’m not sure I could keep my son safe at the expense of more lives.

smallpinecone · 12/09/2025 18:40

Amazing that anyone can think that anything he said - or that anyone says, for that matter - warrants it. Words aren’t punishable by being murdered in front of your family.

Utah only has the firing squad I think. No other methods available there

Goodness, that's awful.

RingoJuice · 12/09/2025 18:41

This thread is seriously scary. People admitting they wouldn’t turn their son in, ok maybe for rape or child murder. I guess they’re fine if their daughter-in-law disappears.

Goodness, that's awful.

I think this is the most favourable method personally. I've read some true horror stories of the other methods taking too long and being particularly painful. If I were to be put to death this is the method I would choose.

I didn't say he said anything to warrant death. He said blacks patrolled the streets searching for white women to harm.

He was dangerous in my opinion. That doesn't mean I think he deserved death. Perhaps if I were black and felt extremely threatened in my own country I would though.

Septemberain25 · 12/09/2025 18:46

My gut reaction was that I wouldn't turn my son in, but reading this thread I realise it not as simple as saving your son.

The family will be hounded, and will be targets of vile abuse. The other sons would have targets on their backs if the shooter escaped. And there would be the fear that he could kill an innocent bystander or a police officer if he was on the run.

So despite the death sentence, I think I would have to turn him in. In this case, anyone who knew him would have been able to identify him, dark glasses aren't really that much of a disguise.

I hope the family change their names and ideally emigrate, the US far-right are so riled up and looking for blood over this. They want this to be their Reichstag fire.

You sound racist. That man had mental health problems. The state and their lack of mental health provision, and possibly their racism, are to blame there.

Had that man just been racist and compus mentus I would feel very differently.

I still wouldn't condone vilifying black people in the way the American right do though because that leads to violence against them.

I dont think that's anywhere almost NEARLY enough to warrant death (from any race) its only talk too! Just talk!

Perhaps if you were white and being stabbed to death in the neck while you were minding your own business you wouldn't feel that Charlie Kirk was the dangerous one
