To think the sonographer could be wrong?

I’ve been told girl but I just feel like it’s protruding too much? AIBU to question this or do I just trust what the trained sonographer says? 🤷🏼‍♀️

Any parents with girls out here who had similar potty shots? I don’t know whether to book another scan somewhere else

How old is your son? Sounds like you’ve projected a lot of your emotion onto him.

cc99xo · 23/08/2025 22:12

He’s been asking to come to a scan and see his baby sibling, private ultrasounds like peekababy, window to the womb etc allow family members and children :) I’m glad he came, he absolutely loved it. Obviously he wouldn’t come to an NHS scan.

Excuse me? 🤣 what an odd thing to say. He has no idea about my losses. He’s just been desperate for a sibling for years and has always loved the thought of a baby sister. I’m projecting my emotion onto him because I enjoyed sharing an exciting moment with him?

cc99xo · 23/08/2025 22:17

I’ve protected my son from a lot and I am more than capable of hiding my own emotions. The amount of times I’ve happily skipped with him to school and then sobbed my heart out on the way home. The time I threw his birthday party with nothing but a smile on my face whilst actively miscarrying ANOTHER baby. You have no idea the pain I’ve endured, what a vile accusation to make all because a child has a preference on the gender of a sibling - like most do!

I would assume it’s a girl then if they were confident. I’ve known people to be specifically told ‘90% sure’ etc

Sorry for your losses. If against the odds it does turn out to be a little boy I’m sure you could easily hype up having a baby brother to your son, if he’s happy and excited about the thought of a new baby in general I doubt he would be too heartbroken.

I was told ‘95%’ confident and ‘been doing this 15 years.’ In the car I realised ok, so they’re wrong 1/20 times. I was the 1/20.

Yes I have my anomaly scan with a private consultant at 18 weeks but the sex is the last thing on my mind that day but I guess it’ll be nice to have it confirmed 😊

Yet you have prioritised finding out the sex 2-3 weeks before this so it must be a big deal to you? Assuming all is well at the anomaly scan I don't understand why you can't be excited to have the sex confirmed (as much as they ever will confirm it) that day too. You're not going to get a definitive answer asking here.

Sorry OP - it was just when you said this

I guess I’m worried as my son was there with me and he’s always dreamt of this ‘baby sister’ and I’d feel bad getting his hopes up. Of course he’d get over it but after multiple losses, seeing how excited he was about the thought of a baby sister made me so happy

Sounded like you had been sharing a lot with him.

I don’t think the sonographer would tell you if they weren’t sure fwiw.

happyLittleAG · 23/08/2025 22:22

@cc99xo som’t stress about what people are saying here. They’ll look for literally anything to pick on. I think it’s perfectly fine to take your DS to your ultrasounds and that I’m sure it was a special moment. Even if it’s not a girl, he’ll get over it.

Delphiniumandlupins · 23/08/2025 22:23

If you're not confident then just make the point to your DS that the baby is probably a girl but if it's another boy you hope he's as wonderful as his big brother. I would trust a professional sonographer though and there's plenty opportunity for a later scan if you still have doubts.

cc99xo · 23/08/2025 21:49

@PamIsAVolleyballChampActually this was a private ultrasound at peek-a-baby purely to find out the sex.

What for?
You'll find out in five months.

I didn't know what any of mine were.

This is a lovely way to word it.

Get a nipt or gender blood test

Our highly 'qualified' sonographer told us we were having a boy at 22 weeks! Good job we didn't paint the nursery blue is all I can say......

cc99xo · 23/08/2025 22:26

@IntoTheFringeAt peek-a-baby they were doing a deal , if you have 3 early reassurance scans you get a free gender scan. My little boy was also wanting to come to a scan, which they allow at this clinic, so just made sense to make use of the offer of a free scan :)

Ik someone who was told a girl bought everything girly. Child was born a boy they had to send family out to change all the pink clothing. It does and can happen

If it was a private scan especially to find out boy/girl then I suspect it would put them under pressure to give a definite answer, which means that they may be less accurate.

Have to wait and see.

Zonder · 23/08/2025 22:10

Does it matter?

Time to manage expectations with your son - I'm surprised they agreed to him being present.

It wasn't a NHS scan. Those types of places tend to encourage mums to bring family members, including children.

Me too! Baby t-rex

Noshadelamp · 23/08/2025 22:29

I was told that if they think it's a big it's pretty much certain, but if they think it's a girl it still might be a boy.

OP doesn't have to make the same decision.

@nomaswell in that case my son definitely would be over the moon 😂

Mamabear487 · 23/08/2025 22:33

1000% a girl. I’ve had both and can definitely tell when it’s a boy…

BlankBlankBlank14 · 23/08/2025 22:35

@cc99xo how old is your son? Old enough to explain it’s “probably” a girl?
