It’s not my fault I have to go and get water

Does anyone find this attitude odd

Dh off work and Dd wants him around a lot

He went to go and pay a bill this morning and forgot to get water and Vimto.
When he got home I asked about the drinks and he said he’d forgotten and would go and get them.
Dd started making a fuss saying she didn’t want him to go back out as he’d only just got in.
He said ‘It’s not my fault I have to go and get water’ to which Dd said to me ‘It’s your fault!’

I said ‘It’s nobody’s fault that we need water
and drinks for the house hold, just like when I have to go and get shopping (90% of the time it’s me)

Does anyone else find this an odd thing to say?

Well kids don't say the most sensible things and DD obviously wants to play with her Dad. That said unless you have no juice at all in I wouldn't go out for water I would use the tap.

gingercat02 · 16/08/2025 12:00

Unless you are somewhere the tap water is not drinkable, wait until someone needs to go to the shop. Neither bottled water or vimto are essential

We’re abroad, have to drink bottled water

Why have you started two threads on this?

We can only drink bottled water, it’s 30 odd degrees and no water or juices, it’s very needed 😬

And you are replying to both

How old is the child ? You sound a bit .. almost jealous that DD wants her Dad ?
why would you think your own child is odd ?

Posted twice by accident, easily done, have asked them to remove it. Don’t think I replied on both

She's not jealous. She's annoyed her husband is blaming her for the fact that he forgot the water. Age of child is irrelevant

Is it more an anxiety that something is going to happen to him has someone close to her died recently or is it more dad is always out and I want to spend time with him thing

Longoverduelibrarybook · 16/08/2025 12:08

Exactly this

So it was his fault he had to go back for water.

Why couldn't you go?

Why couldn't child go with him?

Not sure this is a big enough deal to be posting on MN.

viques · 16/08/2025 12:17

Do you think that if Vimto was being proposed as a new product today someone in the marketing team would pipe up and say

”Hey youse guys ( or however marketing people speak) , do you think we need to reverse ferret and double back on the naming strategy before we tie ourselves in to a product whose name is an anagram of vomit?”

Well I could, but also doing cleaning in the house and do practically all food shopping, it’s 5 minutes to just pop down the road, he had car keys in hand, I had pjs on, why can’t he get it??

Missing the point slightly, but if you live somehwere hot where the tap water is not potable, then surely you need a better systm than just you DH nipping to the local shop for a bottle or two?

No nothing like that, probably because he’s a work more, it’s just 5 mins down the road

Everyone just buys bottled water. Some people drink tap water, it tastes awful though and I don’t trust it’s clean enough
We normally have lots in, but it’s been extremely hot so went through it all yesterday

This seems like a complete non issue to me. I don't think that your husband was blaming you, he just meant 'it's not my fault I have to leave, because I need to get water'. Unless there is some backstory here (always possible!) then I think you are making a big deal out of nothing.

gamerchick · 16/08/2025 12:28

Why couldn't he have just taken kid with him?
