AIBU to think chocolate should NOT be kept in the fucking fridge?

DH believes chocolate (including biscuits e.g. digestives) should be kept in the fridge because “it tastes nicer, keeps its shape and lasts longer”.

I believe chocolate should not be kept in the fridge because it’s fucking wrong, basically. Am I being unreasonable?

(There is also another AIBU worthy sub question, which is that if you can say you can fit a chocolate digestive in your mouth, YABU to then break it into pieces with bites as you put it in, so that it fits? This is clearly cheating and DH should be told he is YABU just for this alone? If I lose this fridge thread, I’ll start that one Wink)

I've just had a square of my reeses bar from the fridge. Lush.

smallsilvercloud · 19/08/2025 22:25

I wouldn’t have the patience for chocolate to chill, much prefer it at room temperature.

You are RIGHT! The cold tightens the molecules, and , in taste terms, reduces the flavour.

Gladysknightjustwalkinmyshoes · 19/08/2025 22:44

I don't mind milky way, certain biscuits in the fridge even frozen mars bar but my dark chocolate lives in the cupboard.

Jumpingthruhoops · 19/08/2025 23:05

Chocolate should absolutely be kept in the fridge. Who wants their chocolate to sit at room temperature, getting all hot and sweaty?

FancyCatSlave · 19/08/2025 23:07

I like my chocolate cold, don’t like
it soft and melty. But it doesn’t stay there long enough to get a bloom, just as long as it takes the wine to chill!

Biscuits have no place whatsoever in the fridge though. That’s a hard line!

Yes I don’t understand these bloom people… why buy it if you are not going to snaffle it down ASAP temporarily store it in the fridge?! Also agree with the wine chilling comment! (And ice cubes if your fridge is being lazy with the wine!)

Wow, cannot believe the votes. OP you are NOT BU

sallydoodlecat · 19/08/2025 23:18

Chocolate definitely in fridge for me and sometimes in freezer. I get it changes the flavour and don't care. I love the snappiness. Especially Easter eggs which have to go in the freezer. I have been known to put a chocolate digestive in the freezer too.

The people have spoken… and they are eating chocolate under the best possible circumstances!

My SIL has a separate 'chocolate and butter' fridge (she is Swiss so has some choccy credentials).
It operates between 6 and 10 degrees as opposed to regular domestic fridges which are 3 to 5 degrees. The butter is spreadable, and the chocolate cool but doesn't break your teeth - perfect!

I have one of these. I don't keep butter in it, because I don't spread butter. It's the best place for chocolate. I run it at about 12 degrees, which is just right. It has a lock, which I don't need to deploy because NOBODY touches my chocolate without express permission. Any chocolate outside this cooler is fair game. I'm not a complete tyrant.

Most unreasonable post in this section to date lol - chocolate must always be kept in the fridge!

aLittleWhiteHorse · 19/08/2025 23:32

I didn’t have very strong feelings- until I bit into a bar of chocolate straight from the fridge and broke the root of my tooth.

One very expensive bone graft and implant later, I no longer keep chocolate in the fridge.

Eenameenadeeka · 20/08/2025 00:04

I think it tastes nicer at room temperature, seems like less flavor right out of the fridge. Depends how hot it is the summer though - when we went to Australia and it was 40° it was all in the fridge in the stores

florizel13 · 20/08/2025 06:46

Agree! It doesn't taste as nice when it's been in the fridge! I'd rather have melty but tasty chocolate!

NoraLuka · 20/08/2025 06:56

Can’t believe how many people keep chocolate in the fridge, it makes it taste of nothing! I think most things have more taste at room temperature, like fruit and cheese.

zaazaazoom · 20/08/2025 06:59

What the actual hell is wrong with you all.
Cold chocolate tastes of nothing.

Ye have all been warned, you fridge/freezer using loons.

Soft yucky chocolate. I'd rather eat dust to quote Marjory Dawes.

You may as well be eating dust, with the lack of flavour that fridge/freezer chocolate has.

mondaytosunday · 20/08/2025 08:55

I’ve kept KitKat in the fridge this summer as it’s been so hot the chocolate has gone all soft. But normally no, I don’t.

RedPony1 · 20/08/2025 09:36

Fridge chocolate is rank.

At Christmas I buy a box of after eights JUST FOR ME and keep them in the fridge. Lovely cold snap of chocolate with a minty middle mmmm 😋 . Woe betide anyone who steals them - although if they do I need to buy at least one more box obviously. However if I ever find out who steals them and leaves the little envelope in the box thereby tricking me into thinking I still have lots left there will be trouble !!

Dh is in the doghouse at the moment, @Sahara123. I have a box of Green and Blacks tiny chocolate bars - lots of different flavours, but only two tiny bars of each - they are my chocolate fix now I am type 2 diabetic, and can't have a lot of sugar. I asked him to bring me a couple of mini bars, but not the ginger flavoured ones - those are my favourite and I wanted to save them 'til last. He thought I didn't like them, and he ATE THEM!!! I was shocked and saddened.

I've added a full sized bar of the ginger flavour to next week's supermarket order, and if he lays a finger on it, I'm hiding all his Yorkie bars!

That's divorce territory! I feel your pain.

It's like cheese - it tastes better left out of the fridge.

I worked in a hotel in Switzerland when I was a student and the cheese board and the chocolates were removed from the fridge at start of service so they were perfect to eat by the time it came to eating them.

Chocolate goes so hard in the fridge - I don't like the texture and you don't pick up the flavour.

But it's personal taste. I put ketchup in the fridge even though you dont have to because we like it cold.
