Woman shouted because Dd wee’d in the car park

1000 replies

Hetoldherthatmagicdoesntexist · 05/09/2025 21:56

Dd, 6 and I were at the supermarket today
We were in a rush, had walked all the way back to car, I was struggling with three large bags, putting them in the boot.
Dd was moaning and difficult most of the day, she said she was desperate for the toilet. I said to just wait a moment as I had to put the bags in etc and we’d go back. She started getting upset saying she was really desperate and about to wee and could she wee by our car quickly. I let her.
As I was fastening her car seat, an older woman walked past and shouted’There are loos inside you know!’ in not a very nice way. I shouted back ‘Excuse me?’ She said she was just saying there were loos inside that can be used (again, it wasn’t said in a nice way’ I said to her ‘She’s 6 years and was desperate and couldn’t hold it in, she’s 6!’ She pulled a face and got in her car.
Dd was upset and asked if she’d done something wrong and felt scared of the mean lady.

It really pissed me off, was I out of order??

Oh come on, that's completely different.

What if the person doing the poo said they were desperate and if they didn't do it in the carpark it would go in their pants? Would it be ok then?

"but would have a problem with a man weeing in public. I have been known to wee in fields when walking my dog"

So you are both a misandrist and a hypocrite😂

Misandrist, jesus wept.

The floor is definitely already dirty, fully agree with that. If we want to live in a civilised society we just can't have the attitude of 'that's fine because it's dirty anyway' when it comes to public hygiene. Otherwise we could say that about anything....spitting, adults urinating, not picking up their dog's poo, spitting chewing gum out, dropping fag ends, littering....it's dirty already right why can't I do all those things?!

Because we don't want to live like that. No-one wants the carpark at Tesco to be a toilet and this is why Tesco provides toilets! As the lady quite rightly pointed out.

If someone is flagrantly behaving in an unacceptable way (which urinating in a car park is) then they SHOULD feel uncomfortable. We all make mistakes of course, but you should feel bad about it and try not to do it again, not be outraged that someone pointed out your unacceptable behaviour. The OP was wrong twice. First when she let her child use the car park as a toilet and then again when she objected to the woman pointing out that there were facilities inside that she should be using.

Absolutely 100% this apart from I’d say OP was wrong 3 times as I’d add posting on here expecting to get a wave of support and empathy for her lazy parenting skills!
also the idea that the lady pulling the OP up in this bad behaviour compares with pissing in public is laughable!!
What a bunch of snowflakes 16% of the people voting here are!

"You did the right thing as a mother standing up for your daughter. The older woman should really have turned a blind eye to something so innocent."

Really? The older woman was not criticising the daughter....

Exactly, op is using the child for sympathy when it’s her that was chastised for allowing the bad behaviour!
If the woman laid into the child that would be wrong but she addressed it with the adult supervising the bad behavior!

HRTQueen · 06/09/2025 13:01

Who could be bothered to be annoyed about a young child peeing in a carpark 🙄

a lesson learnt for your dd that some people are uptight busy bodies

How the fuck is a 6 year old not a small child? SIX?? People are fucking at it when they say shit like that. They're not adults are they, they're not even big kids. They're little children who will get things wrong and make mistakes and misjudge things and so will adults. Every single day of life.

And this is where things have got completely utterly skewered in recent years. Six is a primary school attending child.
Not a baby.
But as has been said repeatedly, nobody is blaming the child

Dogs wee and poop every where and nobody says a word , a child caught short gets a lecture ….

Dog’s can’t use a toilet, HTH.

Who cares. Laughing my fucking arse off at the snotty comments on this thread. There is 38 pages of outrage over a child pissing that's sad.

Carry a potty in car. See Dr. One of those things and not the end of the world but unpopular.

Hetoldherthatmagicdoesntexist · 05/09/2025 22:02

Small children is a completely different thing surely?!

She’s 6!!! She’s not a toddler learning her wee signals!

I think you need to be checking in with her more often about needing the toilet, she needs to learn to ask to go before she’s “desperate”.

Does she piss herself at school? Do they mention it being a problem?
If she can’t tell the feeling, then she needs medical advice and help.

She is too old to be peeing in car parks in full view of who knows who.

housemaus · 06/09/2025 13:07

At 6 she shouldn't be weeing in carparks, no. If it was a tiny kid still in nappies, sure - they're not fully potty trained. But 6 year olds go to school. Would you think it was appropriate that she was desperate and pissing in the school playground? Sounds like you have some issues with her potty training. But regardless - no, she wasn't wrong, and I'd have been equally unimpressed to see a kid of her age pissing in a public carpark.

I think it was a terrible thing when Margaret Thatcher closed down all the mental hospitals. People are walking around talking nonsense now.

Nobody said she was a “baby”, they said she was a “small child” which she is! Small children at ten primary school it starts at aged 4!

I’ve noticed this more & more on the internet people being triggered by young primary school children being described as “young” or “small”. I think if people are that triggered by a young child being described as a young child there is one thing behind that. Either 1) they miss their own children being young so are dismissive of others peoples children to deal with that emotion, or 2) they have babies/toddlers and a 6 year seems like a giant whereas in reality they are only a few years older. Or something similar. Why people feel they have a right to decide when other peoples children shouldn’t be in a cot, buggy etc when it doesn’t impact them is beyond me.

I get that she’s not a potty training child but it’s hardly that big a deal to describe a 6 year old as a “small child”.

Well, if we all decide to crap and wee in public car parks, then the best times really have been and gone. Who wants a society where people are shamelessly urinating and defecating everywhere?

This is the problem. A 6 year old child went for a wee in a car park once in specific circumstances. Yes, her mother was at fault to a point but it hardly merits this absolute witch hunt.

Because that’s where it starts!! One 6 year old had a wee once in a car park. Public disorder is inevitable.

Public inquiry £10 million should do it. Of course, the GPs will need extra funding as well to cope with all the parents running to them at the drop of a hat about small kids wetting themselves.

starfishmummy · 06/09/2025 13:22

"I’m really shocked, she’s still quite little and cannot hold it when it gets to this stage"

That makes it sound like she frequently gets to the point of not being able to hold it in. As you say yourself she's still quite little so maybe she needs some reminding to go at appropriate times? And as you were in a rush perhaps she didn't have the opportunity?

Drunks do it dogs do it cats do it.
If you gotta go you gotta go.
Im almost 40 and ive parked my arse behind a bush more than once.
MN is a bitch pit all these comments over a kid taking a piss.

Apocketfilledwithposies · 06/09/2025 13:31

I have a six year old. I wouldn't let them wee in a shop carpark and they wouldn't dream of asking to! I can't imagine their school friends doing so either. 😳

If at six they can't hold their wee for long, then I'd suggest you need to be more proactive about making them go to the loo at opportune times to pre-empt them weeing in public.

Buckle up OP. Mumsnet hates this sort of thing. (Personally I couldn’t give a toss).

Most balanced folk wouldn't give a toss either about this. They also wouldn't feel entitled to be rude. If you want decent advice don't use this forum. It's notorious for being den of witches!
