Comment to air hostess

Just arrived on holiday and I need the wise opinions of the Mumsnet community to help me decide if I’m being super unreasonable or if I’m right to feel pissed off.

On the plane off on holiday with my DH and DD9. Half way into the journey and the air hostess (think blonde, slim, attractive) comes down the aisle selling scratch cards, Prize being another holiday. She gets to our row and DH asks for x5 tickets and cheekily says “if I win, do you come too?” to the lady selling. I’m mortified and give her an apologetic look. She gives me a somewhat sympathetic look and I’m just feeling like the biggest dickhead.

I can’t bring myself to speak to my DH out of disgust and he laughs it off and makes me feel like I’m creating a drama for no reason. Feel so upset that he would humiliate me in front of my face.

Honest opinions please. Should I have laughed along or would you be fuming? Thank you!

So much confusion between misogyny and sexism.

Bloody hell, you’ve set your bar low

Hahaha! Yes I think you're probably right!

I wonder if it's a generational thing. I grew up in the 1960s/70s and such banter was completely normal and accepted at that time. We girls/women just had to put up with all the nonsense from boys/men. Cat-calling, whistling, lewd comments, groping, grabbing, leering and other unwanted and unsolicited attention was commonplace experience for girls from the age of about 12 upwards.

So, for me, a bit of meaningless flirting with a flight attendant is like water off a duck's back, I barely register it.

I admire young women nowadays - they won't stand for any of the crap that my generation grew up to believe was normal.

Ah you were born 10/20 years too early 😆 myself and my friends grew up in the 80s/90s and we wouldnt think this was harmless or normal.

Oh no, I was born in the 70s and almost no girls or women thought it was harmless or normal, we all hated it but just had to put up with it as we were shouted down if we tried to say anything. My mother would have gone through my father like a dose of salts if he'd behaved like that - but he never even came close to such a thing. In fact, I remember him once saying he thought one of the girls from Charlies Angels was quite pretty and the reason I remember it is it was about the only time he ever commented on the way a woman looked - at least around us.

I wouldn’t be happy, let’s just put it that way. Sorry this happened OP, and I hope you manage to enjoy your holiday.

Air hostess?

What’s wrong with air hostess?

This is so nasty and unnecessary. For a start people fly budget for all sorts of reasons, not just cost - the times could be better or it could be their 10th holiday this year. Alternatively it could be their first in 10 years that they’ve worked incredibly hard for which has been tainted by this incident - hence OP being so upset. Either way - this sort of petty elitist dig is really unhelpful

Wasn't this meant as a joke though?

It just makes him look like such an old creepy loser from the 1980s

You have nothing to feel humiliated about op
