To not remind my husband it's my birthday?

DoneWithThisShizzle · 12/08/2025 23:21

That's it exactly. It's my birthday in approximately 24 hours and I think he has forgotten. Hasn't asked what I want or snuck anything into the house. I've answered the door to the postie for the past two weeks and taken in nothing that he hasn't opened and shown me.

So as not to dripfeed, it's his mum's birthday the day after, it's a big one, so he's been organising a party for that (not that I think it's a good excuse to forget mine).

Do I remind him? Or not?

Happy Birthday OP birthday twin! (And I think I read a comment about a triplet, can’t find it now but happy birthday to you too!)

It was me @StampOnTheGround ... Happy birthday to you and to @DoneWithThisShizzle

I've been bought coffee in bed, had breakfast made for me. Got a lovely bottle of wine and box of chocolates from DS... off out later for a haircut and then dinner later....

Hope you both have a lovely day today FlowersCake

Thank you! This is absolutely, 100% the situation. He's remembered now so has just got himself off the hook, but I will be ribbing him for having me concerned! The daft numpty!

Now you know he's remembered and you're going to be "ribbing him" for having you "concerned"?? Hardly his fault you were jumping to conclusions!

He really can't win, can he?!

Anyway, happy birthday.

EverythingElseIsTaken · 14/08/2025 09:23

Happy birthday @DoneWithThisShizzle (and her birthday twins). Hope you have a lovely day.

Have to admit, I’m very interested to see just when your DH remembered (or was reminded) and what he’s ended up doing for you …..

Headabovetheparapets · 14/08/2025 09:25

Happy Birthday @DoneWithThisShizzle @HelloCanYouHearMe & @StampOnTheGround hope you all have lovely days.
For what it’s worth this year despite DH & I discussing our anniversary in the run up to it, on the day it took MILs phone call at tea time to remind us it was actually the day!! & yes it was on the calendars we just hadn’t looked🤣
I would also have to ask DH when he remembered just out of nosiness 🤗🤗xxx

@mummybear35 Your kids sound great and I’m so sorry for your loss.

I lost my 22 year old son 3 years ago and on every Mother’s Day my 15 year old daughter gets me a little something from him too and it makes me cry every time

ThreePointOneFourOneFiveNine · 14/08/2025 09:43

Happy Birthday OP and the birthday triplets!!!

I think what this thread has really highlighted is that people struggle to understand that not everyone is like them. It’s lots of “well I’d have said something weeks ago so why haven’t you?”, or “I don’t bother with my birthday so why do you?”. A lot of people seem to be rather blinkered on the issue.

Personally I’d have planned my own birthday celebration weeks ahead and bought my own present, leaving DH to get me a card which he could never forget because I’ll have told him about my plans and what he’s bought me as a present (all money is shared). But that’s just me. I’m not great with surprises, and a birthday is an opportunity to get something nice for me that I actually want, but wouldn’t justify spending money on except as a birthday or Christmas present.

This thread has made me realise something though. I did think I wasn’t too bothered about birthdays as opposed to some people who want their partner to make a fuss of them and come up with a nice surprise (nothing wrong with that, just not what I want). However, we have both sets of parents living locally, along with my sister and her family, and a birthday is an opportunity to get everyone together for a BBQ. I just love having all the family together, so that’s my focus, I don’t really connect it to the importance of my birthday. However, if I didn’t have a big family to celebrate with locally, I might want more of a fuss from DH. Perhaps it’s easier to care less about birthdays when you are fortunate enough to be surrounded by a loving family, but not everyone has that.

I hope everyone has a lovely birthday.

UPDATE!!
Okay everyone! Our marriage is safe! He's remembered! 😁 He's just sent me a text to tell me to think about what I want to do tomorrow, so I'm guessing that at this point, he had forgotten and has just been reminded 😂

Now, does he have a card and gift or is he going to be running around like a blue arsed fly trying to find something? 🤔🤣🤣🤣

Yay! Happy birthday 🎂🥳

Even if it’s last minute I’m glad that, as I predicted, he did remember your birthday and that you did not indeed have to remind him. It’s amazing what men can achieve eh 😆

Hope you get a lovely card and gift and to can both enjoy your MILs party this weekend.

20 pages in and people are still unable to understand that reminding him doesn’t fix the damn problem!

It’s not a hard concept. I don’t know how people don’t understand this.

OP is hurt that he’s forgotten (if he has, in fact, forgotten). Even if she reminds him, he’s still forgotten. OP isn’t saying “I think he’s forgotten and I’m upset that I won’t get a card/flowers” - in which case, reminding him may help.

I think it’s deliberate ignorance /misunderstanding of the issue at this point.

Glad he did remember some way or other in the end. Alls well that ends well and all that.

Happy birthday 🎂 🥳 🎉 🎈 🎁 🎊 🎂

Cinaferna · 14/08/2025 09:51

I frequently forget our wedding anniversary. DH never does. I feel so shit about it when I do. I'd much rather he reminded me. It's not that I don't care - I adore the man - but it comes after a flurry of family birthdays at the busiest time of my work year when I am often away from home working 12 hour days.

OP, I'd go for a joky - with all this work you're putting into your mum's big party, you'd better not forget my birthday the day before! As PP have said, don't look for fights in an otherwise good marriage. It's not as if he would wilfully forget it to upset you. He just has the big party on his mind. Give him a nudge.

Christ alive leave the poor woman alone, he remembered anyway

I wouldn’t remind my husband about my birthday because
a) I would be embarrassed if he had remembered and by reminding I spoilt a surprise
b) I wouldn’t like the ‘Forced fun’ of reminding

with DH1 my birthday is the same day as his mums, so no forgetting possible
with DH2 I would see forgetting as a far bigger issue around his feelings for me. I wouldn’t sulk or be passive aggressive

However I share a birthday with Dolly Parton who DH2 loves

so if I did want to enact tragic birthday scorned victim I could loudly play ‘DIVORCE’ whilst blowing out the candle on my cupcake for one

You're twins with Dolly!!!! ❤️🎶👸

So you didn’t find his surprise and feared he’d forgotten? Slightly over dramatic, no?

I know! What a drama queen! 👑

Thank you for this thoughtful post 😊 We are all different, and this post really highlights that. We need to be so much kinder and considerate of each other. This planet is hard enough without posts about birthdays being so contentious.

Hello everyone and THANK YOU 😊 for your lovely birthday wishes 😘

I got a lie-in, a card, and a gift from my favorite natural skincare shop. We'll be getting out shortly to enjoy the day. I've planned a visit to my favorite open garden, where we can sit in the sun with lemon drizzle cake 🍰 and then a trip to either the sea or woodland, depending on just how hot this day turns! 🔥 Then a meal out with a chilled pint of good ale 👍

This has been an interesting thread and it's clear that we all have different feelings and approaches to celebrating our loved ones. We are unique and diverse beings and all as beautiful and valid as each other 😘

Some of you have shared your stories and they have hit me in the heart. I wish you all the love in world ❤️

I'll leave the thread open for the rest of the day for those who are invested and want to catch up.

Be good to each other 😊
