And why you loved it so much

Anywhere with soundproofed rooms.

I find I always sleep very well in a Best Western for that reason. Unfortunately they're a bit characterless, but I'm willing to sacrifice that for a good night's kip.

The Witchery in Edinburgh, Scotland. We stayed in the Library Suite (which I loved as a writer) which even included a book case where the door turned into the bathroom on the other side!

Everything from the breakfast to the room itself was incredible. Matt Groening and Kate Moss has also once stayed in the room which was cool.

The Wynn, Las Vegas.
The Fairmont, St Andrews
Claridges, London
The Royal Horse Guards, London

LadyRoughDiamond · 24/08/2025 21:07

Have travelled a lot, but my fave is the Hilton on Lake Como. Only a 4 Star, but has a rooftop infinity pool and bar with views of the mountains.

bluesky · 24/08/2025 21:07

The Datai, Langkawi
Baros, Maldives
Four Seasons, Cairo

HappyGirlNow · 24/08/2025 21:08

Gleneagles or The Four Seasons, Geneva.

I love hotels too…

The best I’ve ever stayed in is probably hotel Torridon in Scotland
the view and food at The 3 chimneys on Skye were good
I used to like One Aldwych but haven’t been for ages

On my list are The Savoy & Claridges

Whichwitchwould · 24/08/2025 21:08

Ashford Castle, Co Mayo. So much character and the service was amazing

localhere · 24/08/2025 21:11

The Hotel Chelsea in NY. Gloriously ramshackle in the best Manhattan style and scene of many great adventures. And then close second is Chateau Rhianfa on Anglesey. Stunning and quirky, the food in the restaurant was top notch.

‘you and me’

Uthurumaafaru, Ungoofaaru - Maldives

beautiful hotel - our room over the water was amazing with a water slide directly in the sea. Massive bed - comfortable and beautifully decorated

biggest bathroom you’ve ever seen - luxury toiletries all provided

Beautiful food and drink with lovely staff that were so friendly and helpful.

Totally spoilt us and was such a special stay

amicisimma · 24/08/2025 21:14

George III, Penmaenpool.

Best of all, Eremo Gaudio at Varenna on Lake Como. Sadly closed now. It was in an old monastery and the rooms were spread up the mountainside, connected by a glass funicular.

Las Casas de la Juderia in Seville.

So full of character and an oasis in the centre of a busy city.

Omg that's exactly what I thought when I saw the OP! So beautiful! All the courtyards!

catsareace · 24/08/2025 21:23

Berber Lodge Morocco - just perfect in every way

FeatheryFlorence · 24/08/2025 21:23

The American Colony hotel in Jerusalem.

yodaforpresident · 24/08/2025 21:28

Too hard to choose just one as I loved them all for different reasons and some have already been mentioned on here,

La Residence Hue - stunning art deco architecture on the Perfume river

Metropole Hanoi - luxurious and who doesn’t love a chocolate cafe

Waldorf Orlando - can’t be beaten for service and fantastic suites for a break from Mickey

Bovey Castle Dartmoor - landscape and the only place I’ve ever seen an owl on reception

Shangri-La Al Husn Muscat - total relaxation

Royal Crescent Bath - great for a city break and they were fantastic with DD

Wawona Yosemite - natural beauty and so peaceful

Stillwinston · 24/08/2025 21:35

Adare Manor
Gleneagles
The Machrie

DaisyChain505 · 24/08/2025 21:36

Xcaret Arte in Mexico. Absolutely out of this world, mind blowingly beautiful.

Pregnancyquestion · 24/08/2025 21:40

Akumal bay beach and wellness resort in Mexico. It was 5* and really lovely but not over the top luxe or overly tacky and it’s right on the beach, every room has a beach view and there’s so many restaurants and you could have unlimited bookings. It was just so beautiful and the turtles lay their eggs on their beaches and we saw them hatch

Watching with interest, lots of hotel name dropping but not enough about why it was so amazing

Claridge's in London is the best ever. Amazing service.

Plus The Imperial, New Delhi - an immaculate glimpse of the old Raj.
Jade Mountain - bonkers luxury, with the 4th wall missing in your room, and a swimming pool instead!
The Riva, Konstanz in Germany - smart, comfortable, relaxing. Everything you could want on a holiday.

Claridge's and The Imperial are my two favourites too. Classically elegant and the service is outstanding without being overbearing, a tricky balance to achieve.

I'm bookmarking your other recommendations because we obviously have similar tastes!
