Mena House in Giza. Beautiful, perfect service, and a close up view of the Pyramids from our room.

weareallcats · 24/08/2025 18:19

Crazy Bear just outside Oxford - like a pp, I was really young when we went but it was so quirky and I loved it.

The Fortress in Galle (Sri Lanka) was like an oasis after a long flight and a long transfer.

Crikeyalmighty · 24/08/2025 18:19

@Downplayit it’s an ex cinema with a Hollywood style staircase to bar and downstairs has a 600 seater venue for gigs and comedy - thoroughly recommend it and its not mental money at all either- we are off again at new year .

Grotto Bay hotel, Bermuda.
Had its own private beach, pool and caves that you could swim in.
Staff were brilliant, food brilliant and the rum swizzles....
Hardlly any brits there at all, so no people getting up to put towels on sun beds at 6am, no football shirts, pure bliss.

Creamcrakered25 · 24/08/2025 18:21

Hotel Belmar Monteverde Costa Rica, hot towels to refresh when we arrived, glass of Bucks Fizz/mimosa type crisp and fresh. Glad sided bathrooms overlooking forest. Lovely staff and fab wildlife tours.

Best Bed: Westin Grand Berlin. Fabulous Foyer, walk to all of Berlin sights.

Decumani Hotel de Charmer Naples ,the most fabulous breakfast room ever and fab pasties!!

Is that the place with the double Decker bus in the grounds?

I still have really happy memories of the Butterfly Hotel in Peterborough at the end of the rowing course. We were supposed to be camping at the regatta, I was tired, cold and miserable after our race, and spunked £40 on a room. It was clean with a double bed and a bathroom. Woke up to a view of the course and coffee in bed. I do love hotels.

I really loved No 15 Pulteney Street in Bath. Quirky and very very comfortable.

The Conrad in New York - amazing place, we loved it there.

Bovey Castle on Dartmoor.

Burgh Island hotel.

Dartmoorcheffy · 24/08/2025 18:24

Mandalay bay in vegas. Absolutely amazing rooms , pools, food, everything about it was just luxury.

Would have said the Gran Castillo in playa blanca is amazing too but we had only been there for 4 hours when covid lockdown happened on lanzarote and we were confined to our rooms apart from being allowed to go for meals .

I've just realised that I've stayed in lots of lovely hotels but not any swanky ones!

So the best I can do is when my husband and I were very early 20s and we stayed in a London Hilton using some sort of discount deal. Our plan included one set 3 course meal and we could only have table water due to the price of drinks. When it came to the dessert the waiter was so kind and he offered us a choice from the a la carte dessert menu.

We had the champagne sorbet with blackcurrants which was made by him using a frozen bowl at the table. It was amazing. Such a treat.

Amanwella resort in Tangelle Sri Lanka, amazing scenery and food.
Taj Hyderabad, the history and service.
Chena Huts, Yala Nationaal Park Sri Lanka, no food allowed in rooms and you had to always keep doors shut and locked as wild animals including Leopards were around.

Nina1013 · 24/08/2025 18:26

Beaumont Mayfair, London
Fairmont Chateau, Whistler
Main building club level at the Grand Floridian, Orlando (although for the £1000+ per night for a standard room, it’s questionable really)

Janeeyrre · 24/08/2025 18:29

Just remembered Tea Trails bungalow in Hatton Sri Lanka, butler service and a sea plane to get there. Walk up from dock in amazing lush clouds and greenery .

You can ask for any food as there are no menus.

My favourites are:

Six Senses Yao Noi
Four Seasons Ubud
Taj Palace Mumbai
The Oberoi Udaipur
Capella Singapore
The Peninsula Tokyo
Four Seasons Park Lane

All beautiful with exquisite service. Also, I love hotel spas and they were all incredible.

Pen-y-Dyffren just outside Oswestry. Lovely calm country hotel with a first rate restaurant.

sunsu · 24/08/2025 19:45

Gleneagles!

I’m sure there’s much swankier ones on this thread but I stayed in the Hotel Da Vinci on Rue Des St Peres in Paris and just loved it. They still had a lot of the old Belle- Epoque style fittings and the breakfast buffet wasn’t massive but was served in the lovely bistro style restaurant. There was an honesty bar at night that really was like a well stocked home bar - the night manager gave me and my pal a wee wink and a rye “Bonne nuit, Mesdames” as we tottered off to our room with our “generously” poured glasses of wine.
Best of all, the bed was very comfy and the air con very cold, just what you wanted after a hot day seeing the sights.

Giraffe Manor (giraffes visit you for breakfast and afternoon tea)
The Peninsula in Hong Kong (super luxurious)
The Sofitel in Hanoi (history, luxury, location)
The Nare in Cornwall for old fashioned luxury, Rick Stein’s Bistro hotel for location, food
Great Bear Lodge in Canada for the best bear watching experience ever

Never stayed at the Nare but absolutely my favourite beach

Not really stayed in many hotels but the Grand at Brighton was rather nice (work)

SundayFundayz · 24/08/2025 19:53

The Idle Rocks in St Mawes Cornwall. I’d wanted to stay there for years and it was everything I’d hoped it would be!

Judiezones · 24/08/2025 19:54

Gowanlea Heights in Campbeltown, Kintyre. It's run by such lovely people, they make it feel like home, but better.
It's a B&B but it's better than any hotel I've ever stayed in, and I've travelled a lot and stayed in some lovely hotels.

LegoMaxifigure · 24/08/2025 19:55

Oberois! All the Oberois. Any Oberoi

Itsnottheheatitsthehumidity · 24/08/2025 19:56

The Savoy in the late nineties, with a then boyfriend. It was so fancy. I’d never been treated like a VIP before. The decor was luxe and all the staff looked gorgeous. It’s been refurbished since, but I can’t afford to go back!

macshoto · 24/08/2025 20:00

Maybe more a restaurant with rooms than a hotel, but Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons takes some beating (particularly as a place to see in the New Year). All about the discreet but attentive service.

Trushy · 24/08/2025 20:03

Grand Hotel d'Angkor in Siem Reap. We were upgraded to a suite in the original part with balcony and were given the service that goes with the suite, Amazing
