AIBU to think chocolate should NOT be kept in the fucking fridge?

DH believes chocolate (including biscuits e.g. digestives) should be kept in the fridge because “it tastes nicer, keeps its shape and lasts longer”.

I believe chocolate should not be kept in the fridge because it’s fucking wrong, basically. Am I being unreasonable?

(There is also another AIBU worthy sub question, which is that if you can say you can fit a chocolate digestive in your mouth, YABU to then break it into pieces with bites as you put it in, so that it fits? This is clearly cheating and DH should be told he is YABU just for this alone? If I lose this fridge thread, I’ll start that one Wink)

Urggh chocolate kept in the fridge has no taste. It should be eaten at 20 degrees. DH put Rocky caramel bars in the fridge - chocolate was tasteless and caramel was hard, completely ruined.

He's right, you're wrong.

Almost all chocolate now contains so much palm oil that it melts at a much lower temperature than it should and feels icky at room temperature.

His reasons are:

  1. It tastes nicer
  2. It keeps its shape better
  3. It lasts longer.
Your reasons are:
  1. It's fucking wrong.

That alone should tell you who is right.

Warm chocolate should be banned. If it's not hot chocolate, it should be cold chocolate.

I like chocolate at room temperature except in the height of summer. But then I’m not that excited about chocolate unless it’s posh enough to have that bit more cocoa butter (solid at room temp, melts deliciously in the mouth at body heat).

Is everyone aware that a chocolate bar in the hand is actually worth 2 in the bush? And neither of those are refrigerated

You keep your chocolate in a bush. Interesting. Deciduous or evergreen?

Theyreeatingthedogs · 19/08/2025 19:32

No, chocolate should not be kept in the fridge. The coldness means it loses flavour. Store it somewhere cool but not as cold as the fridge.

ConfusedSloth · 19/08/2025 19:32

To clarify, for those outraged, when I say "share a Terry's Chocolate Orange", I obviously mean "share his Terry's Chocolate Orange".

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · 19/08/2025 19:34

I keep it in the fridge in summer, but remove what I want to eat in advance.

Or very curly ?

I'll up the ante and say Frazzles too. Nasty little dry shards of disappointment

I’ll give you frazzles. Maybe we can be friends after all.

missrabbit1990 · 19/08/2025 19:36

I am surprised at the poll results. I think YANBU, OP. Melty chocolate is the best chocolate. Cold chocolate loses its taste.

Guavafish1 · 19/08/2025 19:36

Summer is hot… fridge is fine

Anyone remember the Marianne Faithfull story?

TutiFrutti · 19/08/2025 19:37

No! 😱 What is wrong with you people? cold chocolate is an abomination, it tastes best all warm and melty.
Not that my husband would agree but he is not allowed an opinion on important subjects such as this.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 19/08/2025 19:37

Fridge of course, then you take a bite and that chocolate slowly melts in your mouth. Takes longer to eat it and therefore can savour for longer or, prevents you eating too much when (attempting) to be healthier..

Arlanymor · 19/08/2025 19:38

I am slightly concerned that some of you have strangely cold mouths - are you part-amphibian? That’s the whole reason fridge chocolate is so good, first you get the nice crack of the bite and then your mouth temperature warms it up so that it literally melts on your tongue. Mmmmm. 👅

rubrikscube · 19/08/2025 19:39

Wispa bars straight out of the freezer!

breakfastdinnerandtea · 19/08/2025 19:40

Chocolate in fridge? Yes. Biscuits probably not (although I’d say yes for anything like a club or penguin). My DH puts sweets in the fridge like a little heathen.

YANBU re biscuits in mouth. Fitting a digestive in mouth means whole. We can all do it, except DH. DD doesn’t even touch the sides.

Oh Mick Jagger… yes… Mars 🍫…

Do you think he kept it in the fridge first?

InterestedDad37 · 19/08/2025 19:40

Chocolate, yeah I keep it in the fridge - mostly so that I won't eat it all straight away (I hide it behind the eggs - that's a different debate 😀)
Biscuits in the fridge? NO! IS HE AN IDIOT? 🤔
And I CAN fit a whole digestive in without cheating 😀🍪

Ddakji · 19/08/2025 19:41

A slab of good quality milk chocolate, yes.

But not dark chocolate and not chocolate biscuits. That’s just lunacy.

SeptaUnellasBell · 19/08/2025 19:42

A Mars bar from the freezer is Gods own food choice. You’re wrong.

That would have been chilly but too warm would be ... er ... sticky.

Sera1989 · 19/08/2025 19:43

It seems I’m in the minority but I think chocolate is best in the summer! I love bendy chocolate. I don’t like it from the fridge, it’s hard, flavourless and either takes ages to melt or just becomes bits in your mouth. Dark chocolate from the fridge is the worst, the experience for me is just saliva with small bits of chocolate in rather than a nice melty coating

WhatcakeshalIIbaketoday · 19/08/2025 19:43

If it’s hot but you still want chocolate, the fridge is the only option. I wouldn’t put biscuits in the fridge unless they had enough chocolate to give you messy fingers if eaten at room temperature.

CaptainMyCaptain · 19/08/2025 19:42

Indeed! And now we’re going into bandmate Bill Wyman’s territory - Sticky Fingers! Which I imagine is what non-fridge chocolate eaters must have permanently!

Waitingfordoggo · 19/08/2025 19:44

Sorry I prefer it refrigerated. My favourite chocolate bars are better cold- especially at this time of year. Not biscuits though, that’s just silly.

Mind you I like to keep chocolate and biscuits as completely separate things. Digestives are great as they are- don’t be putting chocolate and caramel and all that on there. If I want chocolate or caramel, I will buy that.
