I go to groups for anxiety during my time going to groups I became what i thought was freinds with 2 other people who go to groups and we talked on fb. both admited that they saved all our chats which i didnt feel confortable with as i told them things in confidance private things and if i had known they were saving the chats i wouldnt have told them this personal stuff. just curious what other people think

Do most people delete their chats? My chats just stay on indefinitely

brunettemic · 06/08/2025 20:17

Perfectly normal to not delete chats yes.

GreyCarpet · 06/08/2025 20:18

I've never deleted a chat.

I would if someone had told me confidential stuff and they asked me to but, otherwise, no I wouldn't. And haven't.

Givenupshopping · 06/08/2025 20:20

Just ask them to delete it OP.

Pricelessadvice · 06/08/2025 20:20

What do you mean ‘save the chat’?
Do you mean on WhatsApp? I just leave the chat open incase we chat again. Do people delete them normally?

youalright · 06/08/2025 20:22

It depends what you mean by save if their screenshot or saving into a file weird if theor just not deleting it completely normal

ReapersSideKick · 06/08/2025 20:23

its on fb ive never known anybody to keep chats and refer back to them when we talk if i had known she was doing that i wouldnt have confided in her i can understand people not deleting things if theyre dealing with official things so they can keep track of whats been said but not anything personal

SwingTheMonkey · 06/08/2025 20:24

Totally depends on what you mean by saving the chat. I never delete chats. Just because, why would I? That’s not the same as purposely saving them. I’d consider screenshotting them odd, but not keeping them ‘active’ on my WhatsApp.

MissAmbrosia · 06/08/2025 20:25

I have chats with my dd and friends going back many years. I wouldn't think to delete them. If it was a short run thing - say to organise a birthday or something, I might delete afterwards

BusWankers · 06/08/2025 20:25

I never delete chats on text, Facebook, WhatsApp, Teams etc.

Don't delete emails either...

lechatnoir · 06/08/2025 20:26

I never delete anything. I can go back to emails and text conversations from 10+ years ago and I really do think I’m that unusual.
unless they are using the information inappropriately or you have genuine reason to mistrust, I really wouldn’t worry about it.

Yeah, sorry, I’m not with you there. I don’t delete stuff. Not because I want a record of it. Just because I don’t do it - it’s just never occurred to me. I’ve got loads of Facebook messenger chats open. It doesn’t mean anything.

ReapersSideKick · 06/08/2025 20:27

maybe im niave but when im done chatting on fb i delete it i dont see the point of keeping it it just seems strange to me when people dont do that like they want to keep chats so they can use something against you

OP posts:
Charabanc · 06/08/2025 20:28

I just chat. Never occurs to me to delete something.

That seems a bit paranoid. It means nothing other than that person doesn't bother to delete stuff. I find it a bit odd to delete things immediately, tbh.

ReapersSideKick · 06/08/2025 20:29

well like i said if i knew she wasnt deleting them i wouldnt have told her my business i just dont feel confortable knowing theyre on her computer for anybody to see

Mrsttcno1 · 06/08/2025 20:29

I’ve never deleted a single chat on Facebook, there’s no need to. I actually think it’s a bit odd to delete them to be honest, not to mention more hassle when you then have to search a person’s profile to send them another message.

Nothing is ever deleted. Never put anything in writing that you wouldn't want others to see.

ReapersSideKick · 06/08/2025 20:30

no its not paranoid i have trust issues ive been let down by people in the past

So don’t tell her stuff any more 🤷🏻‍♀️

It’s not weird or unusual though.

ladyofshertonabbas · 06/08/2025 20:30

But even if she did delete them, the info you told her is still in her head?

Being let down in the past doesn’t mean you are not being paranoid OP, I’m afraid you are here. It’s not the norm to delete Facebook chats, I don’t know anyone who does that, it certainly doesn’t mean they are building evidence against you.

FancyCatSlave · 06/08/2025 20:31

I have never deleted any fb chats, it’s quite unusual to do so @ReapersSideKick. I have some that go right back to when it started.

The only ones I sometimes delete are spam
and Facebook marketplace but friend's are not deleted. Same as texts and WhatsApp etc.

I think this is your anxiety spiraling here.

This is very unusual to be honest. I know my mum used to keep clearing her call log on phone to keep it tidy - it’s that level unusual

Don't put anything in writing if you don't want it to exist in writing. It's really not normal to delete chats. Most people don't do that.
