Is this a shitty thing to do by DH

Do just been out for a couple of drinks in large city centre.
Almost at train station to go home.
There is a road to cross with busy traffic and trams crossing.
DH sees traffic coming and runs across leaving me and makes it to the other side and turns around and laughs because he made it and I was left at the other side of the road.
He thinks it’s highly funny I didn’t make it.
So then I have to wait to cross when it’s safe.
DH can’t see why I’m upset. But to me it’s not caring. Not seeing if I cross safely.
To me he should’ve waited until I crossed safely not dash across and laugh at me.
For context also I had a nasty fall crossing a road once which he is aware of how long it took me to recover.

It's not that we need our hands holding to cross the road, it's the fact that our partners care enough about us to ensure nothing happens to us. That's what most women like, a caring loving partner!

No, most women don’t like having someone who treats them like a toddler.

PollyBell · 08/09/2025 06:59

Laughing is odd but you are a grown up I dont see why you need a chaperone to cross the road being female doesn't make you less capable

And OP enough to drink to get upset at a non/minor event ...

Agreed! It’s all very silly.

If it was a colleague I'd of said that.... and who needs to cross roads with someone they work with? 😅. I meant more of if I'm with a friend and they want to cross before we reach a crossing... and did I say cling or did I say hold? There's a big difference so please do t twist what I'm saying to suit your weird narrative so you can try to shame me

I'm autistic so your not going to make me feel embarrassed or ashamed for having a fear of being run over 🤷‍♀️. I'm not embarrassed that I am careful when I cross roads

You can only be 'shamed' if you feel something to have shame for. You yourself said l hate crossing roads unless there's a green man. It really really stresses me out. I hold onto their arms because I'm so frightened' which doesn't sound a calm road cross.

Yes , going as far as calling OPS husband an asshole is a bit of a ridiculous thing to say …

Don’t drip feed then get offended when people comment not knowing the all the facts!

Could be. Or may just what we are attracted to. I’m (unfortunately 😂😭) about to turn 40.
Even though I am definitely very capable of doing just about anything I put my mind to, I do find “manly” men more attractive. To be honest a Viking would be perfect for me 🤣

See, I’m only a few years younger and don’t see this behaviour as manly - I see it as patronising and infantilising 🫣

I’m 53 and I can’t think of a single woman I know who wouldn’t ask a man who kept pointing out steps or tree roots and trying to under them across the road whether he had something serious wrong with him.

That's pretty sad to have the view that if your partner cares about you and holds your hand crossing the road he is treating you like a toddler!
Maybe you should allow someone to show they care instead of being so defensive and negative towards an innocent act of genuine care. That's if you have a partner and havnt scared them off with your negative attitude 🤔

If you like being treated as though you are helpless, knock yourself out.

Personally, someone showing me they ‘care’ can do so via treating me like an adult who is able to cross the road safely.

What next, toddler reins? Because he ‘cares’?

It’s not sad to hold that view at all. Adult women are no less capable of crossing the road than men. There are countless ways a man can show he cares for a woman without helping her cross the road like a lollipop man/lady.

My husband shows he cares by treating me like a functioning adult who doesn’t need to be coddled and told how to cross a road or walk down a path!

Wildefish · 08/09/2025 11:23

If this is your only concern move on. It wasn’t nice, but a few drinks and men think they’re funny. However, if this is a theme address it.

But even if I wasn't autistic and was a neurotypical person, would it be okay to sneer at me then?

I know 😅 thats why i said im not ashamed. Also doesn't sound like someone clinging onto someone does it 🤦‍♀️ . It paints a completely different situation to what I said

You were sneery and rude and that's that 😅

Who is sneering?

Honestly, this reads as though you're looking for a reason to argue. Perhaps start your own thread and refrain from derailing this one.

Properjob · 08/09/2025 17:28

Would you do this to a friend or family member whom you were walking with? No? Then why do it to the person who is supposed to be your life partner. And then LAUGH?
I've always told my partners this indicates to me that you're a selfish s**t. Its a massive ick and probably shows that 'he's just not that into you'.
Boor.

Genuine question though, how do you manage? Walking my child to school I have to cross 4:roads and only one (the one by his school) has a crossing so what do you do in that situation? I live in a city, and still wound struggle to find a green man to cross most roads.

Your post clearly implies the whole thing was a practical joke. That didn't happen.

He just saw a gap and crossed the road, and she didn't.

Ah ok, absolutley wasn't a joke, nothing jokey about it. Other than the turning round and laughing at her bit.

We have about 4 streets from our house to school, but each street has houses on both sides and speed bumps in the road, I'm fine with those little roads because it's just little roads to cross with minimal traffic and if a car does come it's slow....

Its main roads i struggle with, cars come so fast I dare not risk it without a green man. I live in a really good spot where our local asda is only one road away and the school is only 4.

The poster I origally replied to? It's not derailing if I'm replying to another poster replying to me 🤦‍♀️

It was a genuine question. Why would someone have to inform people they are autistic so people arnt rude to them? Surely people just shouldn't be rude?

how very weird to involve yourself in another person's conversation and then accuse one of derailing....

Well he's a dick on2 counts. He has to still wait for you, and he's not understanding your trauma.
