M&S quality so poor now

Mistyglade · 15/08/2025 00:28

Bought some plain multipack knickers that I’ve previously had and my fingers have gone straight through the fabric putting them on.

I don’t think it’s ever happened before even with old cheap ones. What the heck is going on with their quality control? Didn’t it used to be their USP?

They sent my teen daughter into what was previously the men’s changing room with bras to try. I asked for the women’s changing area and was told it’s unisex now. When I complained a manager came out and basically tried to label me as the one with the problem.

Jesus Christ, what is this world coming to. Disgusting, shame on that manager!

glittereyelash · 15/08/2025 09:04

I've actually never liked m&s for either food or clothing. Never got the hype.

True comment.

Hardly.

What a lot of tripe.

Feel free to prove me wrong.

Others have posted detail in this thread (just in case your shock is naivety.)

The ultimate derailment. Get a grip.

As above, there are plenty of men “getting a grip” all over the ladies’ knickers in M+S thanks to their trans ideology. Perhaps you’re one of them……….

Mistyglade · 15/08/2025 10:11

Thanks for the helpful replies. I’ve noticed the gusset isn’t identifiable from the sides after washing so I’m fiddling about turning them round and round. In the 80s and 90s my hyper critical mother would only shop there because the quality and customer service was second to none. I can’t find a link or contact info to complain at all now, I’ve accumulated a slew of photographs showing towels, tights, knickers, a dress and a pair of socks all with pulls that tuned into holes after one wear. Never using them again.

Tu in sainsburys.
Wirapa on Amazon.

I used to buy m and s but stopped shopping there a long time ago due to issues raised above (men in the women’s change and fetish reviews online).

Horrific that the fetish reviews are still online, I complained to M&S about them a long time ago Hmm

Can someone copy the link to these reviews please.

Can’t go wrong with Sloggi. I’m not one for buying brands or overpaying but they just last forever. Great quality.
Or Amazon wirarpa brand. Or Costco.

I was going to comment that I always find Sloggi’s too tight and restrictive, but it has just occurred to me that I probably brought the wrong size 😬. As you were.

Sainsbury’s are good for knickers.

TheFunSponge · 15/08/2025 10:27

I've always bought underwear from Next but thought I'd try M&S. The elastic around the legs fell apart within the first week and there were holes on the sides. Never again!

Years ago I worked in a factory making jeans and trousers for Marks & Spencer. Our standards were high and quality was excellent. They dropped us as their supplier and took manufacturing abroad, our factory closed. I noticed their quality has declined, but they wanted cheaper suppliers, so this is the result.

I'm old enough to remember when M and S used the fact their suppliers were mainly British as a USP.

Standards started to drop soon after they changed that.

MrsWojadubakowski · 15/08/2025 10:31

I’ve had the same issue with M&S Flexifit knickers, they quite literally fall apart after a few washes. I’m so disappointed as it took me ages to find underwear I loved and now the quality is so bad I refuse to buy them.

I’ve recently bought some Amazon seamless boyshorts and they seem to be a good alternative.

I can see the reviews for the ones I bought, christ they’re terrible. 51% said they wouldn’t recommend.

Carole Hochman knickers are excellent and my daughter likes the ones from Morrisons , she swapped to them from Next .

Never had a problem with knickers there, including recently. I like the flexi fit.

I do notice that threads slagging off m and s crop up often, often unreasonably.

AmIHumanOrAmIAYeti · 15/08/2025 10:59

There have been various threads on here about the reviews over the years if you do a search. Unfortunately when they change styles the reviews go with them. Someone up thread did say it was still happening though so they may be able to share them.

I love the older Flexifit ones I still have, it’s just the new ones that are poor quality.

Oh so because I'm not obsessed with anti-trans rhetoric permeating EVERY damn thread, I'm trans?

So the ONLY 2 categories are cis women/anti trans individuals or trans women perverts?

I'd hate to exist in your myopic world.

AmIHumanOrAmIAYeti · 15/08/2025 08:49

Thanks for the reminder. There’s a niche set of (cross-dressing) men who like to wank into M+S frillies (in the now-unisex women’s changing room) then put them back on the shelf waiting for women to pick them up. They post about it online. 🤮

M+S apparently see no problem with that and refuse to have a women-only changing area. The men get one, of course.

So wholesome.

Totally agree with @Boredlass .

Save it for the Sex and Gender board.

Timeforabitofpeace · 15/08/2025 11:57

@MrsWojadubakowski Last Monty I bought some of those burgundy coloured ones. They’re a big grannyish, because they’re bigger, but great under summer dresses if you aren’t completely flat stomached! The quality was as usual.

Sloggis are great, but you have to remortgage your house to afford them. Sainsburys aren't bad, but their soft style fabric is too stretchy and then they fall down.

M&S clothing is designed by people who hate women. Never bought anything from them in donkeys years. They'll go under at some point. Even their food quality is declining.

TheTeasmaid · 15/08/2025 12:11

Mistyglade · 15/08/2025 00:40

Well if this is the quality they’re offering they can keep their new target market.

its most likely made in the same factories as other cheaper brands, as there was a thing a while back with aldi readymeals being sold in m & s

Lolopolo · 15/08/2025 12:19

M&S used to be the gold standard for decent underwear and basics. It’s now worse than supermarket brands and almost on a par with Primark.

Why they’ve chosen to devalue the brand by selling cheap tat is beyond me. I rarely buy anything there anymore and never underwear.

Cis is a slur.

Biological women. Biological men. As defined in law.

And I didn’t say anything about trans. I said there were men wanking into women’s knickers in M+S, which is made a lot easier by the fact that there is no women’s only changing in their stores (there is men only changing though). They aren’t necessarily trans, but they are men.

Seems appropriate to point that out on a thread specifically about women’s knickers, no?

It’s relevant for a discussion about M+S’ women’s knickers.
