M&S quality so poor now

Mistyglade · 15/08/2025 00:28

Bought some plain multipack knickers that I’ve previously had and my fingers have gone straight through the fabric putting them on.

I don’t think it’s ever happened before even with old cheap ones. What the heck is going on with their quality control? Didn’t it used to be their USP?

OP posts:
Beammeupscotty2025 · 16/08/2025 07:14

It’s not just M&S. Cotton knickers feel like toilet roll held up with a thread now! I’ve had to change from my favourite ones and find others which aren’t as comfy but at least stay up and last 60 degree underwear washes.

OP began a post on the quality of their knickers. It’s not a deflection to say let’s just focus the conversation on the quality of the knickers.

Well if you’re policing the discussion so rigidly and only discussion of knickers is allowed, you’d better have words with any posters who talk about pastries, clothes, uncleaned loos and anything else. Otherwise the ‘not deflecting’ argument seems a bit weak.

StarDolphins · 16/08/2025 11:35

I agree op, especially knickers too. Also their food. I’ve noticed a massive increase in processed/additive in their food. Loads of Xanthan gum and olive oil being replaced with rapeseed oil. I compared some of their fries to the ingredients of Waitrose, Aunt Bessie’s and McCains and it M&S looked worse.

MotherJessAndKittens · 16/08/2025 11:38

a lot of the tee shirts are really thin and go baggy after 1 wash. Had better quality in street markets abroad. DM thinks same and she used to get most from there. I think the hacking affected them such a lot though sounds like their IT staff were not up to scratch for 2025.

I disagree. The attitude of M&S to women - real women - is quite frankly disgusting. I don’t want to come across men in changing rooms. Men have their own changing rooms for privacy, safety and dignity. Why can’t women? Do we not matter to them anymore? It seems to be taken for granted that women will shop in M&S anyway so they can turn their focus to the trans market, much in the same way that they seem to be taking for granted that we will buy our undies their so they can give us terrible quality and we won’t complain.

Glad to hear that so many women are taking their shopping elsewhere. Talking with your feet is the best means of protest.

But they’re not taking their shopping elsewhere. Profits continue to grow and M&S is increasingly popular with younger markets like genZ. It’s so popular where I work across several age groups.

I do think they need to watch quality though. I’ve had some knockers fray(after a long while but hey they’re M&S). Also a couple of pairs of highly popular trousers I’ve bought have shrunk. But then I’ve bought many other items that have been amazing quality for a good price. Don’t think they should be complacent re quality. Same as John Lewis need to watch their customer service. Both are popular for what they’re always been popular for.

Is that all you’ve got? Getting boring.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 16/08/2025 12:55

Re all this bollocks about changing rooms. In any M&S I’ve been to in a long time, they’re all single, lockable cubicles anyway. Why does it even matter who’s next door?

What do you think about the ACTUAL question? Quality of the piece of clothing?

Slightyamusedandsilly · 15/08/2025 13:56

The Sex and Gender board is where you should be having this discussion.

The OP was talking about the quality of underwear not the models.

Nope. It’s hard to discuss M&S these days without raising this topic. Also there is the fact that you are not the boss of these boards of course, sorry to break it to you.

It isn't hard at all.

Most of us don't live in that little bubble. There IS life outside of hate.

Well, I suppose if you go through life with your eyes closed and ignorant of the erosion of women’s rights then you wouldn’t see a problem. Crack on, hopefully you can hold up the M&S bottom line. They’re not in a good place following their cyber attack and need all the custom they can get.

DipsyDee · 16/08/2025 23:49

Their tights are even worse

Where's the best place to buy decent knickers from then?

I swear by Boody. The quality, fit and comfort are excellent.

M&S knickers are eroding women’s rights?

I’ve just spent some time on the phone to their customer services outlining every issue and point raised here after finally getting through on 0333 014 8555. Those is the ludicrously long email to complain about quality issues apparently Online.service@Bikergrancustomer-support.marksandspencer.com which unsurprisingly isn’t featured on their website
I asked him to pass on my concerns to senior management after a considered and recorded conversation, mainly me talking. Part of me doesn’t know why I’ve bothered but there we are.

Thankyou OP

landlordhell · 17/08/2025 07:56

Just in case you genuinely don’t understand her comment, she is taking about the changing rooms. I’m not saying I agree, given that they are individually locked rooms, but her point was reasonable.

Klp122 · 17/08/2025 18:14

I'm glad I'm not alone in thinking M&S quality has gone downhill. Their knickers, especially the cotton full high rise multi packs, are dreadful quality these days. They feel tight but baggy, and don't last long before they get holes or even more saggy.

Over recent years their once brilliant trousers and jeans have also become unreliable in sizing. Again, a strange fit - tight around the waist and hips, but loose/baggy in the crotch and legs.

A recent order of two cotton tops turned out to be extremely poor quality, in fact probably the worse quality I've ever had from M&S. Cheap and flimsy.

Still love the food though.

AmIHumanOrAmIAYeti · 17/08/2025 18:23

I wonder why they would sell women’s clothing that is “baggy” in the crotch area. 🤔
