The man I’m dating doesn’t wash his hands after using the toilet

The man I've been seeing for the past few months has started staying at my house more often lately. My house isn't big, and the bathroom is right next to my bedroom, so you can hear the tap running. He was over this weekend, and I noticed a few times that he didn't wash his hands after using the toilet. I brought it up to him, thinking he just didn't realise, but he insisted he didn't need to and that it's different for men. I told him, "You're still touching the toilet seat etc," and even showed him a screenshot from Google.

He was pretty firm about not needing to wash his hands, so I just said, "Please do it while you're at my house since you're touching me and my stuff afterwards," and he agreed to that. I know he won’t be doing it whilst he’s at home or out and about though.

I’m not sure if it’s dump worthy, but it is a little grim, yes? He genuinely doesn’t think he needs to.

It's different for men? Why? If anything it's worse.

I don't touch my vulva/vagina with my hand when I use the toilet. I touch it with paper. He probably doesn't even wipe his dick.

Why on earth didn't he just say, oh, my bad, I forgot. Then just go back and do it. The fact he tried to argue it was reasonable not to is a stackable offence.

It's because they believe the mysoginistic trope that women and their vaginas are smelly and dirty. Whereas their holy penises and clean and god-like. 🙄

AzureCats · 01/09/2025 13:33

I meant sacred penises above. Their penises are literally holey 😂

Arlanymor · 01/09/2025 13:38

Total dealbreaker. I have never been in a relationship with anyone who doesn't practice basic hygiene - including washing their hands after going to the toilet.

SomethingFun · 01/09/2025 13:38

🤢 whatever you do, don’t seductively suck his bin-gers 🤢

NoSuchThingAsAFreeHoliday · 01/09/2025 13:40

Dump (no pun intended)

Yeah. Fucking dickhead. Dirty fucker.

I think most men don’t wash their hands after using the toilet.

OH and I were on a cruise recently

She was very surprised how many women didn't wash their hands after using the loo

OTOH practically every bloke I saw did.

Bobnobob · 01/09/2025 13:46

‘different for men’? They actually hold their penis when going to the toilet so surely if anyone is going to skip handwashing it would be women? Disgusting hygiene aside I would dump for that appalling logic.

I've just Googled "temple garments".
The mind boggles.

I did the same, and I'm afraid they'd have given me the ick even before I knew about the handwashing!

Dweetfidilove · 01/09/2025 13:50

He's told you he doesn't to. You don't think it's dump worthy. Just carry on...

Katheclepto · 01/09/2025 13:57

Rank!
Not only is he touching the toilet seat, he’s touched his penis and then other stuff … ewww!!

Is this poos and wees? Wees I wouldn’t care, but….

Really? Doesn’t matter which it is, no. 1 or 2, wash hands or dump him. Throw this one back OP, will only get worse.

Fionasapples · 01/09/2025 14:07

It's disgusting. Parents of young children should always teach them to wash their hands but surely at some point the boys are old enough to realise they should wash afterwards.
My SIL and BIL were very lax with their two boys about toilet manners, with the result that they didn't flush, wash hands and they invariably weed all over the back of the toilet and the floor. If they were at our house I used to say I hadn't heard the flush or the tap running and I hoped they didn't wee on the floor like last time. SIL used to look embarrassed but it didn't do any good!

Aroundthefirepit · 01/09/2025 14:08

Wash your hands of him if it really gives you the ick :)

VoltaireMittyDream · 01/09/2025 14:08

I can't get my head round why he should think it's different for men. Surely they are actually handling their genitalia with their bare hands when they wee, whereas women aren't? That failure of logic alone would put me off him.

YorkshirePuddingsGreatestFan · 01/09/2025 14:17

Deal breaker for me.

I was seeing someone and developed thrush a couple of days after sex. I just put it down to one of those things, bought some Canesten and told him to keep an eye on his bits.

It cleared up, we had sex again and the thrush came back. More Canesten and I asked him if he was sure he was ok and he was adamant he was fine.

When it cleared up, we had sex again and yep you guessed it, I got thrush. I said it must be coming from him but he was certain it wasn't as men don't get thrush. I told him they do. I showed him online and I even bought him a treatment from the chemist to try but he refused to use it as men can't get thrush.

We ended up having an argument as I said I wasn't having sex with him until he took the treatment and he refused to take it as men can't get thrush and said I was overreacting.

Dumped him and felt so sorry for the next unfortunate women he stuck his manky thrush riddled penis in.

polkadothorse · 01/09/2025 14:19

He’s disgusting.

mathanxiety · 01/09/2025 14:21

I voted YABU because you should have out an end to the relationship as soon as you realised he was a pig, amd especially when he objected to your reminder of civilised habits.

I imagine his own home would be a very interesting sight indeed if you were to walk around it with a black light.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 01/09/2025 14:23

I work in construction, we have toilets in the upstairs cabins right next to the offices...I'd say out of the 10 men currently on site today, 2 have washed their hands before coming out. And yes, you can hear everything!

mathanxiety · 01/09/2025 14:24

TomatoSandwiches · 01/09/2025 13:28

YABU to reward a filthy adult male with no decent standards of personal hygine and one who actually argues against your perfectly reasonable expectations with continued access to your body in a romantic relationship.

The more often we just ignore these vile habits and stay with them the more likely they will just continue to be dirty bastards.... there's no consequences at all, are there.

Agree!

Midnightlove · 01/09/2025 14:24

Luckily my husband is very good with hamd hygiene.. I have emetophobia and germ issues so would be a total deal breaker for me. He constantly comments on men leaving public bathrooms and not washing their hands, even after doing a poo.. it's bad enough at home, but a public bathroom with God knows how many germs in it 🤮

somethingnewandexciting · 01/09/2025 14:28

On a par with nose picking for me.
Bet he'd hand out pizza slices happily too.

PrincessofWells · 01/09/2025 14:28

Bye . . .

somethingnewandexciting · 01/09/2025 14:32

I did wonder in covid times if the constant hand washing requirements were why some men decided to become anti-vaxxers. It's as though it's a personal affront for them to use personal hygiene in any way, let alone protecting OTHER PEOPLE!

Brainstorm23 · 01/09/2025 14:51

Is he one of those men who gets their facts on Facebook and doesn't believe in conventional science?
