DP embarrasing me over periods

Bluebirdies · 28/08/2025 16:13

I’m 30 I know I shouldn’t exactly be embarrassed by them (and deep down I’m not) but this is how DP is making me feel.

I was having really bad stomach cramps last night. He was asking me what was wrong and I told him and he pulled a disgusted face. Then this morning I had come on and he said “eww”

When he says these things, I do pull him up on them but he says he’s joking but they aren’t funny to me. For a while now I have been trying to make out what this means. Is it just something he’s grossed out by? Or is it an example of not really caring about me? I can’t work it out

OP posts:

You just need to call it out each time it happens:

  • Are you intentionally trying to embarrass me
  • Something has to be funny for it to be a joke
  • Do you want your future DD to be treated like this in the future
  • Did you not get taught about Biology at school, do you need to educate yourself now?

Excellent!

It's not clear how long OP and her DP have been together but I wouldn't tolerate this nonsense. It's childish and ridiculous. Typically when challenged he says it's a joke. Very unattractive.

I really could not be with someone so stupid and immature.

That's not a man, on any level.

This ^

arethereanyleftatall · 28/08/2025 17:26

dump him, then do not date ANYONE until you have some confidence and understanding of your value. I assume your background has resulted in your not realising that comments like this show how immature and what a misogynist he is. You deserve so so much more op.

BlueyGreyWhale · 28/08/2025 17:27

I have to say the only men ive been with in my past who were completely nonchalant about periods- both of them were medical doctors.

I dont know why men are so childish in general

MyLimeGuide · 28/08/2025 17:28

My brother (who grew up with 3 sisters) makes rude jokes about it to us, it is quite funny tbh! But i think a partner doing it crosses the line.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 28/08/2025 17:28

Fucking weirdo.Dh went and got me tampons 2 months into our relationship when I came on unexpectedly without batting an eyelid.Has he no sisters, mum, female friends?

tumblingdowntherabbithole · 28/08/2025 17:29

My boyfriend at 16 was more mature than your adult partner.

pinkfondu · 28/08/2025 17:29

He’s a child

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 28/08/2025 17:30

Is he 14?

JLou08 · 28/08/2025 17:30

I have a similar reaction when someone has a nose bleed or blood tests. Some people are grossed out by blood. I wouldn't take it personally.

You can be grossed out by blood without telling your partner they're disgusting.

Augarden · 28/08/2025 17:31

Why was he disgusted instead of giving you sympathy when you're in pain?

Haribosweets · 28/08/2025 17:32

Mine is the same and if I moan about them he tells me I should be used to them as I have had them every month for 35 years!
TBH it doesn't bother me. He wouldn't get me any pads etc. Suppose just what I'm used too!
I wouldn't be leaving him because of it though

Galatine · 28/08/2025 17:34

He sounds like a twelve year old school boy. He needs to man up!

BauhausOfEliott · 28/08/2025 17:34

Are you in a relationship with a 12-year-old school bully who watches Andrew Tate on TikTok? Because this is incredibly immature, misogynistic behaviour from a grown man.

Ironic that he's revolted by periods, because I'm revolted by men who behave like whiny little boys. I couldn't find a man attractive if he was this much of a baby. I'd have dumped him the first time it happened!

In that case it’s you who needs to be apologetic, not them!

Lovelife85 · 28/08/2025 17:36

What is it with some men? My hubby tells me that my Always products stink the house out.Men can be some immature!!

Plastictreees · 28/08/2025 17:37

What a pathetic man baby.

Bin.

She's literally just saying the word 'period', not standing there dripping blood down her legs in front of him. If he's scared of blood, that's his problem and he can keep quiet about it instead of expressing disgust like a fucking whining baby.

I bet he doesn't say 'Eww' and 'Gross' if one of his mates gets a bloody nose in a fight.

She’s not showing him her period blood. She’s literally just saying the word period.

Kudos to you for having a 17-year-old toy boy. That’s the only explanation for his childishness.

Brilliant response and so true…. He’s a complete tosser x

Bodyshopdewberry · 28/08/2025 17:40

I'd sit him down with a book for 8 year olds that explains what periods are. I bet he doesn't actually know. He is probably one of those men who thinks you can control the flow.

This doesnt even make sense, they don't smell? Your 'hubby' is a child.

EvelynBeatrice · 28/08/2025 17:41

Smile at him next time he makes such a remark in a kindly concerned manner. Ask him very gently if there’s something he needs to tell you. Ask him if he’d really prefer to be with a man.
If he demurs, say well it’s really quite odd behaviour for a straight mature man to be so disgusted by the ordinary biological functions of females. It makes you wonder if he’s not a bit odd and misogynistic and of course he should never have children as that is really quite a gory female biological experience.
