To think single mothers are judged harshly because deep down society still thinks kids need fathers more than mothers admit?

The way single mums get talked about is brutal. AIBU to think it’s because people still believe kids fundamentally need fathers, even if no one says it out loud?

@JHound. If the lives of single women become easier when they are single, that's great. I hope that's true. I don't think this is the full picture though.

Well yes, money wise it’s not.

But no woman leaves a supporting, good partner and father.

I'm not going to pretend I have close personal experience of what single mothers go through but I know that some basic challenges would be- exhaustion, tiredness without extra help on childcare, at meal times, help with discipline, holidays, general loneliness at times, isolation from adults outside of work , lack of meaningful adult conversation, lack of " me time", someone else to discuss the children's health, schooling, mental health etc. Basically some general support, whether from a man or a woman.

All these things can be issues that a single parent is much more likely to encounter than if they weren't single. Nobody would suggest women stay in unhappy relationships. Obviously not. A crappy dad may never be able to change his ways. And from what we see on Mumsnet there are definitely shed loads of crappy dads out there.. All I'm saying is I wonder if some women think hard enough about all the potential hardships they're signing up down the line they can't- between the man and the woman- work something else out.

I think you will find @RememberBeKindWithKaren that single parenthood is never entered into lightly. Sometimes there is no “working something else out”. Often women are forced to swallow the risks and be strong because there simply is no other way forward.

Women accept a lot of shit from men because they don’t want to be single parents.

I've said all I'm going to say on the subject..The truth is out there and we all have our own takes on it..I've said mine.
