AIBU to ask about this whole ‘painting flags on roundabouts’ thing?

England flags have appeared all over my nice town, painted on to the mini roundabouts. What kind of a ‘thing’ is this? Is it a Reform thing, a football thing or a ‘proud to be English’ thing?
If it’s a reform thing, WIBU to go down and add “England welcomes you to our country” to all the red crosses?

We've got them here too. I was thinking of additions I could make... When I looked it up the claim is that it's a national pride thing rather than anti immigration but it's all a muddle imo the English flag is tainted unfortunately.

It’s a “you’re not welcome here if you’re not white” thing sadly - union jacks everywhere here, although all flying at half mast because presumably they didn’t have ladders tall enough 🙄. Makes it look like someone has died!

It's so tacky. The culture in the UK has never been fetishistic about the flag. It's more about ceremony and order. There has never been a time when everyone flew the st George's cross on their houses like people do with the stars abd stripes in the US. It's just never been the done thing here. No one 'took it away' from us.. it's not under threat. It's just always been thought of as OTT. Cause we are a very old country and an island.. what's the point?

Its a lot of brainless idiots jumping on a bandwagon started by Tommy Robinson's right hand man and supporter. They're basically using patriotism as a cloak for hatred.

It is because in Birmingham the uk/ English flag was removed and deemed offensive whilst flags for other non uk countries were allowed. Being on the dragon!

Just ignore them and they'll get bored and go away. There's already more counter protesters on the demos, it's going nowhere.

HOPE not hate can reveal that the co-founder and organiser of the group is longtime Stephen Lennon (AKA Tommy Robinson) ally Andrew Currien (AKA Andy Saxon). Formerly a key member of the English Defence League’s leadership bodyguard team, and now running security for the far-right party Britain First, Currien has previously been jailed for his part in a racist death. He was one of six men convicted in 2009 after a 59-year-old man was crushed to death by a car following a violent brawl.

Again, there is nothing wrong with raising the Union Jack or cross of St George. Despite what people claim on social media, it’s not illegal to be proud to be English or British! It’s also true that not everyone who has raised a flag is far right. But the fact that much of this wave of activism is being organised by well-known racists and extremists does raise questions about the motivations behind much of Operation Raise the Colours.

I read online that some councils had taken down the flags from lamp posts etc citing safety issues. This then lead to the roundabouts being painted. But yes, basically ignorant racists doing it.

I've not seen this, but I'm wondering why highland cow stuff is everywhere atm.

Me too. There was a massive highland cow on top of the walkers crisps in the Spar shop. I couldn’t make the connection.

Harmless enough and it makes a bit of a change from Palestine and pride flags.
