Just that really? I hadn’t and wondering if I’m the only one. And why is it such a big story? I guess the association with trump. What would be the equivalent level of fame over here?

Yeah you can help me, you can quote the ones you're talking about.

Why - so we can get caught up in “that’s no what the person is saying blah, blah, blah.”

I’ll pass, thanks!

CaroleLandis · 12/09/2025 00:54

I have followed him for ages, he was a truly lovely man.

LOOK WHAT FLAG THEY HAD

'Ms Petersen, who is studying psychology, told The Telegraph that before the Turning Point USA event started there had been “a lot of back and forth” between a group of “strong, Left-leaning Democrats” and members of the audience.

“When he was shot, there were cheers from the balcony [behind Kirk],” she said. “It was horrific to be a part of. There was just no human empathy.” '

EveDeservesBetter · 12/09/2025 00:55

Come on people! Who ARE we if we find his opinions are reasons to excuse his murder? And don't come back with "nobody said it was ok". So many posters are referencing things he may or may not have said, most certainly taken out of context, but even if not, as reasons to accept that he was killed and that is sad for his family but....

Having said all that - I still support his right to speak freely without threat of violence and I think his murder - like the left wing Democrats shot and killed previously - is absolutely abhorrent and these kinds of political assassinations should be anathema to any decent thinking person who understands the value of free speech, democracy and the rule of law. Anyone who is dismissive of, or worse gleefully celebrating this type of brutal, shocking and very public execution, loses all moral credibility as far as I'm concerned - whether they're on the left or the right.

Well said Jamclag

OK, I'll pass on giving your opinions any weight at all, if you can't back them up.

How can you possibly say that when it's only what you've "read"?

A lot of his words have been taken out of context, if you watched full videos you'd know that,

A lot of people have been sharing quotes and headlines, that affirm their bias.

It's incredibly easy to find headlines and quotes, without context, and frame someone in a particular light.

I didn't agree with most of what he said, but the world is a bloody much worse place because of his murder, Not because his words were meaningful, but because it's ended free speech . No one will be brave enough to debate, when doing so can get you killed - and people fall over themselves trying to justify it.* *

The Iman at one of the mosques in my town has said some incredibly offensive things about women, saying they shouldn't work, that Western girls lask to be rated...should he be silenced? No, of course not,

Charlie was obviously very religious (like the Iman I mentioned), he held views that would obviously enrage. But to be slaughtered forhis views , in front of his wife, toddlers and the audience, that's not just abhorrent, but extremely worrying.

The day before he died he posted a video of Iryna Zarutska, a considered piece ( I didn't watch it all though). Another senseless killing.

I just wish words were used against words, not fists, not shouting, certainly not guns.

Edited

Debate isn’t going to end because an American man died. The US doesn’t own the concept of debates.

Death penalties should be public, should be quick, it should be televised. I think at a certain age, its an initiation...What age should you start to see public executions?"

That was a gem, wasn't it? ☹️

Saying abortion was worse than the Holocaust was another extreme one.

And how do you feel about the kids who took advantage of the chaos in the aftermath of the shooting to steal MAGA hats from a display table?

Ironically, Charlie Kirk supported what happened to Charlie Kirk.

Plenty of people are trying to justify his murder.

Apparently death is a consequence of the opinion you hold. Did you miss that?

Deaths like these are a consequence of living in the public eye. Jo Cox was arguably a polar opposite and was also assassinated at a time of high tensions.

Sorry. I don’t accept death is a consequence of living in the public eye anymore than I accept death is a consequence of holding an opinion.

And no one else should.

So a truly lovely man says that

10yo rape victims should not be allowed abortions

Putting men to death for gay sex is 'God's perfect law'

Being aactively gay is like being an alcoholic or drug addict

Abortion is worse than the Holocaust

Children should watch public executions

Men should lead in marriage

Women on the Pill are automatically 'crazy and bitter'

Is that what you believe?

BTW, if you ARE that anti-gay, it's ironic you've named yourself after an actively bisexual actress. 🤣

I hope you're right, but a few (admittedly American) commentators, have said they're cancelling events. One is Ben Shapiro (who I admit to knowing nothing about).

Having seen some of the TikTok loonies, I'd be afraid if something happening to someone like JK Rowling, although, thankfully, we don't have guns, and it seems to be American loonies who are doing the party videos.

hungryduck · 12/09/2025 01:06

One of his claims was that black Americans were better off during slavery.

I think he had the potential to be a very, very dangerous man.

Not that that's a justification for murder.

I do feel awful for his family though. His poor children will never recover from yesterday.

I don’t think there was one thing I agreed with the man on (though most things being posted about him are being presented without the relevant context) but he was as entitled to his opinion as I am, and as you are, and to not be murdered for it.

This thread is an absolute cesspit.

Anonymousemouses · 12/09/2025 01:06

ObviOusly that is horrible, although I know religious men with the same views

Vivi, can I ask if you feel there is extra context for his comments comparing gay relationships to alcoholism or drug addiction?

Or stoning gay men for sex being 'God's perfect law'?

Or abortion being worse than the Holocaust?

Or public executions being good for children to watch?

I DO agree that all these 'white supremacist' allegations are twisting a lot of what he said, as is the empathy quote and gun quote.

Underthinker · 11/09/2025 22:35

I had watched many of his short video clips that popped up on social media. In some I sided with him and in some the students he debated.

I don't doubt over his life he said a few things that qualify as genuinely awful, but I also know that in at least some of the examples cited in these threads, his words have been deliberately twisted or taken out of context to make them sound far worse than they were (because I've seen the original clips).

I am disappointed that there are people here who must be deliberately and knowingly lying to defame a recently murdered man.

Underthinker, could you say which ones have been twisted?

I think the black people quotes, the gun quote and the empathy quote have.
