AIBU to think chocolate should NOT be kept in the fucking fridge?

ChocolateShouldNotBeInTheFuckingFridge · 19/08/2025 18:54

DH believes chocolate (including biscuits e.g. digestives) should be kept in the fridge because “it tastes nicer, keeps its shape and lasts longer”.

I believe chocolate should not be kept in the fridge because it’s fucking wrong, basically. Am I being unreasonable?

(There is also another AIBU worthy sub question, which is that if you can say you can fit a chocolate digestive in your mouth, YABU to then break it into pieces with bites as you put it in, so that it fits? This is clearly cheating and DH should be told he is YABU just for this alone? If I lose this fridge thread, I’ll start that one Wink)

Do you live in the Sahara without Aircon?

🤣😆 I live in Swansea - quite exotic for Wales really!

I am surprised at the interest in this topic! And only slightly sulking at the vote, I have plans - my next AIBU is going to be about warm milk or cold milk on cereal. I will be totally unbiased and use Person A thinks cold milk. Person B thinks warm milk and particularly enjoys a “hot milk skin” as they are a total fucking weirdo, who doesn’t deserve cereal, milk, chocolate or even a fridge.

As totally unbiased as those usual “I’m going to be neutral using Person A and Person B”AIBU threads!

Also on my To Do List:
Buy Bounties
Buy snickers and freeze
Try and find white chocolate digestives
Google chocolate fridges and feel wistful…

Hmm but they call themselves Hotel Chocolat and they started in north London - nothing French about them, so I am not sure they can be trusted!

taxidriver · 19/08/2025 20:30

many years ago, before snickers ice creams were invented, where i worked on a camp in america, they used to freeze snickers,
they were delicious

about 30 years ago i stayed with some work colleagues, who came from ireland, who had warm milk on their cornflakes and swore me to secrecy.

I kind of get warm milk because that is how it comes out of the cow!

No but hate aircon.

ChocolateShouldNotBeInTheFuckingFridge · 19/08/2025 20:37

@Arran2024I like you! I just started reading it to DH and got as far as how to prevent sugar bloom before he started providing his own advice…Grin which can be condensed into “just eat the fucking thing within 24 hours” basically GrinHe also questions how fucking long people are leaving their chocolate before eating. I should have led with this information in my OP shouldn’t I. Rookie error. <hangs head in shame at drip feed of melted chocolate>

DH has denied being on a work trip thirty years agoSmile To be fair he is unashamedly “out” about his wrongful love of warm milk. He doesn’t even have the decency to pretend…

It’s really nice with honey in it when you have a sore throat…

Generally I’d say cold milk, @ChocolateShouldNotBeInTheFuckingFridge - though cornflakes with cream and brown sugar is lush (and forbidden now I have type 2 diabetes 😢😢😢), but occasionally what I really crave is cornflakes with hot milk and sugar - I love the way they go soggy and a bit fizzy. I know - I’m ashamed of myself.

ThousandYardStare · 19/08/2025 20:44

Warm milk? [cries]

Butchyrestingface · 19/08/2025 20:45

I'm not a huge chocolate fan but yes, it resides in the fridge when I do buy it.

There are only two places where foodstuffs belong - fridge or oven. Anywhere else is godless heathen talk.

dynamiccactus · 19/08/2025 20:46

It absolutely needs to be in the fridge. I don't like it soft and I don't like hot chocolate either.

It might be controversial but you really don't need to swear about it.

TriciaMcMillan · 19/08/2025 20:47

Ate warm or room temperature chocolate my entire life without complaint. Married a 'chocolate lives in the fridge' type. Never looked back. Refrigerated chocolate all the way.

For those who declare it goes off or goes white if you leave it in there too long, you're doing chocolate wrong.

Assssofspades · 19/08/2025 20:48

I went on a chocolate factory tour which specifically said it is to be kept at room temperature.

My husband puts it in the freezer 🙄

Timeforabitofpeace · 19/08/2025 20:49

Of COURSE it should!

They were originally called Choc Express. Their boxes were designed to fit through letterboxes.

nocoolnamesleft · 19/08/2025 20:49

It should be kept in the fridge only during heatwaves.

ConfusedSloth · 19/08/2025 20:50

But they, unlike everyone else, don’t use palm oil - which is what makes room temperature chocolate taste like claggy shit

Arran2024 · 19/08/2025 20:50

If you go to a quality chocolate shop, say in Switzerland, the chocolate is definitely not kept in a fridge. I rest my case.

LeaAndDer · 19/08/2025 20:51

Fridge always, I like something hard in my life.

Again, because it’s not full of palm oil that has a much lower melting point and tastes like claggy shit when not cold
