Woman shouted because Dd wee’d in the car park

1000 replies

Hetoldherthatmagicdoesntexist · 05/09/2025 21:56

Dd, 6 and I were at the supermarket today
We were in a rush, had walked all the way back to car, I was struggling with three large bags, putting them in the boot.
Dd was moaning and difficult most of the day, she said she was desperate for the toilet. I said to just wait a moment as I had to put the bags in etc and we’d go back. She started getting upset saying she was really desperate and about to wee and could she wee by our car quickly. I let her.
As I was fastening her car seat, an older woman walked past and shouted’There are loos inside you know!’ in not a very nice way. I shouted back ‘Excuse me?’ She said she was just saying there were loos inside that can be used (again, it wasn’t said in a nice way’ I said to her ‘She’s 6 years and was desperate and couldn’t hold it in, she’s 6!’ She pulled a face and got in her car.
Dd was upset and asked if she’d done something wrong and felt scared of the mean lady.

It really pissed me off, was I out of order??

Wouldn’t bother me at all as it’s just wee. It will wash away when it rains. Little kids that age are still learning to manage their bowels and supermarket toilets aren’t particularly pleasant places even when you’re desperate.

I’m far more bothered by folk that don’t pick up after their dogs, to be honest.

Ignore the busybody woman. Her opinion is irrelevant. 🤷🏻‍♀️

ALunchbox · 06/09/2025 12:22

It doesn't particularly shock me that she weed in the car park but do you think she might have some health issue if we can't wait a couple of minutes at that age?

ALunchbox · 06/09/2025 12:22

*if she

Could you point me to where anyone suggested this could become a trend? Why would all children start doing it?

Well if everyone thinks that it’s ok to do it once in a while, given the traffic there will be a lot of kids doing it everyday.

regardless, I understand that things happen but as I said you should be sheepish and apologetic and not shout back, when you are in the wrong

MrsDoubtfire1 · 06/09/2025 12:25

You did the right thing as a mother standing up for your daughter. The older woman should really have turned a blind eye to something so innocent. At least it saved your daughter the embarrassment of weeing while walking or on the car seat. The fact that she became very unsettled was proof in itself that she was upset and conscious of doing the right thing. We used to leave the car door open and our child would wee behind the door while we held it. This was on motorways!

ruethewhirl · 06/09/2025 12:25

Sorry, no, that's grim OP. Although you seem certain you didn't do anything wrong, so I'm not sure why you posted the thread really.

If the problem this time was that she didn't tell you she needed the loo till she was on the verge of wetting herself, a conversation is needed so that hopefully in future she remembers to go when she's near a toilet.

Are most people objecting because of the wee on the floor or the slight lack of dignity? I can understand the latter I suppose but dogs and other animals wee everywhere...even on your car wheels!! Imagine that!

I think most people have different standards for what is socially acceptable for humans and animals. So, whilst
It is ok for a dog or fox or bird to urinate and defecate as and when, we expect human beings to use provided facilities. It's a fundamental part of social structure: animals and humans are different.

ShamedAndsincere · 06/09/2025 12:35

I hope all of you absolutely slamming the OP and telling her to take her child to a GP because she was caught short don’t have dogs that piss all over the place, or cats roaming free pissing and shitting in people’s gardens and all over their cars.

The OP’s child won’t be going on a walk pissing up walls everywhere like most “fur babies” do. It’s an accident, kids aren’t robots.

No3392 · 06/09/2025 12:36

Genuinely wouldn't care.

It's a kid having a pee.

TwinklySaturn · 06/09/2025 12:37

Was it an outdoor or indoor (parking garage) car park?

If outdoors, away from other cars, by bushes etc I could sort of get it, but if an indoor car park I can't imagine anyone would say you were being reasonable, that's really rank.

Also 6 is not a small child.

Was just about to post almost exactly the same thing!

Yes I know. As you say though, it's subjective so there's not much point to the post really. It's just that to me, logically, it makes no sense when the floor is dirty anyway. And also in my opinion, it's far less socially acceptable and very poor etiquette to be unpleasant to someone and make them feel uncomfortable. Hence why I tend to comment on this type of thread in order to make the OP feel a bit better.

OneWildBiscuit · 06/09/2025 12:42

So if you saw someone taking a dump in the local Tesco carpark, you'd think that was fine?

Err, no.

BlakeCarrington · 06/09/2025 12:42

Hetoldherthatmagicdoesntexist · 05/09/2025 22:01

She was mean, she had no idea of our circumstances and it was none of her business

Yes it was her business because she had to watch your dd pissing in a carpark which is pretty grim. She’s not a toddler.

howaboutchocolate · 06/09/2025 12:42

I don't see any difference between letting a young child wee in a car park and them having an accident in the car park en route to the toilet. It sounds like those were the two options available. Really what is the difference, other than not having to strip her down and change her after an accident? There's still wee going on the ground and it's no big deal.

IAmQuiteNiceActually · 06/09/2025 12:43

Oh come on, that's completely different.

Goodadvice1980 · 06/09/2025 12:43

Unless there’s a medical issue YABU.

Poobearflower · 06/09/2025 12:47

I would not let my autistic 4 year old piss in a Car park. There is no excuse.either get some nappies for older children or go in the shop.

ChampagneLassie · 06/09/2025 12:49

Jez and there I was explaining to my 3 year old why we see grown men peeing in public yet a 6 yr old and her mother are being shamed? @Hetoldherthatmagicdoesntexist the alternative was she wet herself, still seeing on the ground. She’s 6, it’s ok 🤗

The floor is definitely already dirty, fully agree with that. If we want to live in a civilised society we just can't have the attitude of 'that's fine because it's dirty anyway' when it comes to public hygiene. Otherwise we could say that about anything....spitting, adults urinating, not picking up their dog's poo, spitting chewing gum out, dropping fag ends, littering....it's dirty already right why can't I do all those things?!

Because we don't want to live like that. No-one wants the carpark at Tesco to be a toilet and this is why Tesco provides toilets! As the lady quite rightly pointed out.

If someone is flagrantly behaving in an unacceptable way (which urinating in a car park is) then they SHOULD feel uncomfortable. We all make mistakes of course, but you should feel bad about it and try not to do it again, not be outraged that someone pointed out your unacceptable behaviour. The OP was wrong twice. First when she let her child use the car park as a toilet and then again when she objected to the woman pointing out that there were facilities inside that she should be using.

Walkden · 06/09/2025 12:51

"You did the right thing as a mother standing up for your daughter. The older woman should really have turned a blind eye to something so innocent."

Really? The older woman was not criticising the daughter....

I have no problem with young children weeing in car parks but would have a problem with a man weeing in public. I have been known to wee in fields when walking my dog and I’m sure some of those showing outrage on this thread probably have too.

I think you are not being unreasonable at all.

A field is not a supermarket car park is it, one where toilets are available.
I’m hoping your pissing in public is confined to when a public toilet isn’t close by, otherwise that makes you as vile as the OP

Walkden · 06/09/2025 12:53

"but would have a problem with a man weeing in public. I have been known to wee in fields when walking my dog"

So you are both a misandrist and a hypocrite😂

watermybegonias · 06/09/2025 12:53

Once I had finished sniggering at your unfortunate choice of words (pissed off) all I could think is why you didn’t take her to the toilet before you left the store? And don’t say it was because you had a trolley full of shopping. You could have checked the loos, then waited outside the door for her. Although if you consider her to be a young/small child for whom it is totally acceptable and appropriate to allow to wee in a car park, I should think letting her use a Big Girl’s toilet by herself must seem impossible to you.

usedtobeaylis · 06/09/2025 12:54

How the fuck is a 6 year old not a small child? SIX?? People are fucking at it when they say shit like that. They're not adults are they, they're not even big kids. They're little children who will get things wrong and make mistakes and misjudge things and so will adults. Every single day of life.
