To ask those who are not white brittish how they feel about the flags?

Birmingham and Tower Hamlets are having St George England flags put up by privately funded groups.
I'm horrified by the implicit racism. I've seen a lot of white people applauding this and "time we took back the country" comments.
I haven't seen many non white people commenting. My feel is that they are too intimidated to do so. Am I right? Or is it indifference or is it that you're dealing with racism on a daily level and this is just one more thing.
Please don't post if you're white.whatever you feel about the flags. I want to hear on white viewd

I feel British first and foremost, despite being English, and weirdly.the British flag doesn't provoke the same kind of conflicted feelings in me that the George Cross does. It's because the George Cross has been hijacked by the far right, such as EDL. And while I agree that nobody should be ashamed of displaying their country's flag in principle, the reality is that it has become a weapon of the far right and I want to disassociate myself from that. There is also part of me that believes patriotism is often the alternative term used when nationalism is what people really mean - and I don't agree with exclusionist and isolationist policies. Look at how MAGA, for example, use the US flag. It makes me wholly uncomfortable.

Sorry I'm not your target demographic, op, but I think if you start a thread you need to be prepared to hear from those you're not aiming it at.

I’m Irish, living in the north of Ireland, and to me this flag is a symbol of sectarianism, oppression, colonialism and genocide 🤷‍♀️ unfortunately I'm forced to look at it every day

She was particularly interested in hearing from non white people. That directly translates to "you can't be British if you're black or brown " - she's just given you her unconscious opinion ! It's absurd.

But in a way, that's a you problem that you see it that way. Do you view the German flag and think "war, genocide, evil, concentration camps " ? Or is all this contempt for the British flag just because we allow people to bully/insult us because we're weak compared to the patriotism and pride of other nations ?

I do hate how people are allowed to say whatever they want about white people, or English people, or British people. We just have to take it and accept it.

I think this question about flags is mentally ill. This is the UK, the Union Jack is the national flag. It’s good to be proud of your country. Nation positivity is healthy.
