And why you loved it so much

The Intercontinental Koh Samui. Absolutely hands down the most gorgeous hotel from my experience. I love many of the Indian Palace hotels and the swanky city ones, but the view over the Gulf of Thailand from the Air Bar and infinity pool is my (expensive) happy place.

SAS Tallinn. The rooms were large and the bed comfortable. It also had the best breakfast ever.

I've stayed in a lot of 5* hotels for work travel but for me nothing compares to small, boutique and quirky. I'd swap all the luxury hotels for something more personalised. Rooms individually designed and a nice bar and restaurant. I spend my life searching for these places for destination holidays if anyone has recommendations.

You might like the Randy Pike in the Lake District for the rooms

Las Casas de la Juderia in Seville.

So full of character and an oasis in the centre of a busy city.

We stayed there on our honeymoon 25 years ago! It was lovely.

chipsandpeas · 24/08/2025 20:22

langham melbourne - v.posh and i was given a up and down look by the receptionist however i was looking like a tramp

Fullerton Sydney - posh got a slight upgrade as well think to a junior suite but had the most amazing bath

Shang ra la Cairns - was upgraded to a suite, totally wasted on me but hey it was free

i never set out to book these hotels, i went by the price of new york city hotels when booking Australian hotels so got quite a few posh ones unintended

Marriot, Miami, right by where the huge cruise ships dock/leave from. It was vast, bellboys took our luggage to our room. It felt very luxurious, the bed was ridiculously huge and comfortable. The dining area was enormous, with a crazy variety of everything for breakfast.

Another was outside Tuscon, we were flooded out of our room during a storm (cars floating down the streets of Tuscon!) told to get a complimentary bottle. The hotel was built into a cliff, outside was tropical, absolutely beautiful.

Possibly my favourite (and we left a swanky place in Houston because we knew we’d be happier having stayed in one in Vegas) is the Candlewood Suites, not at all swanky, but a big suite, separate bedroom, the reason we have Lazy boy recliners. I’d definitely book again if ever we go back to America.

Edit to say: the Marriot in Times Square, 43rd floor, crazy exterior lifts, overlooking all the action. Freaked my DH out as I was lent against the window to look out.

The Langham , London
Jumeriah beach , Dubai
La Pirogue, Mauritius

Goinghome25 · 24/08/2025 20:27

Cairngorm Hotel in Aviemore. I loved it there. So welcoming. Perfect location.

The breakfast was gorgeous, proper cloth napkins, attentive waiter, wee swirls of butter on a silver dish.

Room was cute. Bed so comfortable.

Not a luxury luxury hotel, but it was so welcoming and comfortable and I was so happy there!

BlueEyedBogWitch · 24/08/2025 20:28

Four Seasons, Punta Mica.
One Aldwych, London.
Cobbler’s Cove, Barbados.
The Fife Arms, Braemar.

BlueEyedBogWitch · 24/08/2025 20:29

Oh, and Monachyle Mhor in Balqhuidder.

zeddybrek · 24/08/2025 20:30

Grand Tremezzo Palace, Lake Como.

Right across the lake from George Clooneys villa and has a floating swimming pool right on the lake.
Beautiful rich history and felt like you were in another world. I'll never stay anywhere so beautiful again.

Icanttakethisanymore · 24/08/2025 20:34

The lake palace hotel in Udaipur. I think it was featured in Octopussy. Regardless, it was amazing.

mondaytosunday · 24/08/2025 20:36

La Maison aux Quat’Saisons. My soon to be DH took me there for my 40th. It was on another level. We had a two level suite, huge, outside patio. The level of service was amazing. The food was incredible. An unforgettable experience.

CalzoneOnLegs · 24/08/2025 20:42

The Hamilton Princess in Bermuda, it was (maybe still is) painted pastel pink and was walking distance to Front Street, lovely memories

PeloMom · 24/08/2025 20:45

I must be really picky as of the 100s of hotels I’ve stayed at nothing jumps to mind to want me to go back to it again, including some of the ones mentioned here.
fairmont whistler - wouldn’t go back. I’m a diamond all Accor member and got upgrades etc however found the hotel overly crowded, it’s pet friendly and felt a bit like a zoo where dogs were barking from all directions. Didn’t feel luxurious in any shape or form.
I stayed at four seasons whistler too and found it much better- rooms huge, calm hotel, felt really nice but by no means what I’d call outstanding.
the crazy beer oxfordshire- found it pretty average and frankly, a little sleazy- felt like the kind of place where wealthy men bring their mistresses.
Giraffe Manor and Raffles and marina bay (both in Singapore) are on my to do list - hopefully in the next couple of years or so.

VoodooQualities · 24/08/2025 20:45

Neemrana Fort Palace, in Rajasthan - mainly because my husband proposed to me there but also it's just this amazing palace on a hillside, total luxury Indian style. And it was an absolute bargain too at £50 a night (2006)! Bet it's rather more than that these days.

Whatareyoutalkingaboutnow · 24/08/2025 20:45

Raffles in Singapore. So luxurious, beautiful and the service is perfect.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 24/08/2025 20:46

The Shangri La in Singapore is a favourite, but only the Garden Wing rooms with big balconies overlooking the gardens. Not the newer wing rooms with no balconies they once tried to fob us off with!

Pastaandoranges · 24/08/2025 20:47

Hotel du cap, french riviera. For a work trip. It was the most beautiful hotel and grounds I have ever seen. The atmosphere and everything about it was pure luxury, above anything I have ever experienced before or since. Its like a palace and you feel like a princess being there.

feellikeanalien · 24/08/2025 20:49

Fortaleza do Guincho in Portugal.
Parador in Cardona, Spain

Pottedpalm · 24/08/2025 20:52

Shutters on the Beach in Santa Monica. So cool and the service was fantastic.

Thispupsgottofly · 24/08/2025 20:52

Villa Cora in Florence. Fanciest hotel I've ever stayed in. It has a main hotel building and then a separate spa building and a separate restaurant that you can access through underground tunnels so it didn't matter if it was cold or raining.
