To think she owes him a public apology?

Has anyone else been following this story?

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-15024445/Conor-Maynard-paternity-test-results-revealed-Charlotte-Chilton-demanded-second-test-ongoing-row-daughter-Penelope.html

Brief summary: Charlotte, from S2 of The Traitors UK, claimed she had a ONS with Conor Maynard, resulting in the birth of her daughter. She was quick to drag his name through the mud as being a deadbeat dad for not providing her with support, but two paternity tests later, it has been conclusively revealed that he isn't the father.

What an embarrassing situation for her. Surely as a woman if you're shagging multiple men at a similar time, it's basic sense to at least be sure of who the father is before publicly naming them and making accusations!

Perhaps she hoped it was Conor because he was single at the time, and the other potential father/s weren't?!

That poor girl. She's going to see all this online when she grows up. And all because of her mother's stupidity.

Surely Charlotte owes Conor a grovelling public apology at the very least?

Charlotte Chilton breaks her silence over second paternity test result

Charlotte, 32, announced in June last year that Conor, also 32, was the father of her unborn 'miracle' baby.

I thought 'who the fluff is Albert from The Chase?' Confused

But then I got it. Grin

Yep, like many other posters here, I can't remember this woman at ALL. (From The Traitors.)

Its possible I'm being really, extra dense here but please could you explain it to me?

Do you remember Paul from The Traitors? if so then you should definitely remember Charlotte as she kind of became his shadow!

Then he can look into other action. Sue for libel/harassment?

If he sued for libel / harassment, he would have to prove that she was lying about him being the father (since truth is an absolute defence to a defamation claim).

The courts expect paternity to be proved / disproved via scientific evidence so in order to sue in the way you are suggesting, he would need to …. take a paternity test.

If he’s planning on taking action that requires a paternity test, he might as well take it at an early stage and hopefully shut matters down without having to shell out literally millions on lawyers. The cost of a libel / slander action can be seen in the Colleen Rooney case. That’s not an unusual bill and I get the impression she wouldn’t be able to cover his costs when she inevitably lost the case.

She likely doesn’t have enough to even make it worth suing

It has been suggested he could know it wasn't his due to other medical conditions. If that's the case he could use that as evidence. If that's not the case then there was a possibility he was the father.

And yes, taking a paternity test early would have shut it down, but he didn't take it early, the baby is 10 months old.

He took a paternity test after 10 months because he couldn't prove the baby wasn't his, meaning there was a chance it was his, so he should have taken the test as soon as it was born so he could step up as a dad if it was his.

He took the first one last year, this is the second one he's done and she's still not happy.

Sorry I assumed he'd only just done them both recently!

So why couldn't he use that first test as evidence he wasn't the father?

Because Charlotte was adamant that he'd rigged it and got someone else to take it for him.

And even though he obviously knew that wasn't true, she kept banging on about it in public and so test number two was to prove the result concretely.

She said there was an unknown male with him when he took the first test so she thought he'd cheated.
She was still publicly trashing him, so he took another test to settle it once and for all.

diddl · 23/08/2025 15:39

I get the feeling they may not have slept together.

I wondered that & she thought he might have been too embarrassed to admit it?

Or maybe he used a condom & like many thought that it was foolproof?

KeepCalmAndCarryOnScrolling · 23/08/2025 16:15

What is interesting is the other story in the press that also claimed a Traitors co-star slept with her in early 2024 and was a contender (beginning to sound like a reality show in itself, Lace/Mamma Mia). They were not naming him 👀

And be met with ‘why not just take the paternity test then? You’re lying and trying to avoid it because you know you’re the father!’. There have been other celebrities that have refused paternity tests, and this is invariably what they’re met with.

He did take one early. She just didn’t like the results and continued the media tour, accusing him of faking the results, hence the second one.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 23/08/2025 16:26

He did take the test early - she just refused to accept the result.

She then ran a campaign of slander and libel against him insisting he was a ‘deadbeat dad’ so he took another test under even stricter conditions to confirm the first test was accurate.

Since I assume he knew he hadn’t fiddled the first test, he’s known there is proof he’s not the father since March and he seems to have been (correctly) sure before that.

Since Charlotte has already accused him of criminal fraud (faking the result of a paternity test which would be used in court for child support is a crime), why would she accept his medical records? It’s a lot easier to fake a medical report than it is to fake a blood test / mouth swab (however the doctor carries out the test) in the presence of Charlotte’s lawyers.

CandidHedgehog · 23/08/2025 16:34

JHound · 23/08/2025 16:30

What libel? He would need evidence she lied. She could just as easily be mistaken.

Also, to disprove her claims, the starting point the court would expect to see would be a negative paternity test.

Edited to say: Truth is a defence to libel. If he was the father and was refusing to support his child, ‘deadbeat dad’ would be accurate so he would need to start any libel / slander case by showing he isn’t the father.

Also, a libel / slander case costs hundreds of thousands of pounds minimum), a paternity test costs a few hundred. Even the supervised second one probably only cost a thousand or so.

It’s not unreasonable for him to take the substantially less expensive route to stopping her harassment.

Agree. But interesting if she carries it on cause that won't wash then. It's hard to mistake the outcome of two DNA tests.

But I mean even a failed paternity test would not be enough for libel if she had genuinely believed she was telling the truth.
