To think the sonographer could be wrong?

I’ve been told girl but I just feel like it’s protruding too much? AIBU to question this or do I just trust what the trained sonographer says? 🤷🏼‍♀️

Any parents with girls out here who had similar potty shots? I don’t know whether to book another scan somewhere else

The waiting and not knowing build expectation but do not put expectation on the child, who arrives as they are - a boy or a girl. It's a joyous surprise. Knowing the sex throughout pregnancy means there is no excitement in the arrival and if the sex is a disappointment that can affect the pregnancy.

Do you honestly believe that there is "no excitement in the arrival" of a baby when you already know the sex? So the only thing that is exciting when a baby is born is finding out if it's a boy or a girl? I mean, each to their own, but I find that quite bizarre.

AlligatorTears · 24/08/2025 12:45

Why take your son to an early gender scan reveal if you don’t have complete trust in what they’re doing? Surely you just wait until 24 weeks or whatever when it’s way more unlikely to get it wrong?! Very odd.

The op has explained multiple times why she did it. 👍🏼

chunkybear · 24/08/2025 13:46

Sorry not RTFT but the do graphed would have had more than that one view, they’d have seen the baby from multiple angles so I’d be inclined to think they’re probably correct … especially if it’s their sole job to do sex scans

Well clearly I didn’t know I was going to feel this way, did I? 🤣 the sex was extremely obvious with my son’s scan and my friends who have daughters seem to have scans that are very flat with the classic ‘three lines’ that people talk about. God I just wanted to see if anyone had a similar scan - arrest me now 🙄

Thank you. I was a bit silly to not initially think this ☺️ but he did a lot of moving around and looking so I’ve come to the conclusion to just trust his judgement and enjoy the girls clothes section (but keep my receipts just in case 🤣)

Essentially it’s baby with legs open in the air to determine boy/girl genitalia. It was very obvious with my son but just a bit confusing with this one but I will trust the sonographer got a better look (and maybe it’s just the picture that’s just a bit blurry/unclear) ☺️

Whatever sex it is, it has very cute legs!

Louoby · 24/08/2025 15:30

I was told a girl at 16 weeks, and again at 20 weeks. I went for a 4D scan at 28 weeks and was gobsmacked when she said it was a boy and showed me his winky. I almost grieved the girl I was expecting and anticipating for over 10 weeks 😭

Idk I’ve heard stories about getting the sex wrong at 15/16 weeks. Hopefully I’ve got nothing to worry about :)

Our sonographer (consultant) said at 22 weeks (couldn't see baby properly at 20 so had another) "don't paint anything pink but im almost certain its a girl"
MiL went crazy buying unicorns tutus and pink stuff. I bought one thing- a baby vest with leia and darth vader holding hands saying Daddy's Little Princess. I put a post on Facebook saying we were expecting- The Rise Of ..... (our surname)" with the vest.
MIL booked us a 4d scan which i didnt want as im very overweight and didnt think it would work. She couldn't see anything first time, so we were invited back and she said did we want the lights etc. We said the consultant said he wasn't 100% but thought girl but yeah the lights would be cute....
And then the lights came on. They were blue. Yep. Daddy's little princess had a winkle!
Anyway further scans i had (for health reasons) failed to confirm and the first question i asked when baby came out was "boy?"
He's now 5 🤣🤣🤣 nana returned the tutus but the vest is in his memory box as a funny story for him!

Why would you worry though?

Same old same old with these threads. A healthy baby boy would be a crushing disappointment.

I don't think so in this case. The op has had a son with a significant disability already. I think she just wants some happy news at a scan.

It looks more like a dinosaur to me! 😄

cc99xo · 25/08/2025 06:43

@AbuyeHow dare you. I’ve been through hell with multiple, and I mean MULTIPLE, losses AND back in 2020 I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy who unfortunately WASN’T healthy and now has a lifelong disability. Nobody wants a healthy baby more than me. Very easy for you to sit there on your high horse when you haven’t been through the trauma I’ve been through. I’d be over the moon regardless, but there’s absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to know whether I’m having a boy or a girl and not wanting to find out that whatever sex I was told was wrong later down the line in my pregnancy. I also don’t want my son to get his hopes up for a baby sister (which he’s always wanted) if he’s having a baby brother - again, I’D BE HAPPY EITHER WAY, and I’m sure he would eventually too.

I had 3 boys and the scans were very obviously a boy. Very loud and proud and immediately clear they were boys. I've never seen a scan from a girl though to compare - can you ask to check again on your next scan? A few years ago I gave a huge bundle of boy clothes to a friend of a friend who's scan was incorrect so I know for sure it does happen. Congratulations on your pregnancy OP - hope it's all going well for you!

Update: I had a NIPT done back at 10 weeks pregnant but opted out of knowing the sex at the time for personal reasons. I was told to make the decision about the sex and I wouldn’t be able to change my mind. Anyway I took a very slim chance and contacted the company I did my NIPT through and they were able to go back on my files and confirm she is in fact a girl 💗🥰 - so with NIPT saying girl + scan (even if it doesn’t look completely clear to my untrained eye) I think it’s safe to say she’s 99.9% my beautiful daughter. Thanks everyone!

Same old with these threads. People don't read the OP's posts properly and just make (rude and incorrect) assumptions.

Doitrightnow · 25/08/2025 07:13

I know someone told girl but it was a boy.
Consequently I didn't assume I knew the sex for sure until my dc was in my arms.

‘potty shots’??

cc99xo sorry you've had so much flak on this thread. I'm very sorry that you've endured so many losses.

Delighted to read that there is further confirmation of the sex of your lovely little baby - congratulations 💐

It's hilarious - yes the only exciting thing the day you give birth is knowing whether your child has a vagina or a penis. If you've found out before there's no excitement at all. In fact I wouldn't bother even showing up to the birth of I knew the sex already, no point.
