Dog people - how does the poo not disgust you?

I live in a dog dense urban environment. Every day I see some fancily clad person walking along with their luxe takeaway coffee and their pooch only for said hound to hunker down, quivering with the bodily effort, to bestow a big steaming pile of pick me up now onto the pavement.

I mean I know the answer is that increasingly often it clearly does disgust them and that's why they leave it for other people to step in.

But seriously - do you feel less disgusted about poo in general? Do you think your own dog's poo is better (just as one's own child's nappies are less terrible than those of a random)? Or do you sit in dread of the next time it comes up?

OP posts:

Well it's not pleasant, but you get used to it. Much as you get used to dirty nappies and dealing with your children's snotty noses and puke. If the upsides of having a dog didn't outweigh the unpleasantness of picking up poo, people wouldn't have dogs.

Just say you hate dogs and be done with it, OP, no need to cast aspersions on responsible dog owners to make yourself feel justified.

Exactly another dog hating thread.

Might as well say parents how do crusty, snotty noses, steamy full nappies and burped up vomit on your shoulder not disgust you?

Careful - people get very upset and angry if you make even the slightest comparison of children in the discussion of dogs 😂

all together now:

"Dogs are nottttttt Childrennnnnnn!!! Waaaaaahhhhh! I'm so upset and angry 😭"

Dog owners receive the upsides of keeping a dog as a pet, whilst the downsides of this hobby are inflicted on the rest of us🤬

Have you ever changed a nappy?? That's much much worse.

Dog poo is far worse than a nappy

Coconutter24 · 15/08/2025 14:17

This is why I will never have a dog. Dog poo stinks!! The thought of it makes me gag so I couldn’t do that everyday

TooManyFools · 15/08/2025 14:18

Nappies are worse. You’re in the middle of a meal, then you have to go find a loo with changing table. Used to have to do it on floors and all sorts!

Jellycatspyjamas · 15/08/2025 14:18

Picking up dog poo is probably the easiest part of owning a dog - it’s really not a chore. After dealing with the kids bodily functions for years, dog poo is easy peasy.

BauhausOfEliott · 15/08/2025 14:19

I'd rather pick up dog shit in a plastic bag and bin it than deal with a child's nappy any day of the week. Yeah, it's nobody's favourite thing about owning a dog, but I'd find human shit squashed all over a kid's arse much more disgusting.

Same with vomit. Dog puke = pretty easy to deal with. Child puke? Would rather cut off my own arms than have to deal with that.

blubberball · 15/08/2025 14:19

If you have animals or babies, you have to clean up their shit. It's just the way it is

BauhausOfEliott · 15/08/2025 14:19

Coconutter24 · 15/08/2025 14:16

LOL. It really isn't. Parents are just completely blind to how disgusting babies really are.

tinyspiny · 15/08/2025 14:22

Child poo is definitely worse than dog poo , even if it’s your own child / dog and I totally agree about child vomit being worse than dog vomit .Horse poo ( nice properly formed ones) are the nicest poos and horses also don’t vomit .

IceMaidenIceBear · 15/08/2025 14:23

Does this really warrant a thread?
I swear these people are conspiring to organise "Dog Hate Thread of the Day" and I really think MN needs to do something about it now.
A daily thread singling people out on grounds of race, religion, gender or disability would not be acceptable so how can all these anti-dog threads be allowed day after day?

Dog poo absolutely reeks. It’s ten times more potent and vile than baby poo which is mostly just milk. Not a comparison at all. Plus you can properly clean up a baby/child’s bum. A dog just walks around with a pooey bum hole.

Incorrect, dogs do not walk around with "pooey bum holes" unless there is a medical issue such as dihorreha.

When a dog defecates, the anal opening everts slightly; basically, the muscular ring pushes outward so the stool can pass cleanly. Once they’re done, the sphincter contracts and the tissue (with any residue traces) retracts back inside the body, sealing the opening.

Humans don’t have the same clean-snap closure and err...everting muscular ring around our errmm... hole, which is why we need to wipe.

Dogs’ anatomy is built to leave no residue behind.

PringlesTube · 15/08/2025 14:25

Really don’t see how your dogs poo is anywhere near comparable to your own baby’s.

PinkTonic · 15/08/2025 14:26

theyoungishman · 15/08/2025 13:09

I absolutely could never pick up a dog's poop. Disgusting. This is why I would never own a dog (and the fact I don't really like them much). But if dog owners decide to get a dog then it's part of the deal and they need to do it.
Much prefer cats

So you don’t have to pick up their shit, you just let them leave it in other people’s gardens.

I love my babies. So I will clean their poo.

I love my dog, so I will clean her poo.

Other people’s kids and other people’s dogs - 🤮🤮

IceMaidenIceBear · 15/08/2025 14:29

A lot of it is down to what the dog is fed on. If you feed good quality food then you get firmer poo which is easy to pick up. If you carry good strong poo bags it is not a problem.

I have giant breed dogs and about 90% - 95% of the time, they attend to their toilet needs at home. They prefer to go in private, they tell us wen they are done so we bag it straight away and bin it.

As people say about their kids, it can be a struggle to deal with poo (or vomit) from a child that is not your own but with your own it is not a problem. Same with dogs. I can bag up my own dogs poo but I would not like to clean up after somebody else's dog.

WiddlinDiddlin · 15/08/2025 14:29

Yup, my dogs poo, fine. Ditto, my dogs dribble, vom, etc.

Someone elses, a humans, a childs - nope, fuck no, ugh, I would rather die.

Indeed, so do I.

but just pointing out the inevitable wrath of frothing mouthed "DoGs ArE nOT cHiLDrEn" crew if you even dare suggest a comparison by pointing out that both dogs and children share similarities in that they are both living beings for which the accompanying adult is responsible for...

( I find that crew as equally tedious as you by the way)

Are we supposed to post photos on here like we do on the other anti-dog threads...? 🤔
