Dog people - how does the poo not disgust you?

I live in a dog dense urban environment. Every day I see some fancily clad person walking along with their luxe takeaway coffee and their pooch only for said hound to hunker down, quivering with the bodily effort, to bestow a big steaming pile of pick me up now onto the pavement.

I mean I know the answer is that increasingly often it clearly does disgust them and that's why they leave it for other people to step in.

But seriously - do you feel less disgusted about poo in general? Do you think your own dog's poo is better (just as one's own child's nappies are less terrible than those of a random)? Or do you sit in dread of the next time it comes up?

i have small dog for precisely this reason. her poops are lucky to be the size of my pinkie. I couldn't deal with steaming piles of shit mountins.

Purplecatshopaholic · 15/08/2025 13:06

I doubt it’s any dog parent’s favourite activity, but it’s part of the deal and they are worth it.

Idstillratherbepaddleboarding · 15/08/2025 13:07

You don’t mind your own dog’s poop, you just get used to it. I wouldn’t go round picking up other people’s (well other dogs, I certainly wouldn’t be picking people poop either!) as you don’t know what’s gone into it!

Indianajet · 15/08/2025 13:07

It doesn't worry me at all - and my labrador does very large poos! I make sure I carry plenty of extra strong poo bags.

saveforthat · 15/08/2025 13:07

It's fine as long as it's firm. When it's runny, not so good.

thetooththewholetooth · 15/08/2025 13:08

Have you ever changed a nappy?? That's much much worse.

doodleschnoodle · 15/08/2025 13:08

Idk it’s just poo innit. I poo, my dog poos, the King poos. Obviously I don’t enjoy picking it up but it takes like 3 seconds and that’s it. I don’t enjoy wiping my own arse either.

Worralorra · 15/08/2025 13:08

If you can’t handle (clearly with the protection of your poo bag) the poo, and dispose of it responsibly, you shouldn’t have a dog! It’s that simple…

ForeverPombear · 15/08/2025 13:08

I've got a large dog and picking his up doesn't bother me at all. I have picked other dogs poos up on walks after owners have left them there and it's made me gag.

The bag can't protect you from the smell, though. Nor the seeping, squishy intestine derived warmth...

I just see it as part of owning a dog. I hate seeing dog poo left on the ground for others to walk in. I have been known to pick up random dog poo in the park.

theyoungishman · 15/08/2025 13:09

I absolutely could never pick up a dog's poop. Disgusting. This is why I would never own a dog (and the fact I don't really like them much). But if dog owners decide to get a dog then it's part of the deal and they need to do it.
Much prefer cats

Standingtree · 15/08/2025 13:09

You love your dog so much and they look super cute when they crouch to poo.The poo is warm in winter, I don't mind picking it up I want the neighbours ro exxept my dog so try to be as respectful of where he poos and pees.

BruisedNeckMeat · 15/08/2025 13:09

It’s not great but it’s part of having a dog.

The ones that are still steaming when it’s cold are the worst.

Gnarab24 · 15/08/2025 13:09

It’s pretty gross but it’s just part of being a dog owner. I don’t want anyone to have to step in my dogs shit so I pick it up and bin it. The joy my dog brings to my life more than compensates for having to pick up his poo 3 times a day.

2dogsandabudgie · 15/08/2025 13:10

It's just being a responsible dog owner. I doubt it's any dog walkers favourite part of the walk. But I think it is different if it's your dog same as changing your baby's nappy.

HappiestSleeping · 15/08/2025 13:10

thetooththewholetooth · 15/08/2025 13:08

I was just about to say I'd much rather pick up a poo than change a nappy.

Also, feeding the dog a decent diet generally means well formed poo that isn't especially smelly, so it is not a big chore.

Don't get me wrong though, it isn't my favourite part of dog ownership.

Tutorpuzzle · 15/08/2025 13:10

“A pile of pick me up now” ….brilliant!🤣🤣

Maraudingmarauders · 15/08/2025 13:10

The only thing I don’t like is if you’re off on a long walk and they poo in the first 15minutes and there’s no bin for the next 90….
Carrying it around is not so fun. Especially on a warm day.

Gnarab24 · 15/08/2025 13:10

Funnily enough I find picking up cold poo (when I’m picking up the garden pops) more stomach churning than a ‘just laid’ poo.

Worralorra · 15/08/2025 13:11

Fragmentedbrain · 15/08/2025 13:09

Yeah, but that’s just the nature of poo. I really don’t like picking up cold poos, which I sometimes do if my own hound douse her business next to another’s!

Littleredgoat · 15/08/2025 13:12

Might as well say parents how do crusty, snotty noses, steamy full nappies and burped up vomit on your shoulder not disgust you?

ErlingHaalandsManBun · 15/08/2025 13:12

Its just poo.

Doesn't bother me in the slightest picking it up.

Have to admit its not much fun when they have had a sloppy one. Its practically impossible but you still have to attempt it. 😂

Second to that is trying to pick one up when its chucking it down and blowing a fucking hooley. You're trying not to get soaked, dog is pulling desperate to get back inside, your poo bag is wafting in the wind and keeps turning itself inside out. I mean, its a real test of patience and stamina. 😂

But dog poo, is poo. No more gross or anything than your own crap, or changing your babies shitty nappy.

amber763 · 15/08/2025 13:12

I don't mind my own dogs poos. They're never really runny and he's only small so no problem to pick up. Id not want to pick up another dogs poos though. Some of the ones left around where I live are massive 🤮

Oh I do hate cleaning his bum if he's not well and does a messy one that gets in his fur but I love him so you just have to!

RoseDog · 15/08/2025 13:12

Your own dogs poo is like your own child’s nappy, you just get on with it, I couldn’t pick up another dogs poo or change another child’s poo nappy 🤷🏼‍♀️.

cleaning the cat litter tray is worse than dog or child poo 🤢
