Las Casas de la Juderia in Seville.

So full of character and an oasis in the centre of a busy city.

Wow, someone else who stayed there and loved it! Such a lovely spot and the courtyards and the big carriage in the entryway. It was just so different. Mind you, I felt I needed a ladder to get into the bed it was so high lol 😊

Edited to say that I was in the sister hotel in Cordoba, not Seville lol. But it was fabulous, as I'm sure the sister hotel in Seville is also.

Hotel das Cataratas, Iguazu Falls, Brazil. You could walk across the road to the falls early in the morning and enjoy the falls before the crowds came.

I agree that the setting is absolutely stunning.

The hotel itself is expensively understated.

Grand Hotel Amrath, Amsterdam. Stunning art deco ex shipping offices.
Titanic Hotel, Belfast
Lindeth Howe, Bowness on Windermere
Hotel des Alpes, Luzern. Not that fancy but stunning location.

Hwange Safari Lodge in Zimbabwe - being able to watch elephants

Chobe Safari Lodge (can’t remember the country) - being able to watch elephants

A tented lodge in the Okavango in Botswana - one of the most stunning places in the world. Lions walked through the camp one night and the trees were alive with animals screaming. Hyenas used to eat our soap in our outdoor bathrooms.

LlynTegid · 25/08/2025 10:48

Portmeirion. Lovely to walk around in the evening when day visitors have gone.

coravantexel · 25/08/2025 10:55

The Hotel Grand Ambasciatore in Sorrento. We went there on our honeymoon and it was exquisite.

Also the Windermere Estate in India, which is up in the hills and surrounded by the most incredible nature and wildlife.

Dabberlocks · 25/08/2025 10:55

Voi Lodge, Tsavo East game reserve, Kenya. I don't think you can beat the sight of dozens of elephants at a waterhole from your hotel bedroom window, can you?

Capella Singapore in a pool villa for my 30th - absolutely beautiful. just need to make eye contact with someone and they are immediately with you. Tiny amazing details like if you have a dinner reservation a golf buggy will appear outside your villa at exactly the right time to take you there. Complimentary Moet on my birthday too.

The Gilpin in the Lake District, understated luxury and had a very warm and friendly feel about it - absolutely loved it. Had a massage in a spa cabin overlooking a lake that you walk through the woods to get to.

Wrenjay · 25/08/2025 11:34

The Herodion in Athens. The location was perfect for all the main sites. But the staff were absolutely amazing and lovely. We were even greeted by name, fresh iced water and sweets brought to us before we checked in. We always felt welcome at all times.

yodaforpresident · 25/08/2025 11:40

The mention of golf buggies above made me think of Sugar Beach in St Lucia - which is amazing with the views of the Pitons/ ocean etc - they have tuk tuks which pick you up from your villa to take you down to the beach or wherever you want to go. Major downside for me though were the bugs at night. We wanted to sit outside in the evening and watch the sky/ listen to the rainforest but it was impossible without being eaten alive and they seemed immune to repellent.

@Aaaaaaaaawwwwwww

Randy Pike looks amazing. We may have a couple of days at a loose end in the Lakes next week so have bookmarked this.

I have lots of favourites gathered over many years although some of these may now be out of date as I haven't travelled much recently.

In London my favourite has to be Claridges, followed by the Savoy. The service in both is amazing. In Scotland I love Gleneagles for all the activities but prefer the Fairmont at St Andrews because of its location. Both are very much about golf, but my late DH was always being invited to golf tournaments so I regularly went along to enjoy the spas!

In Wales, Portmeirion was interesting for a night, but the hotel wasn't memorable in itself unfortunately. The Gidleigh Park in Dartmoor is an real treat, and I especially recommend the afternoon teas - just don't expect to eat dinner the same night!

Many of my favourites come from years touring France in the holidays with chidlren. In Paris, I liked the Shagri-La. Elsewhere in France I had great food and have great memories of The Chateau de la Cote in Brantome, and Charteau de Creissels, Millau. The food in both was outstanding. In Monte-Carlo, the Hotel Hermitage stands out because of its pool area that opens out onto a lovely deck overlooking the marina.

Regular business trips to Switzerland took me to the Schweizerhof Hotel in Berne which is very convenient between the station and the old town and has fabulous rooms and a lovely stainless steel spa pool in the basement. The Lausanne Palace in Lausanne has a more traditional grand opulance.

Moving on to Italy, Ca' Sagredo on the Grand Canal in Venice has the most beautiful painted ceiling above the staircase and great views of the canal from the bedrooms. In Positano, La Sirenuse is the perfect place and the Villa Belvedere in Taorminia was one of the most relaxing places I have been on holiday, away from the crowds but close enough to the town to venture out in the evening (the hotel served breakfast and lunch, but not evening meals).

Further afield, hotels worth a mention include The Rosedon in Bermuda (again no evening meals), The Blair Hill Inn, at Mooshead Lake in Canada - stunning scenery and memorable breakfasts.

I have stayed at a few Fairmont Hotels, and apart from St Andrews mentioned above, the other one that I loved was the Jasper Park Lodge - I loved it enough to go back a second time! I agree with another pp that other Fairmonts are not so good. In Whistler, I prefer the Westin, and rather than staying in Lake Lousie, I recomend The Lodge at Morraine Lake instead. When most of the tourists leave at the end of the day, the place is magical.

Sorry it's such a long list, but I can't choose between them as they all hold such significant memories for me.

The Chedi, Oman. Many years ago when it first opened. I was young and felt like I was uber cool

InSpainTheRain · 25/08/2025 21:42

Baros in the Maldives for complete luxury.
Taj Hotel at Bengaluru Airport - so luxurious and amazing service which was personalised.
We also loved W hotel in Barcelona - great location and fun vibe and amazing food

Raffles, Angkor Wat, Cambodia, loved the colonial feel of the hotel.

Beau Rivage, Lausanne, Switzerland, spa, rooms and location.

Atlantis the Palm Dubai for all round fun.

Table Bay, Cape Town, breakfast and location.

Pennyhill Park because I am addicted to the spa there.

That’s a good one, I went for my birthday one year.

HafNedd123 · 25/08/2025 21:49

Hotel 41 in London was nice. Not sure if its still there. This was about 15 years ago. Very near to the Palace if i remember.

Portmeirion in North wales is really special but i recommend staying in a village room or suite. Eat at the hotel for breakfast but the Castell bistro for dinner. It's magical in the evenings when the day visitors have left.

Edited

Lovely place my sister got married there. X

mamagogo1 · 25/08/2025 21:53

Recently? Buxton crescent hotel is lovely. Friendly staff but fairly discreet, not showy. For more opulence the Kingsbury in Colombo was great, handmade chocolates and fruit on arrival and complimentary g&t’s at 5pm, I’m easily impressed
